- chaimpot0k, on 10/12/2007, -5/+216Shot by BBs. No one was hurt.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+199Yeah, apparently the shooter was driving a hot new tricycle.
- Harabeck, on 10/12/2007, -11/+111Damn, the Wii fans are getting out of hand.
- AkatsukiNoTobi, on 10/12/2007, -4/+101Everyone watch out for Jack Thompson! My lawsuit senses are tingling.....
- wingnut21, on 10/12/2007, -2/+96This is what happens when GTA isn't a launch title.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+83agreed, Digg story posters have all the class of tabloid journalists.
4 PEOPLE SHOT WAITING FOR PS3 !!!!!!!!!!!!..... (with harmless BB bullets from a toy gun, 1 person may suffer welts).
marked as inacurate. - DrakeGTA, on 10/12/2007, -1/+49See everyone gets so worried that these new gaming systems will keep kids indoors all the time, but it's nice to see they still settle their differences of opinion the way we used to when we were growing up; on the streets, with violence.
- Aceanuu, on 10/12/2007, -6/+50Aye, talk about gross misdirection of the headlines. Thats pretty pathetic, but not as completely dumbass as that paintballing driveby video that was up on digg a week or two ago.
- Leo21k, on 10/12/2007, -7/+44More like ps3 fans who want to scare people from waiting in line for the launch so they have a better chance of getting closer to the front later.
- kkaabboomm, on 10/12/2007, -5/+41my mom was there, driving by, talking to me on her cell phone about how these people were all lined up, waiting for a ps3, being interviewed, etc, when some random dudes drove by and started shooting BB's at them. Some people screamed, some yelled at the car, some ducked, my mom yelled and was like 'OH MY GOD'.
very interesting, normally lexington is pretty calm...i guess with the ps3 anything goes, eh? - Satanael, on 10/12/2007, -1/+28When it comes to airsoft guns, BB guns, etc. FPS = Feet Per Second. How fast the pellet goes with the pressure the gun exerts.
- CheatRZ, on 10/12/2007, -4/+28Videogames aren't dangerous.. Stupid people are.
Thankfully, they were only BBs, but just the thought of what it could have been is still disturbing. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -11/+35PS3 is gonna be the 21st century Neo Geo
- lsdeath, on 10/12/2007, -1/+20Come on we all know it was Bill Gates.
- JHawk24821, on 10/12/2007, -2/+20@ chedabob
Lay off the Counter-Strike man.... fps means "feet per second". - mdavis, on 10/12/2007, -4/+19This is the most exciting thing to happen in Kentucky since.....ever!
- prockcore, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16no, but real BBs are shot in Feet Per Second, dumbass.
- datastorageguy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13It's really the only way to get a camper...run in and spray and pray.
- Yarnage, on 10/12/2007, -7/+18Owned?
- CarbonX, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13"Lexington Police say they'll stay at the Best Buy to make sure people in line stay safe."
Instead of protecting the crowd, why not disperse them, and tell them to go home? - trunkster, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11Diffidently a scare tacit so the people would have to go to the hospital and leave the line.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+14What a sensationalist title....
since when did Fox News start posting on Digg? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Driving by, huh? I guess we've found the shooter.
- DelMonte, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11Oh that must have been so funny! Hundred of people traumatized for life, thinking they were gonna die, someone nearly lost an eye, but it was just a prank! It was "only" BB pellets after all! Since none died it's all just fine and funny!
Hahahaha...ha...ha! /SARCASM - bonked, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11Dammit kids, during this holiday season, have we not yet learned that the BB gun is not a harmless toy? You'll shoot your eye out, kid(s).
- Thorlord, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10ROFLOL.
i hope noone got too bruised.
the waterbalooning that happened to the gamecrazy near where i lived during the 360 launch was worse.. 360 gamers everywhere who heard about it seeked revenge...
and that revenge will be fulfilled.... with much.. much more water...
ironicly the people waiting in line arent PS fans, they are e-bayers...
just goes to show. the console is only wanted because of its hype. - t0ny, on 10/12/2007, -13/+21"Four people were hit by the BB pellets," They are different. Its one or the other.
And
"4 PEOPLE SHOT WAITING FOR PS3 !!!!!!!!!!!!..... (with harmless BB bullets from a toy gun, 1 person may suffer welts)." -kontact
BB or pellets are not always harmless it depends on the gun. My old bb gun is only like 200fps so unless it does not hit you in the eye then you should be ok. But my new pellet gun is around 1,000fps that can KILL you. The is the speed of some real guns. Not as strong since the pellet has less mass but still can go throw your eye and into your brain or into your chest.
