BioShock CONFIRMED for PS3 - no longer PC/360 exclusive
xs100.xs.to — In this month's OPM UK, it is confirmed that BioShock is no longer exclusive to the 360/PC and is slated for a March 2007 release on the Playstation 3.

- clubmasta2, on 10/12/2007, -36/+4I didn't think BioShock was ever exclusive...I thought they were like Square and did what they wanted when they wanted? They're taping into the PS3 market cause that's where all the FPS action is...how is this news when it's just a developer making games for a system that's hit huge among FPS fans?
- hchaudh1, on 10/12/2007, -19/+45Good news. The lesser exclusives there are out there, the better it is for gamers. Same goes for 360 titles.
- hchaudh1, on 10/12/2007, -25/+7Nice to know that there are people (digging me down) who will rather want gamers to have less choice.
- HawkTail, on 10/12/2007, -23/+13WTF are you talking about? Sony hs never been a FPS consel! The best shooters you have is Socom and Killzone, and those suck. If you only play Sony, than thats all you know. Play a good fps, like: Rainbow 6, Halo, Oddworld: strangers wrath, Doom 3, and Riddick, just to name a few.
- buckynekkid, on 10/12/2007, -1/+38"Good news. The lesser exclusives there are out there, the better it is for gamers. Same goes for 360 titles."
I hate the irrational fanboyism that exclusives create, but I disagree with your statement. Generally multi-platform games are a bland bunch. You have a few diamonds in the rough, such as "Prince of Persia: SoT" or "Beyond Good and Evil", but for the most part they are the most mediocre of games. This is because most of the multi-platform games are developed for each console simultaneously, as opposed to a larger team focusing on one platform. These smaller teams lack the resources and time to develop a game made for just one platform. Also to have a certain uniformity between different platforms not much is done to fully take advantage of one system's strengths over another. Instead of dividing resources between multiple teams, a developer could decide to focus on one console release, and then port the title to other systems later. However, we all know that ports are a mixed bag, and also carry with them the later release date. Ubisoft does good work (they are the developers of my two aforementioned examples) and "Assassin's Creed" looks to uphold their good track record. Unfortunately they are the exception, not the rule. - raj3, on 10/12/2007, -24/+17"WTF are you talking about? Sony hs never been a FPS consel! "
On the contrary, with mouse/keyboard support, the PS3 is poised to become THE FPS console. I've always been a PC guy myself, but if the PS3 m/kb support works out, it just might pull me into the console world. - Cojawfee, on 10/12/2007, -7/+18So you will give up your way more powerful (and only moderately more expensive) PC just to play an FPS that would have come out on PC anyway?
- popularme, on 10/12/2007, -17/+1another nail in Sony's coffin
- ImTheDarkcyde, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16"On the contrary, with mouse/keyboard support, the PS3 is poised to become THE FPS console. I've always been a PC guy myself, but if the PS3 m/kb support works out,"
Unreal Tournament on the PS2 took advantage of mouse/keyboard input, but it was still just better on the PC thanks to the user created mods - Stonedonkey, on 10/12/2007, -3/+24This is an old article and an inaccurate story. The amount of basic information about Bioshock (plus the fact that it has been "BioShock" for months), the wrong PS3 art at the top right, and the wrong release date shoulda tipped ya off : )
- sockpuppets, on 10/12/2007, -8/+19This is going to make both PS3 owners very happy.
- CraigCarlyle, on 10/12/2007, -6/+4I always thought it was PS3 bound, but perhaps it was just a rumor. Nice to see some confirmation then.
The more people that get to enjoy BioShock, the better :) - staticneuron, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1So..... if they were working on a version for the PS3 then said a short time later that it was exclusive..... does anyone here really believe that a version isn't coming out for the PS3? This reminds me of when ubisoft slipped up and showed project assasins (assasins creed) at a game show then later stated that creed was a PS3 exclusive. We all knows what happened after that.
- theonlybigboss, on 10/12/2007, -9/+13"So you will give up your way more powerful (and only moderately more expensive) PC just to play an FPS that would have come out on PC anyway?"
