Build a Nintendo NES PC

instructables.com — Tired of blowing out your old cartridges and don't want to shell out your hard earned cash for a wii? Here is a step by step guide to build a Nintendo NES with PC components inside. Enjoy all those old favorites and have all the functionality of a PC in the coolest case on your block.

      Doesn't looked too overlooked to me

      I suggest everyone who is into the Nintendo PC check that out. It's the episode with Tim Wasson, the guy who pretty much started the first tutorial

      let me translate that into how most people in australia would say that

      Yeah, I'm American.
      The technical name for Velcro is hook and loop tape. And Swiffer is a floor cleaning/broom/mop/duster combo sort of thing.

      But I would agree with you, it's amazing how much commercial life invades our everyday lives. So many products or processes are called by their brand names instead of a more appropriate non-brand named name. (e.g. soda insead of Coke, or copy instead of Xerox). While I generally agree with diggfinity, I typically don't make much of a deal of it. I would say that I play my Sega instead of my Genesis, because if you say "I spent all day playing Sonic the Hedgehog on my Sega", one generally assumes you mean Genesis.

      Though, I don't know many people anymore who say Xerox instead of copy.

      soda or pop or soft drink would be the non brand name
    • Murdats, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I know coke is a brand, I wasnt trying to sub all commercial references, I was trying to describe how people would say that in australia, and if you are having a can of cola, you generally say coke or pepsi (generally your only choices), or you say soft drink.

      Obviously you're not familiar with mini-itx cases and custom case mods. http://www.mini-itx.com/projects.asp check this out and get enlightened. You'll then be saying the NES is huge.

  • j0keR, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Would have been an amazing mod had he mounted a working NES ROM dumper in the cartridge slot, and used a controller to USB adapter in the controller ports. Dugg for a decent mod anyhow.

      Incidentally, unless you built your computer from parts, there's a 99% chance you paid for Windows (even if you don't use it), assuming you don't use a Mac. If you have a Mac, there's a 100% chance you paid for OS X. I'd imagine you know that already, but it's hard to tell here on Digg. There's a lot of people who think that starting IE is the end-all of knowing computing.

The only difference with the one that I built was that I re-wired the controller ports so that they would work with the original controllers without having to modify them at all. I can't give myself the credit for figuring out how to do that though, I used this guys tutorial.

    I have had the complete ROM set for years and just haven't found a good emulator for it yet. MESS is still in development.

One day, when I get off of my lazy ass, I'll take pics of mine and put them on my site. You can't tell from the outside that there is a PC in it, from the front, back, bottom... Perfection. It is exactly the same as my regular NES on the exterior. Rookies...
