Could GTA IV Disappoint?
gamesradar.com — You've heard the hype. Grand Theft Auto IV is going to be amazing... monumental... revolutionary... life changing... world altering... universe shifting... the best game of the year, if not the best thing in the history of EVER. Or is it...?! Well, yes, probably. . .but. . .

- Topher06, on 04/12/2008, -70/+58I think from a graphics standpoint, it already dissapoints. Honestly, hexagon shaped heads is so last gen technology. I am hoping that its the gameplay and content that will make the game shine because its not its graphics quality that is impressing me.
- Zamfir, on 04/12/2008, -65/+12If it were not multi-platform and was designed exclusively for the PS3, GTA IV could have been so much more. I guess, we'll have to wait and see until GTA V is out.
- ferrariman60, on 04/12/2008, -16/+8You're an idiot. You realize they have to finalize an engine before they can build a game around it, right? GTA 4 is such a big game that the engine was most likely finished over 2 years ago. Hence the old looking graphics. PS3 or Xbox has nothing to do with it.
- imacbook, on 04/12/2008, -0/+10You are pretty dumb if you think that they finalize an engine before they build a game around it.
- dandonia, on 04/13/2008, -0/+2Zamfir didn't mention graphics and it seems obvious to me that if GTA had been an exclusive to either 360 or PS3 it would have been better. It is also fair to say that if it had been a PS3 exclusive they might have took advantage of the 50GB disks and they would probably have built some crazy "home" features aswell. The whole game would have been fully optimized for the PS3. Likewise if it were a 360 exclusive it would have been fully optimized. Is it such a stretch to think that developing a game for one platform produces better results than developing the game for multiplatforms. As for the graphics, while they aint the best graphics in a game ever, they are still great. Sure it's no Bioshock, MGS, Assasins Creed or GT but it's still much better than any other sandbox game on the consoles.
- YoctoYotta, on 04/12/2008, -0/+25Development cycle age has nothing to do with the graphic qualtiy. if Rockstar showed us anything with Table Tennis, it's that the RAGE engine can do nice character models. The issue with GTAIV is that Rockstar has made framerate consistancy their number one priority. They're making sacrifices in the model complexity so that they can send 15 cop cars your way and allow you to send a rocket into their midst without getting a slide show in return.
You may not think this, but it seems like a lot of people here are expecting Bioshock-detail in this GTA world that is exponentially grander in size, which is crazy.
- imacbook, on 04/12/2008, -0/+10You are pretty dumb if you think that they finalize an engine before they build a game around it.
- sitykat, on 04/12/2008, -3/+16hmmm, probably not man. If you hadn't noticed yet, games for the PS3 are not better looking than games designed for the 360. And i'm talking about first party games more than I am about multiplatform titles. I would say that they are on par or that the 360 has the edge. I'm not some biased fanboy either. I really do own both systems and I've noticed that in general games on the 360 look better if not the same as games on the PS3 with minor differences here or there.
- kansai22, on 04/12/2008, -22/+5Uncharted is the best game out graphic wise and its on the PS3 nothing on 360 even comes close. So what are you talking about
- dandonia, on 04/13/2008, -0/+1Bioshock and Uncharted are both great but MGS is only round the corner, GTP is pretty sweet - lets all just rejoice at how good games look these days. Prototype looks so good.
- Blandyman, on 04/13/2008, -0/+1Technical-side-wise, my money's on Bioshock. Artistic-wise? Well, still Bioshock. But I do think Uncharted is damn good.
- NYC10004, on 04/14/2008, -0/+0I really liked playing Uncharted, but Bioshock was better. Actually now that I think about it, Gears of War looked better too.
- ericrous, on 04/14/2008, -0/+1Bioshock called and told me to laugh at you.
- Hoogs, on 04/12/2008, -3/+18^^I played Uncharted at my friend's house and it looked no better than Gears of War. Granted, it did look great.
- kansai22, on 04/12/2008, -6/+1Gears of War looks good? Please find one review one that says gears of war or any 360 game looks better than Uncharted
- kansai22, on 04/12/2008, -3/+1http://www.gametrailers.com/player/28089.html#comm ...
- dandonia, on 04/13/2008, -0/+1Gears of War upon it's release was amazing but looking back it looks a little bland, still amazing but not quite as good as Uncharted. Uncharted made the mistake of choosing a weird style of graphics - like the explosions etc. Even with the weird look though it beats Gears for me. Bioshock is clearly better than both for graphics.
- rpgmaker, on 04/13/2008, -1/+1You're wrong, there's already a noticeable difference, you can tell. It isn't that much right now but it would be in a few more quarters.
- kansai22, on 04/12/2008, -22/+5Uncharted is the best game out graphic wise and its on the PS3 nothing on 360 even comes close. So what are you talking about
- lotsa1s, on 04/12/2008, -6/+0This is it. I highly doubt GTA will continue in its current form, as I cant really imagine how they could expand on the series will still keeping it original.
- dandonia, on 04/13/2008, -0/+1GTA will keep building the story's and with each new game comes new city's eventually they will have a full country but first they will build the city's in more detail. You will eventually be able to go in every door - each house will have an owner/family, each shop will be personalised. There are so many ways to keep GTA going and as long as Rockstar dont get lazy - I say bring it on.