Cojawfee are you ***** high off your ass? a very good gaming PC cost far more than a PS3, stop your ***** trolling
anyone else tired of the "lets be all against sony just because its cool" *****? - Johnnycashak, on 10/12/2007, -6/+3When was BioShock ever exclusive? Look at who is making the damn thing... do you think Sony's GTA lapdog would ever keep them out of the party? I'd imagine the only people not getting in on this game would be the Wii owners, as It's a cinch the Wii couldn't handle the load.
I do have to say that I wouldn't call a random 'scan' of a random magazine article 'Confirmed' proof. It looks low quality to me, which either makes it a good photoshop job, or a bad scanned one. Either way, some people have way too much time on their hands. - distrbnce, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2lol @ Cojawfee...
To say my PC is "way more powerful" than a PS3...
Flattery will get you nowhere. - Benzido, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1@hhaudh1:
Less exclusives gives you more choice between consoles, but less choice between games. It's also worth pointing out that less exclusives means more ports.
The best games seem to be developed with the capabilities of a particular platform in mind. - BlackKnight6, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3@distrbnce
He is probably right though about your PC. PCs have already leaped far, far ahead of the PS3 and 360 in the hardware arena (i.e. Intel Core 2 quadros, Nvidia 8800GTX, 4GB mem systems, etc).
Please don't try to bring up the Cell processor being 8 cores, it is not. It is ONE PPE core (though that is an in-order execution core, unlike superior desktop CPUs which are out-of-order execution cores) and 7 SPE's, and only 6 of the SPE's can be used for games. This goes for the 360 as well with its 3 PPE core CPU.
PCs will always be ahead, there is no arguing that. Hell, custom build a PC for less than $1,500 (including monitor and speakers and case and all) and you can build a PC better than the 360 and PS3 easy. Try including the cost of an HDTV and compatible surround sound system for the 360 or the PS3, it will be more in the end. - daridave, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6OMG I can't believe there's morons out there who claim that the PS3 will be "TEH FPS PLACE" if it gets a keyboard and mouse.
Just call it a *****' PC, then... without the beauty of modding. In other words, crap. - BlackKnight6, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1Don't for get about this for the 360 as well...
http://news.teamxbox.com/xbox/12471/XFPS-360-Final-Testing-Completed/ - modifiedbears, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10It IS exclusive. This is old and inaccurate. Some of you idiots are too quick to write up your little rants before checking things.
- shug7272, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3You guys do know that this is fake right? Well not fake but REALLY old. Never mind.
- kelbear, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Hchaudh1 is wrong.
Less exclusives doesn't help gamers. It just gives PS3 market share so that they can increase their own load of exclusives, which is /bad/ for gamers. I'd rather the PS3 go the way of Neo Geo so that I'll own all the relevant gaming platforms rather than add more hardware to my setup and shell out big bucks to play a PS3 exclusive that might have ended up on PC or Xbox360(Wii is in a different market entirely so I don't have to worry about my Wii losing exclusives to other consoles).
The PS3 is a good console, no question about it from me. If it was affordable, I would love to have one. But it is too goddamn expensive and it doesn't offer much more than my Xbox360. So less PS3 games means less PS3 exclusives, meaning more games made available to me on my Xbox360. - RazorElite, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Inaccurate. http://www.kotaku.com/gaming/bioshock/rumor-smash-bioshock-not-coming-to-the-ps3-225240.php
- hansblix, on 10/12/2007, -9/+1If it was already coming out for 2 systems then thats not exclusive. If a game comes to everything but the wii, does that make it an Xbox360/PS3/PC exclusive?
duh...- hirschab, on 10/12/2007, -22/+10Awesome, one more motivation to buy a PS3. 360 is looking less appealing by the day. As soon as Sony gets their online act together, I will buy a PS3.
- JayD16, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I don't know...a Microsoft rep would claim that it would be all part of the live anywhere 360-PC pipe dream and is actually an exclusive as far as Microsoft is concerned.
- slaystench, on 10/12/2007, -22/+16About time a 360 exclusive goes to the PS3. Hopefully this will shut some people up.
