French WoW Player Reaches Level 70 In 28 Hours
pro-g.co.uk — Gullerbone, a 24-year-old French WoW player, reached level 70 at 4:04 am (CET) on January 17, 2007. He is believed to be the world's first. The Burning Crusade, the expansion to World of Warcraft, the most popular MMO on earth with eight million subscribers, went on sale in the UK at midnight (GMT) on Monday 15 January.

Wasnt the game released just a couple days ago???
Yes.....yes, 28 hours of gameplay in a couple days does constitute having no life. - gxcdesign, on 10/12/2007, -39/+19a Terrible waste of life, but he's French so go figure
- cmw72, on 10/12/2007, -23/+85Grats!
Kinda misleading though ... makes it sound as if he gained 70 levels in 28 hours. I'm not a WoW player, but I imagine blizzard raised the level cap to 70 and this guy was already at the previous level cap. - andyrobo60, on 10/12/2007, -14/+4hacker??
- DirtyWorker, on 10/12/2007, -17/+428 hours + 40 players = 1120 hours / 24 hours per day = 46,6 days. They are right, no life. :P
- codelogic, on 10/12/2007, -4/+56He hit level 70 from level 60, not from level 1, which is still a big deal, I play WoW usually at night for a few hours, and at level 49, I rarely pass more than a level every few days. Of course, I also sleep and go to work.

I play exactly as you do, I've had the game since it released, made a couple chars to 20, but my highest is still only 43. It's going to take me another... 3 years to hit 70.
*sigh* ... at least I'm not bored with it yet. - Emanji, on 10/12/2007, -23/+3Perfect example of how easy WoW is. Took forever to get from 60-70 in EQ, takes a good week to get from 60-70 in EQ2.

The thing is... people can laugh at WoW for being easier than EQ but I think 8 million people agree that easier than EQ means more fun. - drmangrum, on 10/12/2007, -16/+4I would like to see him banned, or better yet, reduced back to level 1 and stripped of gear. What he did was no different than paying a chinese farmer to get his levels for him. He didn't do the work, his 40 guildmates did. Exploiting game mechanics is cheating.
- MeatBiProduct, on 10/12/2007, -11/+6All i have to say - is 2 years to make an expansion and someone maxes levels in this time?
Talk about a ***** heap.

- katsumi27, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0It really takes the fun out of the game doing that. Now, if he soloed to level 70, that would be impressive.
I agree, this guy has complete lack of a real life.
- homerj14, on 10/12/2007, -4/+17"The fact that a player has managed to reach level 70 so fast will not please developers Blizzard, who had hoped to see the Burning Crusade occupy fans for at least a year."
- warfang, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2For sure. I'm sure in the next patch they'll make it a lot harder to level 60-70.
- roxya, on 10/12/2007, -7/+4That's stupid, because there's much more content at lvl 70 than earlier levels. Not like he has done everything already ¬_¬
@warfang: they won't, because they tweaked xp required per level a lot in the beta - it is as intended. - sikosmurf, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3It's unlikely he actually experienced any content, just mindless killing of mobs. Not that the rest of the content would likely satisfy him for a full year, but there are always going to be exceptions to the predictions.
- jonahatan, on 10/12/2007, -7/+3the only thing he did was finishing of a lot of enemy's that had been nearly-killed by 40 of his guild members... it's a conspiracy!
- SillyRabbits, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10I really doubt blizzard cares. Come on the guy essentially had the entire guild help power leveling him. It's not like very many people can convince 40 other people to do that. It would be the same if somebody had their guild out grinding turn-ins for them to gain rep or exp. It's amazing how fast it was...but it doesn't really apply to the bulk of players....and the guy only hit 70, it's not like he got any instance gear during the process....he has plenty left to do.
- rshu4you, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I agree, Point to Point play is missing the Journey... The Graphics look pretty awesome to me.
- rickpelletier, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2If you read the article, he was supported by 40 other guildmates who basically let helped him kill mobs that he had tagged first. Color me unimpressed...
I really doubt that Blizzard had this tactic in mind when they planned how long The Burning Crusade expansion was supposed to occupy the players.

The reason why France lost so many battles is that in Europe, the looser gets the territories.
That must be the only explanation why France is the biggest country in Europe.