- prophetpimp, on 04/13/2008, -0/+1***** to South east Asia and Chronicle the Yakuza, Triad and other Asian Gangs. Seriosuly. Asia as a whole continent with kind of a kill billish tupe of theme to GTA would be freaking awesome. Imagine jet setting between Bangkok, Tokyo, Hong Kong and Kuala Lumpur.
- NYC10004, on 04/14/2008, -0/+0prophetpimp... you know they're going to steal your idea now right?
- B1663r, on 04/12/2008, -10/+16You know its funny, the xbox exclusives have all these extra graphic effects that are missing from the cross platform games, but then the ps3 exclusives graphics are only ever as good as the cross platform games. Just contrast and compare Ninja Gaiden 2 vs DMC. Look at all those extra shaders that are available to developers on the xbox, that are noticeably and obviously missing from every cross platform game. Then at the same time, in Ratchet and Clank, and Uncharted, the graphics are only as good as you get from the cross platform games.
It is just a fact, accept it. By the spec's the xbox pushes twice as many polygons, and its shader is programmable. The PS3 is only capable of pushing half as many polygons, and it the developers are limited to the built in shaders and post effect filters. No game on either platform has been cpu bound, so the fact that the cpu on the ps3 is twice as fast as the xbox to TOTALLY irrelevant.
The only advantage the PS3 has is its slow blu-ray drive, which is going to increasingly require installs, and the only thing that is going to get you this generation is 3-4 hours of pre-rendered 1080p cutscenes. Something that gamers don't want anymore, as evidenced by the demise of the jrpg format.
Lol, better luck next gen.- kansai22, on 04/12/2008, -6/+5Uncharted which is the best game on graphics wise on console which is ps3 only. What on 360 looks as good as Uncharted?
- Iknockstuffdown, on 04/12/2008, -7/+8Gears of War for starters.
- B1663r, on 04/12/2008, -2/+5I am not going to argue the semantics of "best" with you. Uncharted had good graphics, and great presentation, there is no discounting them, but to call them "best" when they acheived those graphics at the expense of gameplay, is a little dishonest. By having a totally linear story the developers were able to limit the number of ploygons on the screen at any time. Still, the developers were limited to last gen techniques in their presentation, particle effects and built in shaders. There are no custom shaders or filters like there are in bio-shock. In Uncharted you get really simple built in shaders and particle effects, like the water dripping off of the guy. In Bio-shock you get a gun that shoots bee's, and the bees realisticalyl swarm around your target. You get realistic water falls, that ripple and flow and splash.
Until some game, any game on the PS3 has a a gun that shoots bees, we really can't make a fair comparison. Because until then, we won't know what the shader on the PS3 is capable of. Well I know, the PS3 is simply not capable of making guns that shoot bee's, because that effect was acheived with a custom shader, something that the PS3 simply does not support.
You are argue the semantics of the design from that point on all you want. It is a function of taste. But the 360 will continue to have the cutting edge graphics and the new and unique shader effects, and the PS3 will continue to have creative use of particle effects and built in shaders. The PS3 will never have the cutting edge shaders, because its hardware simply doesn't do that. - Blandyman, on 04/13/2008, -0/+1Bioshock does have its unique shaders, and personally, I think its a nicer game, but it is also just as linear as Uncharted.
However, I'm sure you understand that Naughty Dog used a similar technique to achieve Crash Bandicoot's amazing graphics (at the time.) They knew what the player would be able to see at all times from whatever angle to assure that they could add more polygons and the framerate would remain consistent.
It's in its own way cheating, because you cant compare apples to apples these two games. But again, the non-programmable shaders of the PS3 are a real shame. It keeps developers so locked in.
- kansai22, on 04/12/2008, -2/+2Can you find one review just one that says that a 360 game including Bioshock looks better than Uncharted.
- kansai22, on 04/12/2008, -1/+2http://www.gametrailers.com/player/28089.html#comm ...
- B1663r, on 04/13/2008, -0/+1Yeah, you spammed the thread with that video, but that is fairly standard stuff. To my experienced eye, most of the effects in Uncharted are animated billboards, actually, looking at that video again, most of the special effects are just animated billboards. The blood spray, explosions waterfalls, all just animated billboards. Very well done billboards, but billboards none the less.
Now look at this video. http://www.gametrailers.com/player/20066.html
Dynamic particle, shader, and post process effects everywhere on the screen ALL THE TIME. It is not a matter of the PS3 not taking advantage of that. The PS3 simply does not have the hard ware to do the dynamic blood spray and water(has nothing to do with CPU speed BTW). Watch more carefully. See how the blood spray and explosion effects in Uncharted are repeated all over the place? See how each and every one is unique on Bioshock?
Of particlar note, look at the blood spray effects on both games. The uncharted blood sprays are the same half dozen or so billboard animations, while each and every Bioshock blood spray is unique.
If you don't see that now, you are just being willfully ignorant.

