- DigTheDoug, on 06/12/2008, -0/+67You mean I can't sell my year old game for full price? Surely you jest!
- videoclipsmiami, on 06/12/2008, -1/+49Wow! That's great news with gas at $4.00 + per gallon.
- pitchblack16, on 06/12/2008, -1/+43i mean its almost common sense that games drop in price, whos gonna pay 59.99 for a game thats a year old? virtually no one

- mizarone, on 06/13/2008, -1/+24It's no jest. And stop calling me Shirley.
- loganhid, on 06/12/2008, -1/+22so video games drop in price do they......heres me thinking this was still a theory
- beerncheese, on 06/13/2008, -0/+20My 401(k) is video games. (And some CDs.)

- xOKxWhy, on 06/13/2008, -2/+22Are you telling me my copy of Madden 05 isn't worth it's full $60? Surely you jest.
- Froderick, on 06/13/2008, -0/+17That's because the Wii has so much shovelware and generic crap, that even with the excellent games on it, the sheer number of bad ones drags the avergae down.
- loganhid, on 06/13/2008, -2/+19Are you saying that my copy of Shaq-Fu isn't worth it's full $60? Surely you jest.
- DeathJux, on 06/13/2008, -1/+18Perhaps in the USA, yes, but video game prices overseas are ridiculously retarded. Here in New Zealand, PS3/360 games run ~$100-$130 ($75 - $97 USD), with most at the ~$130 range. Nintendo DS games are $70-$90 as well. Games in London are similarly ridiculously priced.
Living overseas has opened my eyes to how bad other countries have it. Internet access here is stupidly expensive too ($50/month for 10 GB quota of bandwidth, at mediocre speeds).
Count your blessings. - macbookhair, on 06/13/2008, -1/+17Should change article to: Used video games are dropping in price (and who gives a *****)
- jimmick, on 06/13/2008, -0/+16Pfft, what about Australia.
Our dollar is worth what, 90% what yours is, and we still pay and extra 40 dollars for our games. - usuallyquietbob, on 06/13/2008, -3/+19SURELY YOU JEST, SIR!
- GhostyBoy, on 06/13/2008, -0/+16Video Games aren't an investment, but seriously, they have some of the best bang for your buck out there right now.
50 bucks for 50 hours of entertainment (For a good game), the only thing that beats that is an internet connection. (Best deal ever IMO) - TheWorm, on 06/13/2008, -1/+15Pedobear
- HCviolence, on 06/13/2008, -0/+14Buying a driving simulator will eventually cost less then the drive to the game store.

