- diggfinity, on 10/12/2007, -1/+42Real men don't read instruction manuals. We break the item in question, crack it open and read the fine print on the motherboard.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+27That's almost as much proof as the instruction booklet which says "EFFECT PEDALS (coming soon)."
- ChronicColonic, on 10/12/2007, -2/+24...because there is no Skin Flute Hero game, in which I am certain you would excel.
- estvir, on 10/12/2007, -0/+21You're commenting on a story on Digg, you're not in any place to critique the downfall of civilisation.
FUN (The magical keyword here) can come from the most simple/stupid things and you don't have to be a stupid simpleton to have fun doing something which seems mindless and stupid.
Get off your high horse and stop being a pretentious, ignorant jerk. - tmurphy77, on 10/12/2007, -0/+19Clearly you have not played the game... Go ahead and do that. Then, if you still have to ask, yes we are that simple.

- diggfinity, on 10/12/2007, -4/+15/insert retort about being a real guitarist and still being able to appreciate the game and have fun with it
- djmik83, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11Because its fun. Theres nothing like playing Freebird or Jessica on expert setting and beating it. Theres nothing like going to a party and having GH tournaments - which we did this weekend and it was a ***** blast. Its just an all around fun game. What kind of explanation do you want?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Mine comes in later this week. Here's to skipping college.
- AnteChronos, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8@phynodedotnet
I have to admit, that's some fairly solid trolling, but you need to learn to mix it up instead of repeating the same basic concept over and over with different words if you ever want to join the big leagues. I'll give you a 6.5 / 10. - AnteChronos, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7@phynodedotnet
Have you actually *played* Guitar Hero? The game's fun. That's all there is to it. But I have no idea how to convey *why* it's fun to you. That sort of thing just isn't very quantifiable. But from your posts it looks like you're more concerned with ridiculing the game than having any sort of actuall discussion. - MindTrigger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5You guys are going to be sooo stoked. I had never played the earlier versions, but picked this up after seeing it in Best Buy on display. When I took it home and fired it up, I ended up playing for like 6 hours straight the first night. I damaged two of my fingertips to the point that they were completely numb for 3 days, and now today they still have a slight tingle to them. This game is highly addictive...what a blast.
Before all you jerkoffs start saying stuff like "play a real guitar", I do. No one thinks Guitar Hero is like playing a real guitar. I will say that it does wonders for the coordination and dexterity of your fret hand, and serves as a fun workout tool. This game doesn't teach you to play the guitar, but it will prepare your fingers for the stress and coordination required. - wageslaven, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8Equally important is that the control board is hardwired to the "rumoured" effects pedal -- and the board is silk-screened with "pedal".
Looks like a pedal might be coming! Sweet!
Oh, and it looks like the problem is two simple screws -- possibly the off-shore manufacturer let some product go down a manufacturing line without adjusting the peddle -- adjusting it was a part of the design, looks like whoever Red Octane contracted to manufacture buggered the final Quality Test. - kiheimac, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4My whammy action is now complete.
I was reluctant to try it at first but went ahead and now it works great. Saves me the time to get a replacement. - blahtastic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4It's new..remember when Wii was new? We'll get over it eventually, and you'll recover. Until then, why don't you go get some fresh air?
A real problem is the daily iPod stories. If you don't care about those your screwed, they have a new device/rumor/story of how some guy used it's battery to defibrillate his dying grandmother on a daily basis. But alas, such is digg. - scoot557, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3http://duggmirror.com/gaming_news/Fix_Your_Guitar_Hero_Controller_Yourself/
- jwcelement, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3This is not easy...I tried doing it and pieces of the wammy bar inside just fell out everywhere. It took me a while to get it back together...and the wammy bar still is not working great.
- floridiot2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3@phynodedotnet
Are you referring to BeatmaniaIIDX? http://www.makezine.com/blog/FYE0C9RZBXEPD7QZ9X.large.jpg
Also a great music game. - ElectricGrandpa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Something else that might interest you is that I was playing with the guitar's inputs in XNA and I found out that there's actually another motion/rotation sensor(one that's not used in the game AFAIK), that I haven't heard anything about. If you want more details I've posted about it on the XNA forum: http://creators.xna.com/forums/5317/ShowThread.aspx#5317
- SurrealDream, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@phynodedotnet
Cause this game makes you feel like a ***** GOD.
The first time you flip your guitar vertically, fall to your knees and nail the solo to "Smoke on the Water", you'll come up sweating. Everyone else will be laughing at how much of a plonker you look, but you'll be too busy feeling like a total rock King to give a damn.
And that's only the first song in the game. - endtime, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3L2ROCK
- SurrealDream, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm gonna sound like a total pillock, but can anyone tell me if there's a way to use my PS2 GH1 controller with 360's GH2?
I'd much rather buy GH2 for 360 (cause of downloadable tracks etc) but I'm hesitant to sell my PS2 GH1 cause I got it as a birthday gift (I know, I have THE BEST friends evah!)
If not, I guess the ONLY suitable solution is to learn to play both games simultaneously using my feet. - sinembarg0, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1No, what I meant by mapped to something wasn't necessarily that it is used in the game, but that it is usable at all without hardware modification, as in there is no possible way to use the 3rd axis of the accelerometer without hardware hacking, whereas you can use the 2nd axis on a computer with ease.