Its even possible for slow bbs to go into your skin then a vain and then travel to your heart then you die.
So ya these people should be put in jail. - ComputerSherpa, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Buried for misleading headline. You don't say someone's been shot when they get hit by a BB, any more than you say they've been electrocuted when they rub their feet on carpet and then touch a doorknob. The mainstream media twists stories that way because they don't like video games; apparently we'll stoop to that just to get a higher digg count. Wonderful.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Thats the ps3's realistic gameplay. Bullets don't really work the way you want them too, and the gun isn't strong enough to rumble.
- CaptShmo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Probably some guys trying to disperse the line so they can steal a top spot. bastards.
- krinthekuz, on 09/16/2008, -0/+7i think BBs were an incredibly material fact to the story, and the submitter sounds like traditional media when he blows this story up without mentioning that.
digg really needs to add an "inaccurate heading" or something similar. it's still a decent story, and the story is not necessarily inaccurate, but if we wanted inflated stories, we'd go watch bill oreilly. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -7/+13I would have used paint balls then they would have been pwned.. The way it stands the non-reporters probably suffered concussions from the BBs.
Go ahead, digg me down fanboys :) - Matri, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Maybe it was Jack Thompson!
- strictnein, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Actually, I'd rather have a Neo-Geo and a full catalog of games, than a PS3.
- JuliusErving, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6jburnette, why don't you explain to us why you didn't mention in the title or description that the drive-by shooting involved BB guns and that no one was seriously injured? That's a really pathetic way to try and make it to the front page of digg.
- zengonzo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4 Don't be silly. It was Sony. They've clearly established that they hate their customers.
- JayMeaux, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5breaking news: a bestbuy employee got a profile of the shooter, apparently a distrought "Tickle Me Elmo" who was upset because the PS3 took away it's christmas steam
- FatherG, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Reading FTW.
“We’re going to shoot them,” Vice-President John said. “We’re going to kill anyone who buys a pair.”
Silence. “What?” Hack said.
The other John said, “Well, not everyone, obviously. We figure we only have to plug... what did we decide? Five?”
“Ten,” Vice-President John said. “To be safe.”
“Right. We take out ten customers, make it look like ghetto kids, and we’ve got street cred coming out our asses. I bet we shift our inventory within 24 hours.”
“I remember when you could always rely on those little street kids to pop a few people for the latest Nikes,” Vice-President John said. “Now people get mugged for Reeboks, for Adidas—for generics, for Christ’s sake.”
“The ghettos have no fashion sense any more,” the other John said. “I swear, they’ll wear anything.”
“It’s a disgrace. Anyway, Hack, I think you get the point. This is a groundbreaking campaign.”
“Talk about edgy,” the other John said. “This defines edgy.”
“Um...” Hack said. He swallowed. “Isn’t this kind of... illegal?”
“He wants to know if it’s illegal,” the John said, amused. “You’re a funny guy, Hack. Yes, it’s illegal, killing people without their consent, that’s very illegal.”
Vice-President John said, “But the question is: what does it cost us? Even if we get found out, we burn a few million on legal fees, we get fined a few million more... bottom-line, we’re still way out in front.” - misfit410, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3It was a mercy killing, natural selection...
if they are stupid enough to be 30th in line at a store that will be getting like 8-10 units..they are too stupid to let live. - monsterdog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I've been shot by an ***** using a CO2-powered BB gun, and the idea that "no-one was hurt" is likely off the mark. Not only do those pellets hurt like hell, especially at close range, they can do quite some damage -- even kill, when aimed at the right spot. In my case I ended up with a nice bloody wound despite a layer of clothing.
Having a drive-by NERF shooting would have been funny, though. - ComputerSherpa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Seconded!
- Asianwaste, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Luckily someone brought a medkit and all the victims were restored to a full life bar.
- BenSerwa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Way to suck, jburnette.
- EmileVictor, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6This reminds me of the video of the fat kid on a rock. :P
- Punch405, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3When I saw this, it had 360 diggs.
/ok, just had to say it. nevermind. - jknevitt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Dugg for the JG quote.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4im sure it has something to do with the local Wii Crips vs the PS3 bloods
- Aharoni, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I knew it was only a matter of time before the console war become literal.
- sparkmonkeyz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This is funny, because my friends and I were going to go crash the PS3 launch, going around with Wii shirts, and playing "Wii are the Champions" by Queen
