http://192.168.1.1 - cmw72, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13Interesting ... It looks as though Digg moderators have deleted ebaum's comment completely.
Now that's something I haven't seen before. - curtosrules, on 10/12/2007, -3/+16This sucks, this happened close to my house
- LavaHot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12wow, I've never seen a comment deleted before, I kinda wish I knew what he said.
- answr42, on 10/12/2007, -9/+18This came as a response to the blantant refusal to disclose the location of the infamous XBOX 360 Mario game.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+14Hey My girl works at a Gamestop, this is terrible news. Just because somones a gamer doesnt mean they dont look good.

http://www.ksat.com/news/10873696/detail.html - arial, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8I heard about this last night on the news. I feel bad for the girls family. Reminds me of how dangerous San Antonio can really be for those of you who also live here. :(
For all of you making jokes of this, please roll over and die. - djSyndrome, on 10/12/2007, -1/+71. You're a douche.
2. It was a 'she', not a 'he'. RTFA.
3. You're a douche. - Chompy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Part of me suspects that Ebaumsworld is making comments like that because he actually hates Ebaumsworld (as anyone who knows about that site does) and wants to give them some negative publicity.
- worthawholebean, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I was a little confused for a second, and then I realized I had blocked ebaumsworld.
- TheTap, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10Ebaumsworld,
Why would you even think that there is a joke in there somewhere?
I have a son in college who has worked mall jobs to keep himself going and these stories make me cringe with fear.
This is a tragic story and your lighthearted comments show what an ass you are.
It's safe to say you don't have kids, and hopefully you never will. - Scorcho28, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Stores usually have cash in the registers to start the day to make change, it's usually a minimal amoutn, $100 or so, depending on the store.
- trot71, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6I would say it might fall under "Gaming News", which is the category it's under. And if you took any time to read the article (it's all of five sentences), you would see it was a "she" who was murdered. (Not that it's of much consequence to your point, but it just shows how little consideration you gave the post.)
- jlunski, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6HE?!? Did you even read the article? And yes people die every day true but this affects digg users because of the nature of the business. Were you born an insensitive jackass or do you work hard at it every day?
- pkakira88, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4um... the same reason why she was in there before the opening.
Its not like the employee's arnt doing anything before the store opens. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4He said something along the lines of "If you are going to murder someone why not rape them you wont get much more time for it"
- PSPon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Who is ebaumsworld? I know it's a ***** site but did I miss something?
- oldnavy1918, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4What did Eabom say???
- trot71, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4this is similar to a case near me in NJ (http://www.geocities.com/darcytristessa/NJHERALD.htm is the first article on a google search) - I can't believe it's been 4 years since it happened.
this is not funny stuff - it's horrible.
Fortunately, there were surveillance tapes at the store and they were able to find and prosecute the killers. I hope the same happens in Texas.
Always makes me think of Marge's speech in Fargo, "And for what? For a little bit of money. There's more to life than a little money, you know. Don't you know that? And here ya are, and it's a beautiful day. Well, I just don't understand it. " - danielrh9, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Answr42: Still not tasteful. However, funny.
- trot71, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4"itterate"?
Good God - there's a frickin' button labeled "Check Spelling" right next to the one that says "Submit Comment".
I suggest you use it, although it wouldn't correct your imaginative use of "an" before the noun "car" or "dieing" (which would have something to do with a machine shop, I suppose) instead of the more accepted "dying".
Lastly, when you iterate something, it suggests that you're doing it more than once, so "again" seems redundant. However, if you must iterate something again, they have a special word for it: reiterate. English is magic.
Go back to reading about cars. It's obvious that people are beyond your grasp. - bjkrautk, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I can't wait for the politicians to blame this on Doom, Mortal Kombat, and GTA.
(San Antonio even sounds like San Andreas...)
Regardless, my heart goes out to the Belken family. - jlunski, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Not to be insensitive but I wonder how she was killed, that can indicate the nature of the relationship of the victim and the assailant Also kind of strange that the doors were locked, means the killer wasn't in a real big hurry to get out of there if they locked up after themselves. Also points to the possibility of a fellow employee doing this if they had their own set of keys, perhaps an affair gone wrong between co-workers? Any which way it is sad... 24 and her whole life ahead of her.
- jonellison13, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Wait... so was the store open for four hours before someone finally came in? I'd love to take a crack at the dumb ***** that killed some young girl over a couple hundred bucks... this world we live in blows.
- empeethree, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3stores usually start out with a certain amount of money in the register. for things like making change.
- kadosh, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4The most effective way to deter people like Ebaumsworld from making outrageous and offensive comments is to refuse to acknowledge them as anything other than noise. A simple digg down will do. Deleting the comment is a little to much like babysitting and the uproar over it hijacked the article. If you have such delicate sensibilities that the slightest exposure to the profane will upset your whole day, it is probably not a great idea to read online forums written by anonymous people.
