- digg it
- Mc_Carter, on 10/12/2007, -27/+7This has been submitted before but overlooked so I figured I'd give it another chance.
- diggfinity, on 10/12/2007, -6/+13Well as long as the Digg community has *your* blessing...
- ImTheDarkcyde, on 10/12/2007, -8/+1another "i didn't hit front page first time, so i'll try again" post.. gah
also, its hit front page, several times, individually and on many top 10 lists - EGOvoruhk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5http://digg.com/mods/The_Screen_Savers_Turn_your_NES_into_a_PC
Doesn't looked too overlooked to me
I suggest everyone who is into the Nintendo PC check that out. It's the episode with Tim Wasson, the guy who pretty much started the first tutorial - EBFoxbat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yeah, never seen anything like this before. What a great idea... or....
- michaelkanobie, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1brain fart!
- ghosteater, on 10/12/2007, -28/+2i seem to remember seeing this on call for help. its old and probably wont ever see the front page.
- wild, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12Well, you sure ***** up.
- diggfinity, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9The internet is laughing at you, sir.
- sikosmurf, on 10/12/2007, -4/+17I love Nintento Nintendo Entertainment Systems.
- diggfinity, on 10/12/2007, -17/+6It always irks me when people call things by their manufacturer. You don't run 'Microsoft' - you run Windows. Your favorite game wasn't on the 'Sega' - it was on the Genesis.
X( - arbulus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8@diggfinity
Well, I have to go over to the mailroom and Xerox this memo, but first I better Velcro my shoe. While I'm down here I notice that the floor is dirty; better Swiffer it. Then I'll sit down and have a Coke while I TiVo MacGuyver. - Scrappy1850, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1i wiped my eyes with Kleenex when gmu was left out of the NCAA tournament
- ImTheDarkcyde, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2"It always irks me when people call things by their manufacturer. You don't run 'Microsoft' - you run Windows. Your favorite game wasn't on the 'Sega' - it was on the Genesis."
and it's not mac, and it's not apple, its OSX! - Murdats, on 10/12/2007, -8/+3"Well, I have to go over to the mailroom and Xerox this memo, but first I better Velcro my shoe. wow, america is highly commercial (ill assume your american)
let me translate that into how most people in australia would say that
"Well, I have to go and photocopy this memo, but first I better do up my shoes (does velcro have another name, and who says velcro my shoe?). while im down here I notice that the floor is dirty; better sweep it (I assume swiffer is some sort of broom type item). then ill sit down and have a coke while I record MacGuyver" (Macgyver is winz, and we dont have but we do have other PVR's) - Murdats, on 10/12/2007, -8/+2"Well, I have to go over to the mailroom and Xerox this memo, but first I better Velcro my shoe. Yeah, I'm American.
The technical name for Velcro is hook and loop tape. And Swiffer is a floor cleaning/broom/mop/duster combo sort of thing.
But I would agree with you, it's amazing how much commercial life invades our everyday lives. So many products or processes are called by their brand names instead of a more appropriate non-brand named name. (e.g. soda insead of Coke, or copy instead of Xerox). While I generally agree with diggfinity, I typically don't make much of a deal of it. I would say that I play my Sega instead of my Genesis, because if you say "I spent all day playing Sonic the Hedgehog on my Sega", one generally assumes you mean Genesis.
Though, I don't know many people anymore who say Xerox instead of copy. - cawpin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1poop
- STKD, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Almost as much as I love Detective Comics Comics.
- doddilus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@murdats
"...then ill sit down and have a coke while..."
coke is a brand
soda or pop or soft drink would be the non brand name - Murdats, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I know coke is a brand, I wasnt trying to sub all commercial references, I was trying to describe how people would say that in australia, and if you are having a can of cola, you generally say coke or pepsi (generally your only choices), or you say soft drink.
and sorry about the double post, digg did something wierd
- diggfinity, on 10/12/2007, -17/+6It always irks me when people call things by their manufacturer. You don't run 'Microsoft' - you run Windows. Your favorite game wasn't on the 'Sega' - it was on the Genesis.
- RoyRP216, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6This would go nice with a USB-compatible NES controller:
http://www.joystiq.com/2004/09/07/how-to-make-a-nintendo-controller-into-a-pc-joystick/ - Elric1977, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4Two years old, I've had my NES PC for just about 2.
