- invictus13, on 07/09/2009, -0/+34I'm torn.
I'm not some literary snob (by a long shot) but still realistically if Watchmen was important and it being made into a movie was risky, this is technically the ballsiest artistic interpretation ever. Mind you I understand movies as a medium generally garner more attention publicly (unless the game is GTA) but this is still ballsy. The other thing is that its quite obvious that they have taken serious artistic liberties i.e. dante did not carry a huge ***** scythe and kick demon ass in fact he cried and fainted the whole journey. But here is the part where I'm torn. It's a great premise for a game especially since I can't think of a game that has used hell as its primary backdrop and, well, why the hell not. This ***** on Dante's Inferno (one of the most important literary pieces in written history) yet it has solid grounds for a good game. - GhostInAShell, on 07/09/2009, -2/+33Hmm a literary-based game drawn on material from centuries ago and made by EA...
ABANDON ALL HOPE, YE WHO ENTER HERE - soupdawg30, on 07/08/2009, -0/+25Surprisingly it doesn't look bad.
- ban1d0, on 07/09/2009, -0/+22*facepalm*
Should we change the name in the poem as well?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inferno_(Dante) - sayuwantarevolu, on 07/09/2009, -3/+24But Dante was a pussy...
- TruEKuma, on 07/08/2009, -0/+20The divine comedy is one of the most interesting pieces of literary work ever. Hopefully this game can bring a little of that story to life and by the looks of it they are going in the right direction.
- ijake, on 07/09/2009, -1/+1137 dicks!?
- inactive, on 07/09/2009, -0/+9Lol, it's not like EA chose to call the guy Dante!
- SpeedSteamBoat, on 07/09/2009, -0/+8Oh, so it's like God of War... but not... right.
This might turn out okay, but, given EAs track record, I'm skeptical. - danielmatthews, on 07/09/2009, -0/+7no flame war intended, but I recommend googling "dante's inferno" before you post next time...
- Zpanzer, on 07/09/2009, -0/+6No... No you can't
- commershy, on 07/08/2009, -0/+6Reminds me of... Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver.
Anyone remember that?
Sounds like the same guy narrating it too. - Falcker, on 07/09/2009, -0/+6Diablo?
- nismerf, on 07/09/2009, -2/+8It looks very comedic.
/s - spidoman, on 07/09/2009, -0/+6This may replace Hello Kitty Island Adventure as my favorite game ever.
- ACiDGRiM, on 07/09/2009, -3/+8Do we get to see Muhammad in hell?
- NecroSexy, on 07/09/2009, -0/+5Nonne quicquam sanctum est?
- YellowSnowDemon, on 07/09/2009, -0/+5Want games with hell as a setting? Check out Doom and Painkiller. and in Ninja Gaiden 2, you get to go to hell.
I'm sure there are a few others I'm missing, too.
But I agree with you about the game. - Mono1ith, on 07/09/2009, -0/+5Shadow groping ftw!
- Arseny89, on 07/09/2009, -0/+5This looks pretty awesome, in that mindless stab-everything-you-see-sort-of-way.
I just hope Purgatory and Paradise don't get made into sequels... They would make for some pretty boring games. - VyRuZ, on 07/09/2009, -1/+5Kids won't study this in school, so don't act like they ***** ruined the universe.
- motivatedguy, on 07/09/2009, -0/+4That game ***** ruled
- inactive, on 07/09/2009, -0/+4Hopefully the levels are based around the hell Dante described and aren't just generic Doom-esque designs.
- woboz, on 07/09/2009, -0/+4in a row?
- jsnchmpn, on 07/09/2009, -0/+4The game looks okay, but it's pretty pathetic that we live in a world where you have to watch a 30 second commercial in order to watch a 2 minute commercial.
- JustinHopewell, on 07/10/2009, -0/+4I think you totally missed the pun, spidoman.
- SmartedPanda, on 07/09/2009, -5/+9Devil May Cry...Dante.....Dante the 9 levels of Hell....Dante.....Check...

- YellowSnowDemon, on 07/09/2009, -0/+3From the developers of Dead Space, too. This game has potential.
- Saiyanz, on 07/09/2009, -0/+3that wasn't a dude?
- brycesch, on 07/09/2009, -5/+8they have taken the divine pilgrim and made him a divine soldier and completely destroyed the work of dante. why not just be a diablo ripoff rather than destroying a work of art?