- B1663r, on 04/13/2008, -3/+1Here is the gametrailers review of Lost Via Dominus, just to rub it in how standard and unrevolutionary the graphics in Uncharted are. They use a lot of the same effects that Uncharted uses, admitedly without the attention to detail.

Also, as a Lost fan, I thought Lost was a better game.
- kansai22, on 04/12/2008, -6/+5Uncharted which is the best game on graphics wise on console which is ps3 only. What on 360 looks as good as Uncharted?
- 15thPD, on 04/12/2008, -8/+9If you have the money, PC gaming blows all consoles away.
- B1663r, on 04/12/2008, -3/+5I have the money, and I have a brand new quad core computer, with a $200 video card, and 4gig of ram. Assasins Creed does not look as good or run as well on the PC as it does the xbox. It is my understanding I need to upgrade to a $400 dollar video card to get the same performance out of AC on my PC as I get on my xbox.
If you want to play "computer", strategy, or free games, the PC is where it is at. If you want to play any other type of game the consoles are where it is at.
I was confident at purchase, but am now a little afraid I may need to get a new video card at least when star craft ships. The sad reality of PC gaming is that if you want to play the high end games that are released this year, you need the high end computer that is released next year.- 15thPD, on 04/12/2008, -0/+1If you have the money SLI with 8800 GTXs is the way to go. I am going to buy a PS3 when GTA4 comes out (worth it just for GTA in my opinion), but PC gaming is where I spend most of my time.
- B1663r, on 04/13/2008, -0/+3As a practical matter, No. I'm not spending $800 dollars on video cards for pc games. That is a dumb idea.
- merper, on 04/13/2008, -0/+1Well, in that case, you don't have the money. Not trying to trash you here, but a $200 graphics card isn't that high-end(Unless you got one on a really great sale - hard to tell without specs). Yeah, dropping $350-500 on a video card makes the PC far more expensive than an Xbox or even a PS3, but the additional graphic quality, and additional gameplay features added to the PC version, give the better experience.
- B1663r, on 04/13/2008, -0/+2Merper, if you knew what you were talking about, you could probably deduce I was refering to an 8600gt or there abouts. Also, money has nothing to do with it, it is about cost vs benefit(and really, I considered but decided I would rather spend the ~$600 on something else). Additionally, it doesn't matter how much money you have, spending $800 to $1200 for a video rig that will be state of the art for about 6 months is foolish. especially when I know I can spend another $200 next year and get the same thing. This I know, because I have done it before, several times actually.
The simple fact of the matter is, the game in question GTAIV will not be available on PC this year, no matter how much you spend on your computer.
And with a heaping dose of head slap, you missed the point of my OP, which is that a $400 dollar console provides a better experience than a $1500 computer, for games. The exception to that is of course strategy and "computer" games.
Also, you were a dick, and you were trying to trash me, so ***** off. You are one of the people who engage in the dumb idea of buying a super high end $2k+ PCs to play video games. If it were your money you were spending rather than your mommy or daddys than you would feel differently about it.
By the way, I have more money, than you or your mom and dad. So suck on it.
Here enjoy some pics of my other toys. Wow, I need to update that with pics of my on my new Royal Enfield;)
http://picasaweb.google.com/gregalb - merper, on 04/13/2008, -1/+1Whoah, chill guy. Inferiority complex much?