- danielrh9, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7Ebaum, that is by far the most disgusting and tasteless comment I've ever read on any forum on the internet in the decade I've spent on it. Normally, you'd get a "dumbass" or "insensitive *****" award. But you don't deserve anything other than a bitch slap.
- Ahnteis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Instead of feeding the troll, use the block feature.
- ShooterMcGavin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Sharkman
Every store has cash in it. How else would they make change for purchases? Obviously, they wouldn't have as much to start the day as they would say at the end of the day (if they hadn't made any cash drops to the bank during).
Its how business operates. - Centsless, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This is getting kind of common with gamestop/EB. I used to work at one and the safety of the employee is always on the line because of payroll restrictions. A majority of the managers have to open the store by them selves and sometimes close the stores by themselves as well. They have time delayed safes to protect the money which means if you get robbed, there will be a 15 minute wait till the door opens. I'd say about 1/3 of all stores have Closed circuit security cameras and they are not aimed at the customer, but at the cash registers to make sure employees aren't stealing. So I doubt if they even have this event on tape. It's insane,
- curtosrules, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Look *****, I live in san antonio and it was near my house. Why would someone even make a joke about that you idiots!!!
- VaporBro, on 10/26/2007, -6/+8ebaums...
If You were anywhere within 100 miles of me I would find you and beat you to a bloody pulp. You make me sick. NEVER have I EVER read such a comment. You need help, and my baseball bat has volunteered. - De3po, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4@Crass22- And you wonder why people blame video games for violence. No one deserves to die over something as trivial as a videogame.
- thetonyp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It helps nothing that every Gamestop I've been in has cameras in it, and every EB Games doesn't (to include the one I work in). This hits super close to home, I knew this person and I work at the store just on the other side of town, we have been pushing forever to at least get a camera in our store. I bet even now we aren't going to get one.
UPDATE: Well, Gamestop isn't COMPLETELY cheap, we are getting the sign on the front of our store changed to "Gamestop" I wonder how many more of us have to be killed/robbed before they put in some beepers at the door and perhaps an alarm system, I hear cameras are a little pricey... - roadtrippy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2He probably took the girl's keys. It's obvious she had a set if she was opening the store. Then the scum locked the doors so no one would be able to get in.
- answr42, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3In all seriousness though, my respect goes out to her family!
- kiss079, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Ya, I'm not seeing any of his comments either.
- BurntToast, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2YeahOK: Who said that the murderer wasn't to blame? GameStop is also to blame as well, not that having more then one employee would have prevented what had happened... but it could have caused the murderer/robber to think twice about doing what he did if it just wasn't one girl in the store. And yah, I'm from California. Don't be all jealous of our decent labor laws while you probably get screwed in whatever backwater state you live in and it's all okay. GameStop is COMPLETELY negligent in this matter... and their sudden granting of extra hours next week (to have stores double shift at opening and closing) after Amber's death is proof of that and I hope the family uses that little bit of information when they sue (which we all know that they will). Hell, they hardly granted extra hours for extra midnight sales or big release title days... and then all of a sudden they grant extra hours in the double digits RIGHT AFTER this happened? Please.
They could give a ***** about employee safety, anyone would half a brain who ever worked for the Company can see that. Before the merger GameStop would NEVER allow an employee to close the store by themselves... how quickly that has changed since they bought out EB and adopted most of EB's policies... who the hell bought out who again?
Lemme guess, you're a GameStop sympathizer thinking that defending the company that you work for will be noticed by some watchdog in Corporate and you will get promoted? Suck up. It's people like you that lets GameStop get away with negligent attitude towards their "committed and energetic" employees.
Thetonyp: Most stores don't even have cameras in the store... and even if they were working, they are SO low quality that you couldn't make out anyone in them anyways. - piper999, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1While I'm at it, why on EARTH is ' AscendoTuum' getting dugg up for his adolescent rape fantasy? The hypocrisy in this thread is stomach churning.
Boom - more block requests... - thetonyp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I completely agree that cameras are crap when present...but at least have something...
ANY sort of security device would have put those whole thing in a better situation than it is now... - LavaHot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1wow, if business was that slow, how much did he get away with, 20 bucks?
"Life sucks and then you die, then Death sucks too." - My History professor referring to early Mesopotamian pessimistic beliefs concerning their world view. - Machismo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This is a sad event. The area is not really that bad of a place. Such a sad event. I hope they find the bastard responsible for this.
- BurntToast, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Honestly, it's really sad how it takes an employee to be murdered before the corporate morons at GameStop realize that having employees opening and now closing the store by themselves is stupid and wrong.
Worst part about it? They gave all stores EXTRA hours for next week all of a sudden (a connection?), but made it seem like they were doing the stores a favor. This was AFTER the discovery of Amber's death.
How long will the extra hours last? Having the hours at the level they should be everyday and not having managers skip their breaks and lunches or open/close the store by themselves... it sounds too good to be true and it seems like GameStop finally gets it...
... I say... one month. Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if it was even earlier then that.
My condolences to Amber's family. However, I'd be extremely pissed that her death was caused by GameStop's negligence. -