- pellejo, on 07/09/2009, -0/+3not so fast, it doesnt look as good as GOW3
- Machismo, on 07/09/2009, -0/+3This looks pretty good. I like the inspiration. The Divine Comedy was one of the most difficult but enjoyable reads of my youth.
Hopefully, it won't have you kill Satan and destroy hell or take over the rule of Hell as yourself ala God of War. Hopefully instead it would be truer to the mythology of Dante and the Theology of Catholicism. Its more interesting that way, anyway. - rmathieson, on 07/09/2009, -0/+3Nobody making PC games anymore?
- Korberos, on 07/09/2009, -0/+3Devil May Cry's "Dante" was named after the character from the poem this game is based on.... not the other way around...
- Druid72, on 07/09/2009, -0/+2Better than a point and click adventure. Wait a second, a point and click adventure based on Dante's Inferno? I would buy.
- Halsfield, on 07/10/2009, -0/+2I'm more than a little surprised at people that are getting upset because this is based on an important piece of literature. As someone above said no one is going to be studying this for school or trying to get anything intelligent out of it. How many times have they used the bible and its characters as a base for a game and bastardized it in every way possible to make angel and demon characters? Get over it, this is just a game and has been done 100x before under different names.
- Korberos, on 07/09/2009, -0/+2Oh god please tell me you're a troll...
- soupdawg30, on 07/10/2009, -0/+2PS3, 360, PC
- rabidbob, on 07/09/2009, -0/+2Don't ever go to Thailand, you'd end up very confused.
- bobthegreat1224, on 07/09/2009, -0/+2The Divine Comedy is in no way a religious text, but is instead an imaginative work of fiction based on prevailing religious philosophies, and it was revisionist even at that. You don't have to treat the source material with any reverence save for the fact that the work has aged the better part of a millennium.
I can understand wanting to maintain some degree of faithfulness to the source material, but look at God of War (which this game so obviously mimics). It's definitely got a Greek mythology pedigree, but the things that make it such a superb a video game are the creators' imaginative addenda or revisions (e.g., the Colossus, deaths of certain pivotal characters). I expect the same from Dante's Inferno. - brownsound00, on 07/09/2009, -0/+2I don't know how this can be connected to the poem. My recolection of Dante's epic is just that it was a story about a poet guided through hell, and it established our modern view on hell.
Apart from the whole hell thing, i feel like the game might be just using that as a platform to promote the game. I mean, it can dwell in all these things about hell (just like any other game), but since it's connected to Dante, it's a bigger deal now.
Don't get me wrong, I don't really care about that, as long as the game is good, that's fine with me. and from that trailer, it looks pretty good! - themastersb, on 07/09/2009, -0/+2PC*
- bmcnally, on 07/09/2009, -0/+2It had me going until the last couple of lines. Then I had no idea where they were going with the story and I think that it will be one of those things that ends up really bugging me - better to have no story than some screwed up one..
At the start, I just thought that it was Dante fighting down to Hell for who-knows-what-reason. Stereotypical and safe. You don't have to ad lib that much.
But this? Virgil (I assume - I thought that was who it was at the beginning) wanting to throw down heaven? - TheMartinez, on 07/09/2009, -0/+2Was a badass game. Though I disagree on it sounding like the same narrator. Plus the biggest problem with that is... well... he's dead.
- StormTroopr, on 07/10/2009, -0/+2"Lasciate ogne speranza, voi ch'intrate"
I have a sign above the entrance to the IT dept. that says that. - slothboyck, on 07/09/2009, -0/+2It looks like it's basically a God of War clone, but I'm perfectly ok with that since I only own a 360. I would definitely buy a God of War game if it were available to me, so I think EA is making a smart move by having this be available on the 360. Anyone who wants in on that God of War action but can't have it can look right at this and fill in the blanks. As far as destroying a beautiful work of art, I'm just going in knowing that it's going to be atrocious, so that way I can't be let down or embarrassed for EA.
- inactive, on 07/09/2009, -0/+2It's a guy dude
- InYoLeftI, on 07/09/2009, -0/+2poem...
- soupdawg30, on 07/10/2009, -0/+1I doubt it will be as good as GOW3 but it still looks good.