We weren't talking about release dates or gaming power per unit price, just overall performance. For GTA, the PC versions have, in the past, been the best looking and that'll probably be the same here too. Yeah, buying a new $600 vid card to get that res isn't very cost effective, but there's no denying it will put out some purty pictures. If someone's got the cash to spend on that, they've got the right to set their own priorities. If you have more fun playing games on consoles, you do that. I prefer a mouse regardless of game type(and definitely for FPS). Plus, most of the console-first games have extra goodies(Bioware games, Assassin's Creed, GTA, of course) when they come out on PC so that's kinda sweet too. - 15thPD, on 04/13/2008, -1/+1The 8600GT is very far from high-end, and I wouldn't expect you to be able to run many new games on it. I purchased 2 8800GTXs when they first came out in 2006, and my rig can still handle all new games including Crysis on high settings. I initially paid around $2,500 for this PC, and if you think that's a lot of money for a rig that is still high-end 2 years later, you must be pretty poor.
- quadvods, on 04/12/2008, -1/+3apart from the lack of Xbox Live...
- CarzorStelatis, on 04/13/2008, -1/+1Yeah, not having to pay for online play and being able to CHOOSE what map to play in CoD 4 sucks so much!
- B1663r, on 04/12/2008, -3/+5I have the money, and I have a brand new quad core computer, with a $200 video card, and 4gig of ram. - rpgmaker, on 04/13/2008, -0/+1I don't know why you're being dugg down.
- Frazzlet, on 04/12/2008, -3/+87My opinion differs, I think the graphics considering its a fully open world city without loading are damn good. Some pics disappoint, others look immense.
We'll see. - deanypop, on 04/12/2008, -1/+36I love the fact that the graphics are not the focal point. With all the horsepower in the PS3/X360, I'm much happier seeing that devoted into a no-loadtimes huge worldspace, better AI functionality, and integrated great storytelling.
It's pretty rare that the looks of a game alone are enough to make it great... But for sure, you can have a great game with almost no need for extravagant graphics. Witness the popularity of Wii, DS, browser, and even cell phone gaming.- LordoftheFly, on 04/12/2008, -3/+5Right, because cell phone gaming is HOT.
- Narcowski, on 04/12/2008, -2/+4Tetris is one of the bestselling games of all time if I recall...
- LordoftheFly, on 04/12/2008, -3/+5Right, because cell phone gaming is HOT.
- ronaldmonster, on 04/12/2008, -2/+55Who the hell plays GTA for graphics?
- dandonia, on 04/13/2008, -3/+2Agreed, but it would be great if it had the best graphics of any game out.
- Gareth915, on 04/12/2008, -6/+3I seem to remember the lead artist saying something like:
"It's funny how the same people who say 'the graphics aren't the focal point' can become so immersed in the game for hours." - SmellyFingers, on 04/12/2008, -0/+6Why is Topher getting dugg up? The graphics are definitely better than the previous GTA by a long run and have we forgot no load times and a HUGE open-ended environment? Rockstar did the best they good do. I have a feeling Topher has either never played a GTA before or doesn't have a good grasp on technological limitations.
- theodenking, on 04/12/2008, -0/+7GTA graphics have always lagged behind the standard because of their huge amount of content, I for one never found it a problem in any of the previous games.
- dandonia, on 04/13/2008, -0/+1I thought Liberty City and Vicy City looked amazing for the time. I didn't see much improvement for San Andreas but the scope of things to do was much bigger. This GTA is gonna rock, Bioshock looked amazing but I will no doubt play GTA 10 times longer than I ever could Bioshock. Proof that graphics aint everything
- CDRaff, on 04/12/2008, -0/+2Please read the article.
- crashingechelon, on 04/13/2008, -0/+1Plus the graphical style fits the GTA universe, which is why i've never had an issue with it.
- stockjones, on 04/15/2008, -0/+1I was never the biggest fan of this game, but you know great graphics dont not always equate to great gameplay. Thats the problem with a majority of the games today. Many games today look pretty but they suck in the gameplay dept.