Interestingly, I think you are the only person that has touched on a good point here, and are getting negative diggs for it. I would never spend that length of time straight playing WoW, but I do play for a few hours each other day or so. However, that is his choice to make, and anybody who makes assumptions that because they wouldn't do it, that it is therefore bad or whatever, are quite frankly close-minded fools. For example, he could have been a guy who only plays a few hours a week, but decided that this was a challenge that he wanted to achieve. Whether this is the likely scenario or not is irrelevant, the fact is that it is a possiblity. Seriously, out of a regular human life, 24-28 hours is insignificant - I have spent that much time recovering from a night out, which is arguably more of a time waster!
- Afreyt, on 10/12/2007, -5/+7Who the ***** are you to tell them how to live theirs?
- Metlprocker, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3Did he go from level 1 to level 70 in 28 hours or level 60 to level 70 or 28 hours?

- Brad12088, on 10/12/2007, -0/+160-70.
1-70 in 28 Hours would be quite something though. - vawksel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+260 to 70.
The idea was, from 1 - 60 takes X time. The time from 60 to 70 was to take the same X time. The record previously I believe was 4 days 20 hours, held by Johona (sp).
So, to do X time previously in theory of 4 days 20 hours in only 28 hours, is impressive.

...no, it's impossible.
Can't be done without exploiting.. period. - Price, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Correction: Record for 1-60 is held by Brian Kopp - 4D 19H (!!!) - quite a gigantic difference there. (He advertises 5 days but thats just to say, like, "YOU could do it in 5 days" it sounds better) if you look at his site in detail you'll see. Still, the difference between horde and alliance comes in to play. (Brian is alliance, Joana/Mancow is horde)

- Afreyt, on 10/12/2007, -15/+9In my considered opinion:
Why does anyone care about this??? He spent 28 hours to make a computer change a couple of bits in a database. Should I go around telling everyone that I slew Onyxia with 39 other people? Of course not. Why? Because no one gives a damn. Being first to do it does not make it important, notable, or anything. The fact that someone has time to report on this momentous occurrence really just says how lucky we are not to have anything more important to concern ourselves with.- AchmedChan, on 10/12/2007, -9/+9Jealous that he made it on the front page of Digg and you haven't done ***** for your 15 minutes of eFame? Of course so!
- Afreyt, on 10/12/2007, -8/+1You wish. I'm not looking forward to the next 3 months of "WoW expansion firsts." Its like the stupid 2006 New Years retrospectives we had to endure about celebrity divorces. Things that don't matter bumping down things that do. Typical *****.
- vawksel, on 10/12/2007, -8/+3Yeah... Why does anyone care about making millions of dollars... its just changing a couple bits in a database too.
Sure my argument doesn't hold up that well,... so I'll stop talking now. - LordBug, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4"Things that don't matter bumping down things that do."
Welcome to Digg! - Afreyt, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Melting ice sheets, cities gonna be underwater, page three. French hardcore gamer makes level 70, page one.
Just sayin. :)

You taking the time to comment on this story is even more pathetic than the french player reaching lvl 70. Obviously if you don't care, then don't read or comment on this story. - Afreyt, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1So wait, is that more pathetic than you wasting your time telling me how I'm pathetic? Or do you just get off on that?

- cbags, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Seems pretty impressive if you ask me. Whats even more impressive is there were times where some servers didn't have anything to attack on them...kinda buggy
- Sun21, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2WOW... congrats on a well planned project and execution with your guild mates. Makes me want to start playing WOW after taking such a long break from FFXI... then again DOTA is fun... for now
- sillypickle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1w00t for DOTA! Only reason I know of to play WC3 instead of WoW.
- orlyfactor, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3So the dude spent 20 some odd hours having someone power level him. Newsworthy...
- vawksel, on 10/12/2007, -9/+1You can't do it, even if you wanted to, and tried your hardest. Seriously. You can't... Sure you don't "care", but regardless, YOU CANT DO IT. So STFU.

"You can't do it, even if you wanted to, and tried your hardest. Seriously."
Sure he can. *Anyone* can. All it takes is some very detailed planning and a lot of people to help powerlevel you. The guy from the article didn't do something that no one else can do. He was just the first to do it.