- PixelVision, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1I'd rather see a PC built inside a much smaller console, the NES is huge and is bigger than most cases you can get for those small motherboards
- cawpin, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1pixel - WTF are you smoking? NES is HUGE? I think not. There aren't many cases smaller than that. Shuttle cases aren't so don't say they are.
- PixelVision, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@cawpin
Obviously you're not familiar with mini-itx cases and custom case mods. http://www.mini-itx.com/projects.asp check this out and get enlightened. You'll then be saying the NES is huge.
- night141, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12"Tired of blowing out your old cartridges"
***** no! it's the internal battery inside the cartridges that keep the save games is what I'm worried about :( - catfish182, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I have built about 3 so far for people.
This is Dugg for being fun but this is old.
on the other hand a lot of lame crap gets reposted also so it dosnt matter.- tedhead2k, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Wanna build me one and ship it? I'll pay you.
This is awesome, but I'm lazy.
- tedhead2k, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Wanna build me one and ship it? I'll pay you.
- purduecmpe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Another amazing PC thanks to the VIA C7!
http://www.via.com.tw/en/products/processors/ - DigitalDud, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1How about building a PC with NES components? Like that guy who put a PPU on an ISA board. Fitting crap inside a case is pretty lame.
- j0keR, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Would have been an amazing mod had he mounted a working NES ROM dumper in the cartridge slot, and used a controller to USB adapter in the controller ports. Dugg for a decent mod anyhow.
- PacoDG, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5LOL @ the first comment on that page: "I'd use Linux, if for no other reason than to save about 200 bucks on Windows." - .. what an idiot, as though people who are running thousands of illegal roms are actually paying for the operating system its running on.
My kingdom for someone who has paid for a copy of Windows, ever.- childprey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1how big is your kingdom? Would it be worth me spending $200 on windows to spite you?
Nah, nothing is quite worth that dirty feeling. - PacoDG, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Well my Grandma's basement isn't too shabby, but, I know if someone has found their way here onto digg, at the least, they know better than to pay for programs on their computers.
- heinousjay, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Some of us work in the industry creating those programs. I know it's fashionable to pirate, but it's not the pinnacle of knowledge, exactly.
Incidentally, unless you built your computer from parts, there's a 99% chance you paid for Windows (even if you don't use it), assuming you don't use a Mac. If you have a Mac, there's a 100% chance you paid for OS X. I'd imagine you know that already, but it's hard to tell here on Digg. There's a lot of people who think that starting IE is the end-all of knowing computing.

- nicedanmonkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I built a NES PC once. The only difference with the one that I built was that I re-wired the controller ports so that they would work with the original controllers without having to modify them at all. I can't give myself the credit for figuring out how to do that though, I used this guys tutorial.
http://hellalame.com/nes/ - jonohull, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2He keeps saying he used a frontend to hide the actual Windows part. Did I miss where he said which one he uses, or didn't he at all?
- BobMysterioso, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I too want to know this very question.
I've used myHTPC, as well as zNES - but I've never had one controller based. - zetamilk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Looks like GameEx:
http://www.tomspeirs.com/gameex/about.htm
- BobMysterioso, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I too want to know this very question.
- tmbg47, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Nintendo NES...
RAS Syndrome, anyone?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RAS_syndrome - tooasianguys, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I've always wanted to secure an optical drive with duct tape
- Pie_Man, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Do any of you know of a good, free, command line (for mame-wah) PC Engine/Turbographix 16 emulator?
I have had the complete ROM set for years and just haven't found a good emulator for it yet. MESS is still in development. - vwgtiturbo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Wow, that was one of the ugliest NES PC mods I have seen in a long time. Why the hell do people digg this stuff? One day, when I get off of my lazy ass, I'll take pics of mine and put them on my site. You can't tell from the outside that there is a PC in it, from the front, back, bottom... Perfection. It is exactly the same as my regular NES on the exterior. Rookies...
- Sxerks, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Ya, that guys sucks. Duct tape? WTF, and what's with the controller plugs?
Mine looks way better: (geocities, sorry)

- ONI5, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0What, this is wrong. You buy an original XBOX and mod it and bam! Gaming PC!
- omgcthulhu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'ts a bad habit to play computer games at all, i know =)
- crossers, on 07/16/2008, -0/+0good guide! and I like NES