- Zamfir, on 04/12/2008, -65/+12If it were not multi-platform and was designed exclusively for the PS3, GTA IV could have been so much more. I guess, we'll have to wait and see until GTA V is out.
- lucidguru, on 04/12/2008, -36/+3Unless they plan on showing simulated sex i don't see it being controversial now either. Yes it could disappoint.
- hakz, on 04/12/2008, -23/+6It better be ***** monumental, I pre-ordered at full price £39.99. I never do that with games. I wait until its at max £30
- codyp, on 04/12/2008, -0/+2haha, I am not a gamer, I spend very little money on games, i mean very little. I preordered the deluxe package with all the fun stuff you could get for the game. 90 bucks all together. But so far everything sounds like it will be all worth it.
- Nobi-Wan, on 04/12/2008, -0/+4£39.99 is like $63 in USD which is the average price for games here. I don't mind spending that much on an anticipated title. Then again, I rarely buy a game at full price unless it IS an anticipated title and will be worth it. I'm really looking forward to the multiplayer on the 360. It's going to be awesome.
- fLUx1337, on 04/12/2008, -1/+2More like $78 USD.....yeh we get robbed...
I can't wait for GTA4, looks cool, but I never followed the hype of GoW, and I won't do here.... - kingofnexus, on 04/12/2008, -0/+3Lol your Dollar to the Pound ratio is way off. You can get over $2 to £1. That makes GTA IV over here in England worth over $80.
- krisscofield, on 04/12/2008, -0/+3£39.99 = $78.75
- Nobi-Wan, on 04/12/2008, -0/+5Oh, I plugged it in wrong. I chose Euro instead of pounds. LOL, yeah that sucks for the UK.
- fLUx1337, on 04/12/2008, -1/+2More like $78 USD.....yeh we get robbed...
- iDoraemon, on 04/12/2008, -19/+7Hmm...the last GTA game I played was the original. That's right, I mean part 1. Therefore, I don't think I'll be disappointed with part four.
/get off my lawn - JamesMorris, on 04/12/2008, -42/+33Blasphemy! No, this won't be no flop like Halo 3.
- B1663r, on 04/12/2008, -18/+11If by your definition of "flop" you include Halo 3, then I expect this game to be an even bigger flop.
- Hoogs, on 04/12/2008, -21/+15Halo 3 was not a flop.
- wafflesomd, on 04/12/2008, -18/+24It wasn't, but it still sucks.
- Iknockstuffdown, on 04/12/2008, -7/+5That's the power of good marketing, my friend.
- machocheese34, on 04/12/2008, -3/+9when did halo bashing become cool?
- Sairgem, on 04/13/2008, -3/+9The day it became popular. Anything popular gets bashed eventually. It'll happen to GTA4 after it's out a couple months, just wait.
- nobelief, on 04/13/2008, -1/+3No Sairgem. GTA4 isn't a new IP so it's safe.
- wafflesomd, on 04/12/2008, -18/+24It wasn't, but it still sucks.
- Nobi-Wan, on 04/12/2008, -16/+10If by "sucks" you mean it's still on the top five most played games then yes, it sucks. Halo 3 is one of my favorite games. It must be trendy among 12 year olds to hate Halo 3 or something. Halo 2 on the other hand, now that was a disappointment.
- LordoftheFly, on 04/12/2008, -5/+13Erm.. it's trendy among twelve year olds to /like/ Halo 3.
- Ajajadude, on 04/12/2008, -2/+4After the first Halo, it was at the point where it could sell record number of subsequent sequels on name recognition alone. You can't completely equate sales with how great a game is...especially when that game has had a predecessor with a lot of success.
- Nobi-Wan, on 04/12/2008, -1/+1Not after Halo 2. I couldn't stand that game in comparison to the first Halo.
- CarzorStelatis, on 04/13/2008, -0/+2"sucks" is a description of quality, not popularity. Therefore whether Halo 3 "sucks" or not has absolutely nothing to do with how many people are playing it online. Lots of people play Runescape for example.
- Sairgem, on 04/13/2008, -7/+3Funny how Halo 3 isn't even close to the definition of a "flop", and the tools who think it is downvote anyone who defends the game. Go back to playing CoD4 little kiddies.
- doshindude, on 04/13/2008, -2/+6you fail if you think halo 3 is better than CoD4.