- miketuck3r, on 10/12/2007, -4/+13its not coming to ps3 the scans are from may 2006, it was announced as 360/pc exclusive at X06 later in the year
- SGagnon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I guess someone was behind in his magazine reading LOL
- slaystench, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Yeah... I don't read magazines at all. They are usually behind the times. =p
- Thorlord, on 10/12/2007, -12/+5odd reversal. but as stated above not uncommon.
but i believe the PS3 needs it or else it will become extinct.
fight for your life PS3.- BlackKnight6, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2@Krenor
A few of the exclusives I would consider a not much of a motivation to buy the PS3 over a 360. - Thorlord, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Ninja Gaiden for the PS3 is the same one for the xbox, no extra content, just higher resolution textures. Assasin's Creed is coming out on the 360 silmoutaniously, Virtua Fighter 5 is also coming out on the 360 as well.
the rest (motorstorm, lair, FFXIII,) i have no desire to play, that leaves MGS and Resistance..
and honestly after playing resistance for 5 hours.. i dont want that game anymore.. it is the perfect definition of "Generic FPS" so its off my list.
and as good as MGS may be, its not worth the purchase of a $600 console.
the PS3 needs as many games as it can get.
- BlackKnight6, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2@Krenor
- KrazyKoala, on 10/12/2007, -2/+23This is incorrect. I believe this article is from a magazine a few months ago. I've seen it before. Then after that Microsoft then announced the console exclusivity. Notice it says March 2007, whereas it was recently changed to may 2007.
- HumanWaste, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4That's exactly what I was thinking. Notice the old PS3 model in the top left corner; this article is a bit old and probably inaccurate. Chances are, we'll hear something from the BioShock team that'll either confirm/deny this rumor.
- probune, on 10/12/2007, -5/+16Inaccurate - the magazine is old, it has the old PS3 controller design in the upper left corner.
- SuMizzle, on 10/12/2007, -8/+40It was announced at X06. It is exclusive to the 360 and PC. Sorry to ***** on your potato salad.

The exact same scans ... posted back in May. Interesting.
Also of note is that X06 was held after that article went public. Months after actually. At X06, it was confirmed that BioShock is a 360 and PC exclusive.
Marked as inaccurate. - chriskzoo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14Apologies guys - only after posting it did I realize the scan was old.

- theshad0w2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Check 2kGames website this is an exclusive title to PC and 360!
The Official BioShock site also claims its exclusive!- popfrogs, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Uh, if it's coming out for more than one platform, why use the word "exclusive"? It's only exclusive if it's locked to a single platform. Resistance, for example, is exclusive.
- pukiman, on 10/12/2007, -8/+3Sucks to be a PS3 fanboys in this time. Finally a decent game (I don't give a ***** about Final Fantasy 890 and Metal Gear Solid 45) to be released on PS3, but then it's getting canned by "inaccuracy". Same goes for all the "look at me" graphics, thats being overpowered by a console that released a year ago.
All I can do, is laugh :D - Spaceomega, on 10/12/2007, -8/+2Yeah, definately not true. PS3's controller is horrible for FPS...Hell, PS3/PS2 controller is just horrible. Haha.
- ulcards2033, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3No more horrible than any other controller. Well maybe the wiimote is better but they're no worse than any other uh "classic style" controller.
- Bobalobabingbon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3the wiimote is ok, but your arms get tires after a while.
the ps2ps3 controllers are just fine, best you can get on a console so far, besides the keyboardmouse hookup on the ps3
- fatalfury, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1OH MY GOD, good news for the PS3
- UNSCleric, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5This story is false, it's never coming to the PS3, sorry.
- SilverhammerMBA, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Whatever, I just hope they don't screw up the game by "consolizing" the PC version with crappy controls and graphics limitations.
- autocrawler, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1They won't, at least not according to Levine's postings on the TTLG forums.
- miketuck3r, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10##TO CLEAR THIS INCORRECT DIGG UP##

The PS3 fanboys are digging up 6 month old mag scans, i know times are hard but ...- daridave, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3I have to agree with you.
Innacurate... or just plain ol' damage control.
Besides, why in the heck would this be announced on December 30th ? Ya, OK, keep trying hard fanboys.
- daridave, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3I have to agree with you.
- knodi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Buried for old and inaccurate/proven false info.
- harelo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3If you don't think its old, Also notice at the top left corner that the PS3 has the old "Boomerang" controller design.
Definitely Incorrect.
Plus its OPM, they have a history of inaccurate reports.- knodi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7"Plus its OPM, they have a history of inaccurate reports."

