- marsrover21, on 10/11/2007, -3/+45Nice love letter to the greatest console there ever was.
- roosterjm2k2, on 10/11/2007, -7/+44Not to be a complete prick ... and I know this is comment abuse... but dang.
Its not "Nintendo NES". Its NES, or Nintendo Entertainment System. What you said in the title is essentially "Nintendo Nintendo Entertainment System"...
I'm being anal, i know...but for some reason that compelled me to comment. - racketboy, on 10/11/2007, -2/+29Or you just like to be nostalgic and talk about the old stuff.
Don't be such a downer, stealthgear - Radar3D, on 10/11/2007, -3/+29"And can't forget Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, B, A, Start!"
I use that to determine whether or not someone had friends/siblings growing up. You forgot "Select" before "Start." - VaporBro, on 10/26/2007, -2/+25jawright....
Rule One: Google.
Rule Two: Don't ask us where you can find full games.
Rule Three: If your friend sent you a game in excel format; punch him in the face. - Easty, on 10/11/2007, -3/+24Ahh, the good old Nintendo Nintendo Entertainment System.
- gonegoogling, on 10/11/2007, -6/+21Not even an honorable mention for bubbe bobble?
- LogicBomB, on 10/11/2007, -3/+18FF1 is still probably my favorite NES game. It just doesn't get old for me.
- Hockey37, on 10/11/2007, -3/+18Am I the only one who didn't like Zelda II?
- CheckPlease, on 10/11/2007, -1/+15Without Double Dragon, there would be no Battletoads!!
- AcePup, on 10/11/2007, -3/+17Arf Arf Arf. Where else do you get a dog that stick its finger in its mouth and laughs at your ass! :) And can't forget Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, B, A, Start!
- twertyto, on 10/11/2007, -1/+15Blaster Master and Bionic Commando FTW. Great game play and graphics and KICK ASS soundtrack.
- racketboy, on 10/11/2007, -2/+15I was trying to stick with games that were for the most part exclusives...
- dannyinsa, on 10/11/2007, -1/+14Yeah it was also a 16 bit console, fool. Read the article description.
- racketboy, on 10/11/2007, -0/+13Crystalis was great :)
I mentioned it in my Hidden Gems of the NES as well:
http://www.racketboy.com/retro/2007/03/best-undiscovered-nintendo-nes-games.html
But Mother was actually Earthbound's prequel and was Famicom only
Earthbound was on the SNES. - VaporBro, on 10/26/2007, -7/+17No River City Ransom? Aww...
- bidness, on 10/11/2007, -1/+11Good memories
here's my five favs:
River City Ransom
Bionic Commando
Zelda(s)
Dragon Warrior(s)
Guardian Legend
They are still fun after 15 years - Elranzer, on 10/11/2007, -7/+17Server seems to be suffering. For those getting a 404 error:

- MaynardJK, on 10/11/2007, -1/+10Kind of like your comment since it has been posted ten times in the thread already.
- Tourney3p0, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8You are wrong.
- m4szyman, on 10/11/2007, -4/+11Bionic Commando
- trer, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6Yes personally I loved Double Dragon 2 more than Double Dragon. I mean how could you make a Double Dragon with no co-op play! That was the NES version's flaw. Even the Sega Master System and the Atari 2600 version had co-op play.
- evilTak, on 10/11/2007, -3/+9Yeah, Bubble Bobble FTW!
- zangief, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6Perhaps one of the best gaming lists that I have seen assembled.
- milomilomilo, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Wow, it's been close to forever since I've heard someone mention crystalis.
Loved talking to the animals ;)
To tell the truth I just recently got the rom because I never completed it originally.
I would love to see that game redone. - seether166, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6Bubble Booble is listed as the last Honorable Mention. Did the author add that in response to your comment, I wonder?
- po43292, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Kid Niki was good, don't really remember Legend of Kage.
- wilford, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6never heard of it, and thus, it probably pretty obscure.
- perryjoyce, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6Zelda II, that damn sleeping princess and my inability to save her, is the reason I still play games to this day.
I bought it from the VC on Monday. Within five minutes I went from unbridled joy, humming along merrily to the overworld music, to wanting to 'voluntarily' accidentally throw the Wiimote through the TV.
Someday... - YouRookies, on 10/11/2007, -2/+6Yo! Noid
- TheTap, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4I loved my NES, like most of the other fans here. I was surprised that Crystalis wasn't on there. I loved that game.
But my main comment here is that the size of those games blows me away.
I have these games on my PC with an emulator -
Zelda - 512k
Crystalis - 384k
SM3 - 384k
In an age where games come on 2 CD's cause they won't fit on one, having such great games stored on 1/2mb is hard to believe.
Those guys were some great writers.
Am I the only one who hand wrote maps of all the underworld labyrinth's?
Man, I HATED those blue Darknutz. - BigDane, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4NO RBI BASEBALL? INCONCEIVABLE!
- yohnstoppable, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Heh, I feel the opposite. I seem to be the only one who actually LIKED Zelda 2. I wouldn't put it on my list of top games, but it was enjoyable. Well, it was enjoyable in the 'throw the remote at the tv' kind of way. The trek to the final castle is almost up there in difficulty with Dragon Warrior 2's trek through the cave of Rhone(shudder).
- chongli, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4The path to the great palace is pretty easy if you exploit a certain bug by getting a random encounter to hit you at the exact moment you enter one of the special tiles on the path, allowing you to skip those hard areas altogether.
- cwilli14, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Anyone remember Maniac Mansion? A Boy and his Blob?
ringing the door bell and bookin like hell, among many other things to do in the game made Maniac Mansion one of my favs :) - CraigJ, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5Metroid’s non-linear world design instantly set itself apart from other games of the same era. Instead of a relentless progression forward to an arbitrary “end”, backtracking to previous areas was encouraged, and even required for advancement. Atari Adventure has these elements too, a long time before NES...
- Natasevoli, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4http://nessparta.ytmnd.com
- harvinator24, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Burger time for the nes was awesome. much better then the versions before and after it.
- HowitZer25, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4"Now you're playing with power."
- kuyman, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Zelda II wasn't everyone's cup of tea. It featured many more RPG elements than the original Zelda and was just a whole lot harder, all in all.
- beingcpm, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3pretty obvious list, still good though!
- flair1, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Here are my favorite NES games.
Mike Tyson Punch Out
RC Pro Am
Super Tecmo Bowl
Zelda I - Topher06, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4Pitfall 2 for the Atari had similar elements, I thought it was way ahead of its time, you could scroll DOWN and UP not just left and right, mind blowing!
- wiggles, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5"And can't forget Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, B, A, Start!"
I prefer 007-373-5963 myself. - staticneuron, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Am I the only one who has played/enjoyed Codename: Viper?
- Tanath, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Check out the Undiscovered NES Games link:
http://www.racketboy.com/retro/2007/03/best-undiscovered-nintendo-nes-games.html
Has more good games.
Edit:
Damn, just saw it was posted below as well. Sorry 'bout that. - TheMadRhino, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2remember that movie 'the wizard'? where that kid played rad racer with the power glove? AMAZING.
- Topher06, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3Donkey Kong was a port from the Atari days, and not really trendsetting for the 8-bit era.
- durzagott, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3My personal favourite was Romance of the Three Kingdoms. Totally opened my eyes to strategy games.
