- pcgeek101, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Then don't play w/ 4x AA ... that taxes a vid card (espec 6600GT which I have) a lot depending on the game ... obviously CS 1.6 is going to run w/ 8x AA just fine, but modern games don't run so well with it. Just run at higher res like 1600x1200.

This is the most important point i've seen about piracy. (not that it's the first time i've seen it talked about, but i myself never have the guts to say it).
We all have every game, yet, we hardly play any of them. (except Online FPS's maybe).
When you buy something, you play it, either because you feel obligated to, or because it just feels right.
I have played videogames for over 20 years now, and i probably have 50,000 games. I just simply don't play them, because i'm overwhelmed, and other reasons which i haven't pinpointed. (i have been playing far cry instincts online, only because my friend gets me to).
It takes a man, to admit that he doesn't play the games he downloads. Most people will tell you that they play all day, when they probably spend more time downloading, and tweaking their XBMC. (teenagers probably do play a lot though, but i'm talking about people 20 and up, or maybe a little older in most cases).
It's the same with movies for the most part.

If you place a 360 disk in an xbox you get an error telling you to run it on an xbox360... so there is data being read.

A HDTV is not a accessory but it is needed if you want the full experience. I just don't get the logic in buying a console that is optimized for HDTV and not using it fully. There's no logic in buying a 360 if you don't have a HDTV. They have all the Branch Prediction Logic Unit removed and aren't able to do Out-of-Order Execution. These means that the developers have to be a lot more careful when programming multi-threaded games and also, it won't be able to run Mac OS X as these abilities (the removed ones) are pretty much core to the machine functioning as computer. So I don't reckon it will be able to run standard PPC code with a hell of a lot of frigging around with.

Its not about the pirated software, its about the ability to change, manipulate, mod and interact with communitys. X2 4200+, 2x512 OCZ Titanium, 7800 GT CO. Maybe if they took a little time on the games and had them fully take advantage of all 3 cores it "might" be a little different but i still say my rig runs laps around an xbox360.. and the 4x aa? gimme a break, my 2xQuincunx aa looks better than that. The only thing that seperates the 2 is the ability to work specificaly with one set of hardware. To design & optimize all of the games for parts that everyone has, unlike a wide variety with pc games. So yes, it takes more money to experience quality pc gaming with todays games, but id rather spend $1,000 on a pc then, half that on a bunk console that within a year will be way outdated on the pc market, and the ability to build your 360 "machine" will be possible. - rousehouse, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Totally fake. wake up guys

totally agree. I've actually thought about this actual thing but never written it. I download every game but get little enjoyment out of it. ive got over 73 games 9 legitimate and i only play 2 on a regular basis burnout revenge and as of right now spartan total warrior both fun till something better comes out or i get bored
i use it with xbmc and the streaming server on my mythtv box and my G5 and i use xbmc even though my original intentions were piracy but thats not what ive ended up using it for mainly now my piracy didnt hurt M$ cause i wouldn't have bought the thing in the 1st place
now many say thats no excuse and you should bla bla bla or if you can afford to buy a mac your not that poor ect.
well i bought my mac for school its more important than games
and im the person still using a old 20" crt cause i dont need something better till its deserving
long story short im probably getting a xbox360 but only if i can mod it chip or softmod
and with piracy i think the ps3 with blue ray wont be happening
now some might say im a bad example but i say im the kind of person who wouldnt buy the console unless i can get something out of it (the pirate AKA average north american)

I'll take that bet. They have said the same thing about every single console released in the last 10 years. Every one of them has been hacked. It's not necessarily the hardware that will be the problem getting around. All you have to do is find a loophole to get the system to run unsigned code. I wouldn't doubt that some game designers purposely put this stuff in their games for the hackers to find to drive up the sale of their games.