- estvir, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1What I find amazing is that he has the audacity to insult people who like Guitar Hero than he says he enjoys several Wii games ? Hypocritical whore.
Just stop talking, please, and just go play it and find out how awesome it is, or go play it and find out it's not one of your favourites but understand why so many people love it. - merreborn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Be careful doing this.
I took my PS2 guitar hero controller apart, 'cause it'd somehow gotten so much humidity inside, that it was shorting. Opening it up, and letting it air dry took care of that, but you've gotta be careful with how much you tighten everything back up afterward -- the strum bar got a lot stickier 'cause I'd over-tightened. To get the right action, you may find that you have to adjust screw tension a few times, til things are spaced just right. - ElectricGrandpa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It's not quite what you've said. Only one axis is used in game(for Star Power)... The other ones aren't used. The X axis of the right thumbstick is the whammy bar, the Y axis of the right thumbstick is the star-power axis. Both of the triggers return values that represent the X and Y values of the actual lengthwise rotation of the guitar(ie, forwards and back). That rotation isn't used anywhere in the game.
- diggfinity, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3^---self-owned
- baldr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Mine comes in today, and I am going insane waiting for the UPS truck.
- neoian, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I did it and it works. My screws weren't black though. They were silver.
- blahtastic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Did you take the two screws on the mechanism out or just loosen them? It just says to loosen them till you can move it, not take them out (which would explain crap falling out all over)...
I was about to do this but if stuff falls out...I don't quite trust my "tiny little piece placement memorization skills" enough to risk it... - sinembarg0, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@ElectricGrandpa
Yeah, it uses an accelerometer for the star power. I did a simple google and found out it is supposedly a 3-axis accelerometer, but that only two axes are actually mapped to anything (which would be both of the right analog stick axes). - ernasty10050, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@MindTrigger: That's the description I've been trying to come up with. People keep asking me, "Is it anything like playing a guitar?" And I could just stutter and say "Not really..."
But that makes sense. Time to go convince all my friends :) - anotherjpeg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0same here. and mine were covered with some glue. wasn't too bad removing some of it enough to loosen the screws.
- ILikeToLaugh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0w00t I dugg this story!
- shadowfire27, on 06/20/2009, -0/+0ok seriously, how did you fix your whammy? i decided to take my guitar apart because my brother "broke" it, and when i opened it the whammy bar fell out and now i have most of it together again, but i have no idea where two pieces go, well 3 sort of. theres a tiny spring and 2 black "handcuff" looking deals and i dont know where they go on the whammy bar. Help me please?
- UncleGamer696, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0You don't need to be a huge rock fan to enjoy the game, you just need to be a fan of Rythm games (DDR, Amplitude, Etc.)
- UncleGamer696, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1/Getting back on topic.
My friend got the game on release, we noticed that the whammy bar didn't work while playing it. This is seriously good news to hear that its an easy fix =) and I'll probably fix it tomorrow for 'em.
/insert rant on how the Game was better under Harmonix. - namliler, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I haven't played the game, but everyone I know who has played it LOVES IT. I think it might be a good game, but since I am not a huge rock fan, I don't know if the game would appeal to me. Do you have to be huge rock fan to enjoy the game?
- tmurphy77, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Ummm... Here's a clue: Play the game.
- ChronicColonic, on 10/12/2007, -9/+3/removing shoe, having it professionally cleaned, and returning it to the proper owner....in the same manner it was given.
- soccer215, on 10/12/2007, -7/+0In the last 72 hours theres been at least 5 articles on GH, is anybody else getting tired of it?

How to tell if your controller is defective
/a - solemnraven, on 10/12/2007, -11/+4/remove idiots from the interwebs.
hello?
hello?
nobody left, huh? - Oogler, on 10/12/2007, -10/+2Title is a bit of a misnomer. Should read... "X Plorer" Controller.
And, yes, yes, yes a pedal is nice but ***why*** isn't this controller wireless? Microsoft didn't release their proprietary scheme for the controllers, granted and boo hiss for that, but nothing stopped Activision/Red Octane from using the USB ports to create a wireless experience. Damn shame too. Arrrgggh. - RegalBegal, on 10/12/2007, -14/+1You are indeed a *****.
Maybe if you stopped snacking on your mother's rotten ***** for five minutes, you'd realize this is a fun game, musician or not. - phynodedotnet, on 10/12/2007, -15/+1The Wii controls got ridiculed mercilessly, but I still own several Wii games and enjoy playing them. But it never occurred to me to hook up my toddlers elmo-in-a-box to a PC with sequencing software and call it a game. More power to Red Octane for finding people like yuo.
- phynodedotnet, on 10/12/2007, -18/+2I mean why not "Piano Hero" which could have a shoebox-sized plastic toy piano with five keys? That'd be cool. As a preorder bonus they could give away oversized Elton John glasses. Somebody clue me in on the lasting appeal of this game. Please.
- hockey, on 10/12/2007, -22/+4/insert dumb comment about guitar hero being a game and criticize players for not playing "real" instruments.
- phynodedotnet, on 10/12/2007, -27/+1Give the popularity of GH, someone needs to explain to me why this has any more appeal than a child's toy guitar with the same brightly colored five button layout. Am I missing something or are we really this simple as a population?