i heard its almost 1:1 with the real NYC- CarzorStelatis, on 04/13/2008, -0/+3Tastes? Don't let the heat and smell fool you, your 360 is NOT edible :P

- Spuy767, on 04/12/2008, -2/+26It's pretty clear to me that this article was written to drive adertising hits, and we're just playing in their hands.
- MildApplause, on 04/12/2008, -16/+3No.
- Blackie24, on 04/12/2008, -10/+12As long as the GTA world continues to expand and story lines remain diverse, I don't see how GTA IV can disappoint
- snowrider221, on 04/12/2008, -0/+16The article did mention that this metropolis is indeed smaller than San Andreas.
- npsken, on 04/12/2008, -1/+38San Andreas was mostly countryside.
- trump48257, on 04/12/2008, -1/+9Yea. That is true. But honestly what would you rather have a smaller area with tons of detail & activity or miles and miles of boring countryside?
- MacSuxWindozSux, on 04/12/2008, -0/+13Sometimes I just like to drive around... and space is needed.
I run out of space in San Andreas, it's not that hard.- Ajajadude, on 04/12/2008, -0/+10The only problem with cruising in San Andreas were the assholes who randomly changed lanes right in front of you. And sometimes right into you.

- Kink, on 04/12/2008, -0/+3There's a lot more to explore vertically though, which I think more than makes up for it.
- RationalXubrnce, on 04/12/2008, -0/+4 NYC itself is smaller than most places but it somehow manages to be interesting.
- theodenking, on 04/12/2008, -0/+6While I agree with most of this analysis, I am a bit disappointed that we won't see some of the scale of San Andreas.
I for one /liked/ some of the "featureless" areas of SA, obviously you couldn't set a whole country there but being able to drive through the country-side really added something to the game and I don't see it being that difficult to return to it in GTA4.- gplpark92, on 04/12/2008, -0/+1it's gonna be ALMOST as big as the whole state, which is still pretty huge.
although los santos was really small, it wasn't miniscule, and the overall area was massive (in the whole state), so if the city is near that size, we're in for a hell of a ride

- FongoBongo, on 04/12/2008, -3/+23I thoroughly enjoyed all the other GTAs and I can hardly imagine GTA 4 being a let down. I hope this is a rhetorical question.
- Nobi-Wan, on 04/12/2008, -2/+5If you read the article, it's a "pro vs. con" of the game.
- CarzorStelatis, on 04/13/2008, -0/+2It isn't - it actually focuses on flaws, and then explains why (in the writer's opinion) those criticisms are unfounded. It doesn't actually go into a lot of detail about what's good about GTA IV, just explaining why the perceived flaws aren't actually important.
- FongoBongo, on 04/14/2008, -0/+1Yep, that was my perspective. looks like Nobi didn't read between the lines.