- kanundrum, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Just look at the website http://2kgames.com/bioshock at the logos that are there at the bottom . No ps3. I would know
- MaXPL, on 10/12/2007, -8/+7inaccurate. sorry crapstation fans.
- Bobalobabingbon, on 10/12/2007, -6/+4crapstation?? you obviously have not played the ps3, so STFU!
- SPARTACVS, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2I love how they use ***** Playstation games as an example to try and explain what Bioshock is. "GTA San Andreas meets Final Fantasy meets Killzone, underwater". God that just sounds retarded. This should've stayed a Vista/360 exclusive. Now Irrational is just wasting their valuable time and development resources on release date delay-inducing POS that will hardly have enough consoles out there for them to make any money on this version of their game. This may still end up as incredible as I hoped, but I'm now expecting an unfinished and unpolished game, thanks to their now divided attention from my two platforms of choice.
EDIT: Looks like this was an article from BEFORE it was announced as a Microsoft platform exclusive. Great! I take back everything I said. Except the Ps3, it's still horrible.- Bobalobabingbon, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2and another idiot that has no idea what they are talking about
- BlackKnight6, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2If you played System Shock or Deus Ex, you would understand the gameplay. Bioshock gameplay seems to be like Deus Ex (FPS/RPG/Stealth hybrid, very fun and successful PC game) with a mix of "GTA/Saints Row"; the idea that you will see NPCs reacting with each other like you are in the middle of a living world, minus the stealth aspect of Deus Ex unless I missed them mentioning a stealth system. Some NPCs kill others while other while protect the one being attacked, read here for more detail on the world in Bioshock:

- BlackKnight6, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Sad but true. Well almost always true, few multiplatformers are good like Prince of Persia series and so on.
- Phocion55, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Too bad....my 8 month old PC completely blows the "super insanely powerful" PS3 out of the water anyway.....
- popfrogs, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1And how much did you spend on your PC total?
Yeah, way to compare apples to oranges guy.
- popfrogs, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1And how much did you spend on your PC total?
- joaob, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5When will you ***** nerds get it ? The advantage of the console is that you can set it up anywhere, you almost never need to upgrade in order to play a new game or a sequel (so you know you're good for at least 3-4 years), you can easily play multiplayer games when your friends come over, and you can easily hook it up to your 72" Plasma TV while keeping your PC connected to a 17" monitor when work needs to be done.
Yes we all know your super duper uber computer is so much fasterzzzz and you have 6 gigs of RAM and oodles of processing power. And the mouse lets you ownz peoples from miles away. Awesome. Congratulations.- chicbicyclist, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I agree.
Besides, modding is not that far off with internet enabled consoles equipped with hard drives/flash memory and/or SD cards. - BlackKnight6, on 10/12/2007, -5/+5I don't think you understand. Mid range gaming PCs are as fast or faster than the PS3 or 360, and does more and cost just as much or a little more (depends on what deals on parts you get). If you can't build a PC then yes, you best stick with the PS3 or 360 for gaming on a budget. Dell and others will rip you off. My PC equivalent from Dell (monitor and speakers as well) was less $1,400 (this was back in August when I upgraded my CPU, mobo and hard drive) while Dell would have charged me around $4,500. My PC is already faster than both (maybe not the 360 video card, I have an OCed 7900GTX, since it is ATi's unreleased R600 DX10 card with one shader array disabled, PS3 has an OCed 7800GTX equivalent).
It is nice to see you say it is cheaper and then bring up hooking your PS3/360 into "your 72" Plasma TV". That money alone would buy you the best gaming computer you could build.
My PC has 4x the RAM of either console.
My PC's CPU is already faster than both.
My video card is better than the PS3's and possibly the 360's.
I only buy games for my 360 that are exclusive to the 360, that means exclusive in the sense no PC counterpart either (unless the PC version is clearly a bad port, ports aren't bad, lazy/sloppy ports are i.e. Halo). GoW, Halo 3, etc I can only get on the 360. But Assassin's Creed, Bioshock, etc will be on my PC, plus a little benefit that it costs 10 bucks less per PC game than the 360/PS3 version. - Zybex, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I agree. I bought a 360 because I liked the idea of "shove in a disc and go" rather than "install, configure, crash, swear, patch, download newest video drivers, download newest directx, play"
True my PC hardware is comparable to the 360 now (Oldish system but it meets my needs) but there are very few (next to none) games that come with Linux binaries and on this particular machine dual booting doesn't seem to work out too well (a hard drive problem I believe). I am not swapping out hard drives and booting to win2k everytime I want to play a game.