- dsmx, on 06/13/2008, -0/+10This is kind of worrying "The average Wii game had a review score of 45.7"
- shawnanigans, on 06/13/2008, -0/+1030 seconds of enjoyment and 59 minutes and 30 seconds of crying? Count me out.
- Ravatar, on 06/13/2008, -1/+9I don't really download games for the three reasons below:
1) MMORPGs aren't very downloadable, if playing on official servers.
2) Valid license needed for online play of most new games
3) If the game is worth a *****, I'll buy it. If not, why bother downloading it?
PC games are getting MUCH better about releasing trials or beta periods where you can get a feel for the game before blowing the cash on it.
I don't buy games very often, but that's solely due to the fact most games are terrible right now. I think the last one I purchased was CoD4 and I was happy to pay the $39.99 they wanted for it on Steam. The last one before that was maybe Orange Box, followed by WoW:BC. All pretty good values for their cost. - Froderick, on 06/13/2008, -0/+8Remember, the DS doesn't have any region coding what-so-ever. I've purchased several US DS games, without any problems what-so-ever. I live in Australia and I feel your pain. The other day at an EB Games, I saw some game marked with a "RELEASE SOON" sticker, and the price tag read at least $150.
This is why things like freeloaders, modchips, and the handhelds which don't check for game regions are the best thing for the money-conscientious gamer in our region. - jjgames, on 06/13/2008, -0/+7If you had bought Chrono Trigger when it came out you might actually be able to retire by now.
- kinseyincanada, on 06/13/2008, -0/+7thats debatable
- tschau, on 06/13/2008, -3/+9if it were virtually no one, they'd make virtually no money, and they'd stop making PC games. Which isn't happening. It's not that we're hypocrites, it's that you're wrong.
- Froderick, on 06/13/2008, -1/+7Bah... in Australia, games are as much as ever. This is especially lame since our dollar is so close to being equal to the United States dollar. The Australian Dollar is worth around 90-something US cents, yet for PAL games, the stores charge us at least $80 for brand new games. In America, it's half that or less. Considering how close our dollar is in terms of value, in Australia we are getting royally screwed over.
This is why I import as many of my games as possible now. Screw letting companies decide to charge us an exorbitant amount of money just because they can get away with it, due to region locking in consoles. - otto989, on 06/13/2008, -0/+6buried for telling me something i found out by walking into a gamestop
- erhanaltay, on 06/13/2008, -2/+7The only reason video game prices are so high in most places is because your stupid governments slap on HUGE VAT and other taxes!
In Turkey, a PS3 cost over $1000. Not because of Sony but because stupid Turkish government emulates stupid European tax laws.
Your 'free' health care isn't free -- it just costs doubling the price of everything else! - pacificislandr4, on 06/13/2008, -0/+5There are basically two schools of thought....
- gannondork, on 06/13/2008, -0/+5Publishers purposely release ***** games so that the AVGN never runs out of fresh material.
- iamcool, on 06/13/2008, -0/+5What I've experienced with video game resale.
New - 49.99
Used - 44.99 with no case or instructions
Trading in a game.
Offer - 7.00 sorry it's not a popular game.
Me - Why are you selling used copies of this game for 44.99?
This from a nation gaming store. - inactive, on 06/13/2008, -2/+7***** GAMESTOP
- Quicksilver4648, on 06/13/2008, -0/+5Just check out eBay. That shows your real re-sale value.
I have looking at picking up the Orange Box but for the 360 and I have noticed a trend. The Orange Box dropped to $30 after Christmas rather quickly but since then it has only dropped about $5 after two months or so. Classics like Unreal Tournament 2004 still go for $10-15 depending if it is new, used, standard, or collectors. - Falldog, on 06/13/2008, -0/+4Funny, my games remain at a constant $16 a month.
- KableKiB, on 06/13/2008, -0/+4Better than $20-30 at the movies (when it's all said and done with food and *****) for two hours of 'enjoyment'
- Melancholiatic, on 06/13/2008, -0/+4$80? Oh please tell me where.
In Australia, that's a good price.
It shouldn't be, but it is. - santaliqueur, on 06/13/2008, -0/+4FACT: Stating something everyone already knows is not insightful. Also, starting off with "FACT:", as if anyone is going to protest, is not interesting.
- iofthestorm, on 06/13/2008, -0/+4Yeah, really. I don't understand the point of this article. Another FACT: Due to inflation, the real price of everything that generally has a fixed nominal price is dropping...
- CrazedLeper, on 06/13/2008, -0/+4I bought Dynasty Warriors for the PS3 for $60 and didn't like it. I took it to Game Stop and asked how much they would sell it for used. They told me $54. I asked how much they would give me for it, they said $20. I told them to take a hike. I sold it on half.com for $40. I lost 1/3 overnight but I didn't get robbed by Game Stop. Up yours Game Stop.
- Asheis, on 06/13/2008, -0/+3easily "amused" I see?
- Cerebral, on 06/13/2008, -1/+4Yea... try telling that to Nintendo. Haven't you ever noticed how their games stay at $49.99 for at least a year and a half plus before they finally (if ever in some cases) drop in price.
- inactive, on 06/13/2008, -0/+3You're telling me that over time, an item that I have opened from the container and used repeatedly lowers in resale value? This is absurd!
Also, the title is a bit misleading. This really only applies to used games. - Spartyon, on 06/13/2008, -0/+3well thats debatable.
- Lixie, on 06/13/2008, -0/+3Some games go up in price as they age. A few genres age like fine wine especially JRPGs and certain puzzle games. Suikoden 2, Valkyrie Prolife (PS1), Intelligence Qube, MGS 3 Limited Edition, Panzer Dragoon Saga, and many others have gone up in price since they were released.
- BinaryFragger, on 06/13/2008, -0/+3I noticed that with some DS games.
In Canada, Mario Kart DS and New Super Mario Bros are still selling for $40 at most stores, despite being released in 2005 and 2006, respectively. Most 3rd-party titles drop to $20 or below by that time. - u8myfoood, on 06/13/2008, -1/+4Well, technically they do stop dropping at points, look at Starcraft, 10 years after the release, the battle chest still costs $20.00 retail. Given the prices drop .24% per day, also original retail for the battle chest was say $45.00, and had only been released for 5 years (even though it has been longer) $45.00 * .0024^1825, it would equate to pretty much $0.00.
Sorry... I'm taking a stat summer class, guess it's rubbing off... -