- ferrariman60, on 04/12/2008, -1/+28GTA 4 will not disappoint. The graphics aren't the sharpest, but this game will still get plenty of play from me.
- Chazzer3, on 04/12/2008, -0/+5I agree, although, I think when you're sitting at home playing it in HD, it will suddenly be so much better. Screenshots that we are shown focus too much on one little thing, but when you are floating, 3rd person behind yourself, it will be so good, just imagine, the first time you are let free on the city..... I cannot wait ;-)
- ferrariman60, on 04/12/2008, -0/+4True that. I'm salivating just thinking about GTA in HD.
- CarzorStelatis, on 04/13/2008, -0/+1Also, a 1280x720p (or whatever they are) screenshot looks artificially worse when zoomed in on a computer monitor than when viewed from a couple of feet away on a high-def TV.
- dmallymally, on 04/13/2008, -1/+1I mean they did have to make it so it could run on the 360.

- B1663r, on 04/12/2008, -0/+7The game has planes in it, just not flyable planes. I expect the planes will be horse armor.
- CarzorStelatis, on 04/13/2008, -0/+2I suspect it was more to do with politics. Given the amount of flak MS took for Flight Simulator after 9/11, I can only imagine how screeching the moral panic would be if GTA allowed people to fly planes into buildings in New York.
- InsaneMachine, on 04/12/2008, -1/+1That's half the fun. Nothing like ejecting at the last minute and then opening the parachute while your plane goes spiraling out of control and explodes.

- lotsa1s, on 04/12/2008, -4/+2The jet packs and tanks were some of the absolute worst implants into the GTA series to date. I'm slightly disapointed in the lack of fixed wing aircraft, but the gimmick modes of transportation were just terrible.

- mojorrison, on 04/12/2008, -1/+64Everyone is over-hyping everything these days. Trying to declare everything as the greatest thing in history. I have no doubt that this game will be fun and worth every penny. That's pretty much all that should matter.
- B1663r, on 04/12/2008, -5/+3Oh please, half the fun of the games now days is the hype.
- MaTT2011, on 04/12/2008, -0/+3Thank you; I am so sick of these casual gamers, people who hype games for anything other than gameplay, that masquerade as so called "hard-core" gamers...whatever THAT is...

- Homest4r, on 04/12/2008, -5/+7Mediocre list. GTA IV won't be perfect, but it will come close. It's only flaws will probably narrow down to an occasionally choppy framerate and some nitpicking with the auto targetting. Other than that, it looks fine.

- TokenBlack, on 04/12/2008, -7/+5Same here! I just sold my Wii and some games for $450, and I'm going to wait for the MGS4 Bundle in June and buy GTA. I can wait an extra month or so for the game, it's not a big deal.

- Po0py, on 04/12/2008, -5/+18Thats a poor article, imho. He says the driving sucked in previous gta's. The driving was one of the best elements of the game and each car has had the same handling throughout the series, more or less unchanged. It was spot on. It was the aiming/combat controls that sucked.
Thats a stupid list article designed for digg and not much thought put into it at all.- Nerfdude, on 04/12/2008, -0/+3while driving was a huge portion of the game, driving in GTA3 and up has always been pretty terrible. if they give it more of an arcade racer feel it'll really pump up the gameplay.. honestly, play Driver 4 (a series that has become yet another GTA clone) and check out how they handle driving. they keep it very tight compared to GTA's controls.
- nobelief, on 04/13/2008, -0/+4Driving was terrible actually
- xero9, on 04/13/2008, -0/+1Play the Godfather game then we'll talk. GTA is light years ahead
- Coffeedemon, on 04/13/2008, -0/+1I'm a little nervous that weather will now actually impact your car's handling. It was hard enough with just the visibility going down in GTA:SA - I drove into my share of rivers/ditches due to the fog and not watching the map.
- mGARANDEUR1, on 04/12/2008, -7/+24Personally, I thought that the map in San Andreas was a little too big. The amount of ***** that you had to do was also too much (work out, eat, date girls). I would like to see more of a driving game.
- KINGGS, on 04/12/2008, -0/+5yeah, and the boondocks were so depressing. It bored the ***** out of me going through those woods.
- Nerfdude, on 04/12/2008, -0/+6san andreas had a lot of land but not a lot in it. it looks like GTA4 is just going to be smaller, but PACKED.
- dsmx, on 04/13/2008, -2/+2I look at GTA:SA this way it was big for big's sake not because it needed to be that big. I never understood what benefit there was to having 3 cities they could of had only 2 and still got the same effect.
- bnorman, on 04/12/2008, -3/+58I hated this article. Only because it led me to believe there were actual flaws to GTA IV, but every time it pointed one out it spun around and said: "Just kidding!! It's actually awesome."
Thanks for wasting my time with things I already knew. - neocr0n, on 04/12/2008, -3/+16Grand Theft Auto as a series has never disappointed me yet. I have no reason to believe this one will.
- imacbook, on 04/12/2008, -1/+1O Rly? What about when they said that San Andreas was struggling to fit on a dual layer DVD and then shipped it on a single layer disc? What about when they said you could drive the trams in San Fierro and the game shipped without this?