Looking forward to Bioshock. System shock 2 is my all time favourite and this promises to be similar. As long as it is on the 360 I really don't care if the PS3 gets it too. - popfrogs, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Let's see...buy an expensive gaming pc, upgrade it for every new game or suffer a bad framerate, install yet another horrible version of Windows so you can play Battlefield 32 (DirectX 10 I'm looking at your unnecessary ass)...or buy a console and have fun for 5 years.
I know, it's a real puzzler.
- chicbicyclist, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I agree.

- dolphumous, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1PC/360:
Available on two platforms
Exclusive:
The sole rights to have the game.
Hmmm...- harelo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I think more than anything its a Microsoft exclusive, since this game will only be available on Microsoft's XBox 360 and Windows based PCs (it won't be available in a Macintosh for example). So rather than an Xbox/PC exclusive, it would be more accurate to say BioShock is a Microsoft Exclusive.
- McGrunty, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Don't believe everything you see. I'm pretty damn sure this is still a PC and 360 exclusive.
Also about the guy who said the PS3 will be the "FPS console" is sorely mistaken. With the XFPS 360 the 360 has a giant advantage along with all the great shooters on the original Xbox. - TheGrizah, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1In all seriousness...if you're even considering getting a console version of Bioshock, Alan Wake, Command And Conquer 3, Spore...you're a bad person and should probably reconsider your doodie faced ideas. :p
- mthanded, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This is a really old issue of this magazine. Look at the boomerang controller in the top left.

http://www.kotaku.com/gaming/bioshock/rumor-smash-bioshock-not-coming-to-the-ps3-225240.php - Demosthenese05, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1First of all, for those who keep hating on the PS3 u are idiots! I know you love ur 360 but in the long run the the PS3 is a better unit!! With that said u still can't go wrong with either one!!! As far as the Bioshock exclusive, U would be an idiot if u think it will not be on the PS3, maybe not at launch but it will be on the PS3. Simply from a business standpoint, do u really think a 3rd party publisher who spent millions on development will not try to profit on potential sales from a platform. The industry wave is moving to multiplatform software except for those titles developed by console studios!!!
- Zips, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Did you bother to read any of the rest of this thread? It's already been debunked. It's not coming to the PS3. So, ignoring your quip about how the "PS3 is a better unit" (fanboy comment much?), I'm sorry to have burst your bubble.
- gwolf, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Why would anyone want to spend what it will take in additional development cost to put this on PS3. Anything that’s optimized for Xbox 360 has to be done completely differently on PS3. If a game is using more than one general purpose CPU with two threads it's not a simple port over to the PS3 because of their fundamentally different design philosophies.
- hype519, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0What exactly makes the PS3 the "better unit" ? Just want to know what your actually basing this on something other than your own sorely lacking opinion.
Ahhh, and ones got to love the fact that this is old and innacurate.
- Sypher123, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0PC has always been the best of the best. PC is still the best, period. We have Quad-core processors and we have quad SLI. Even 2 video cards totally annihilates 360 and the PS3 hands down. Think what you want, PC will always remain the best. Forever.
PC is better because playing a FPS or RTS game on a console is retarded. Controllers SHOULD NEVER BE USED FOR THOSE TYPE OF GAMES, EVER!
Soon this year, we will have video cards that can surpass the Geforce 8800GTX. You can't even compare that to the pethetic 360. They should port the PS3 FPS games to the PC. You would get the same and perhaps better graphics on the PC, and it will be far better to aim and walk/run around with the mouse and keyboard. A computer can have up to 16 GB of ram, I've seen it for my own eyes, and maybe in the far future, the use of more than one processor. All consoles try to do it copy the PC, but when they have like 2 video cards or more (WHICH WILL BE A LONG TIME FOR THAT TO HAPPEN) we will have maybe more than 4. PC is not for the poor people. Hey if you want the ultimate gaming machine, it's gonna cost you alot. PS3 > 360 NO ***** - Sypher123, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0http://search.ign.com/products?query=bioshock