- Rizin, on 04/12/2008, -0/+21Just as it should be. Graphics are nice and all but if you have no substance then there is no point in having pretty eye candy.
- codyp, on 04/12/2008, -0/+1besides, they have really bumped up the graphics from the previous games. Not only will the game play be great, but it will look awesome also.

- paulmer2003, on 04/12/2008, -0/+5Nowai! I loved how big San Andreas was, there was just so much to do! I remember with Vice City, it got a bit old. Way too small.
- xero9, on 04/13/2008, -0/+1Sooooo, waiting a few weeks is going to let you know if you like the game or not how exactly? Just rent it if you're really that concerned.
- CarzorStelatis, on 04/13/2008, -0/+1It'll mean he'll have the benefit of the opinions of people who've bought the game on release day, rather than relying on bought-and-paid-for corporate game reviewers.
- lukasmack, on 04/12/2008, -2/+6Ok, Number 4 - You won't reconize the controls
Is it just me or does the commenting on the handling of the vehicles not anything to do with the controls? Or is it just me being picky and stupid?- CarzorStelatis, on 04/13/2008, -0/+1Yes, the controls have nothing to do with the way vehicles turn. Everything happens randomly without any user input.

- nakedmoses, on 04/12/2008, -8/+4This is the crappiest review I heard from some one reviewing GTA - this is just saying that they are scared that this may end up being another Halo flop - this isn't Halo, GTA is from a totally different game company they use different scenario and different engines. All games have something wrong with them - and with games now being a billion dollar year industry there only going to make it bigger and bigger. GTA never disappointed me - yes there was a few flaws here and there, what other games don't, oh wait card games those are pretty hard to screw up.
- repick3, on 04/12/2008, -2/+2Being dug down by Halo fanboys ftw... I pretty much agree with you except that GTA 3, Vice City and San Andreas all use the RenderWare engine. It didn't really matter though, because the settings were so different.
- NetBoy16, on 04/12/2008, -13/+2Who cares for GTA IV?
- rikwakefield, on 04/12/2008, -1/+9*raises hand*
- Langford, on 04/12/2008, -3/+3From the descriptions, it seems like the only real improvements are graphics and a few multiplayer modes. Not to suggest those things are bad, they are good things, but they seem less than hype worthy. After all, every new version of almost any game has better graphics, and any 3D game with a network connection can be made to give you verses modes. Oh well, I guess it will be fun in it's own way, although I won't experience it because it's not on any of my platforms of choice.
- codyp, on 04/12/2008, -3/+1Is your platform of choice the Wii!?!?!??!
- ELCad, on 04/13/2008, -1/+2I want GTA4 on the PC! I like the GTAs better on the PC myself. More control options, better graphics, and of course the free mods.
- aelias, on 04/12/2008, -1/+2you forgot AI, Weapons, Hand to Hand Combat, Driving Physics, Character Animation and Dialog Triggering

- lukasmack, on 04/12/2008, -3/+10Sounds like I'm complaining about this game a lot but it seems they've left out a lot of basic things. Like more customization of characters and little things like that. Planes and jet packs were what made San Andreas fun for me, only reason I played it. I loved going up the mountain and doing crazy ***** in a quad bike or caravan or monster truck off the top of the mountain. The freedom whats made GTA for me. And it appears like they are going backwards.
- blackula01, on 04/12/2008, -5/+1If you want planes go buy flight simulator, noob.

I hope my job and relationship survive the neglect I will be subjecting them to. When GTA3-SA came out, I didn't even masturbate for almost a month, I was so caught up in the game.
