- dustblower, on 05/28/2008, -4/+46Oh my god I can't freakin wait. This was by far my favorite game when I played it for the original xbox.
- JettaMan, on 05/28/2008, -44/+5Nah. The first one sucked ass. I don't know why people are acting excited about this. This reminds me of Psychonauts, a game that people are told they are supposed to think is great but in reality just doesn't have much going for it.
- samfishercell, on 05/28/2008, -0/+12Disagreed on both counts. Please enlighten as to what constitutes a "great game."
- louiedog, on 05/28/2008, -0/+2I thought it was a really fun game. Although it was too short which meant I only recommended people rent it, but totally worth playing. If Nintendo had made it (and I think they could have, although they would have dumbed the story down), it would have sold 20 million copies.
- bagboyrebel, on 05/28/2008, -0/+13If you can't see the genius that is psychonauts then I don't think I can trust any off your other opinions.
- Terr01, on 05/29/2008, -0/+7Speaking as someone who has played both only long after their releases... No, they are both games which deserved more popularity than they got.
IMO, Psychonauts to a greater extent.
'Course, what I'm really waiting for with bated breath is Deus Ex 3.- JettaMan, on 05/29/2008, -3/+1Ok, you just mentioned Deus Ex, a game that actually is worth playing. Psychonauts, I got about ten minutes in and realized I was bored to death. Ditto with BG&E... maybe got 20 minutes into that one.
- gryphon50, on 05/29/2008, -0/+4you don't like Beyond Good and Evil AND you don't like Psychonauts? You must be a troll, you can't be serious.
- HumanRecall, on 05/29/2008, -1/+4You sir are an EPIC FAIL at gaming life !!
- samfishercell, on 05/29/2008, -0/+3I agree with gryphon50. Unless you SPED through the first 10 minutes of Psychonauts, you didn't even make it into the first brain and complete THE TUTORIAL. I found enough (art style, witty writing, etc.) within the first 10 minutes of the demo to convince me to buy the game.
- Terr01, on 05/29/2008, -1/+2@gryphon50:
I highly suggest you re-visit it, unless you're sure that the brand of humor in it is not to your liking. Part of the charm of the game is that it likes to throw curveballs, both in the plot and in the humor. The first ten minutes may make you feel like it's some sort of "Bart Simpson Must Survive Springfield Summer Camp" title, but before the end you get to crush the buildings of LungFish-opolis.

- Genma, on 05/29/2008, -0/+2well it's really the opposite, neither of them got much hype and marketing but are still popular because they're original, with good art and production value. what really sucked was the pc port of bg&e, halfassed with game ending bugs that ubi didn't bother to fix, it was only playable because of a user created hack. maybe they'll wise up this time around and put some proper resources into the sequel.
- SeaBass22, on 05/28/2008, -0/+8I just bought a used PS2 copy for like $8 online. It's one of those "never got around to it but wish I had" games.
- tjmb9, on 05/29/2008, -0/+3That game made me really want a Sci-Fi Zelda.
- JettaMan, on 05/28/2008, -44/+5Nah. The first one sucked ass. I don't know why people are acting excited about this. This reminds me of Psychonauts, a game that people are told they are supposed to think is great but in reality just doesn't have much going for it.
- bigmuffpi, on 05/28/2008, -3/+9Amen
- illegal_op, on 05/28/2008, -1/+74I loved the first one on the GC, it was one of the best third party games for the system. I will buy this on day one. If anyone is a true fan they will do the same so Ubi will be more likely to make more. On a side note If you have never played the first do NOT buy it used. Buy it through Steam or IGN so the actual developers get something from it.
- moo083, on 05/28/2008, -0/+8I bought mine used, but only because they stopped production of the Gamecube version a long time ago. No gamestops had it either. I had to find a copy on eBay.
The point being, the game did so badly, it was tough just finding the damn game. I think the excitement that ramped up over the last couple years should help though.
Do buy it new if you can though so that sales numbers go up! - samfishercell, on 05/28/2008, -2/+7That is a great point. Here are links to both of them. I was lucky enough to have picked up on it early on and snagged it on launch day, but it is rather hard to find now. Plus, as illegal_op said, the developers will actually see the sales/demand from Direct to Drive or Steam... plus it's less than $10 on both (which is the steal of the century).
Steam:
http://www.steampowered.com/v/index.php?area=app&A ...
Direct to Drive : (Save 5 cents!)
http://www.direct2drive.com/18/product/Buy-Beyond- ...- plainchips, on 05/29/2008, -1/+3I'd love to buy this game, but they don't sell it in my country, are there any other ways to get it in Australia? I doubt EB would have anything but a second hand copy, if that.
- Gizza, on 05/29/2008, -0/+4Stupid Ubisoft and not publishing games on steam outside of NA. It's almost like they want us to pirate or something.
- moo083, on 05/28/2008, -0/+8I bought mine used, but only because they stopped production of the Gamecube version a long time ago. No gamestops had it either. I had to find a copy on eBay.
- whymog, on 05/28/2008, -0/+20This is excellent news. It's rare to play a game with any sort of soul, but Beyond Good and Evil undeniably had one. Let's be grateful; this game is being made against the odds.
- momegao, on 05/28/2008, -2/+8I never played the first one, but I'd really want to!!!! **Looking on the bargain bin**
- aplardi, on 05/28/2008, -0/+7It's amazingly good on any system. You may end up referencing a console version as opposed to PC, but to each his own. The graphics are crisp, bright, and beautiful on any system and the game play is seamless. Not to mention the amazing storytelling.
- Andytom, on 05/28/2008, -0/+4It's free on gametap
- JudgeMonkey, on 05/28/2008, -0/+2Even if it wasn't I would say get a subscription if only long enough to play this game. I have a subscription, so I wasn't aware it was available free. At that price, no one should overlook this title.
- MosaicM, on 05/29/2008, -1/+4Also available on Steam!
- zeritooverride, on 05/28/2008, -0/+23Ubisoft better watch that release date, dont want the same thing to happen again. I never knew about the first one until a friend of mine told me to buy it as a joke. Later the joke was on him since the game was one of the greatest games I have ever played!
- MagikOvenMit, on 05/28/2008, -0/+7This was unexpected... But oh my god, yes!
Also, if you sign up for your first month of Gametap (99 cents), then you can download BG&E for the PC. It's worth it. Then you can also play Sam & Max seasons 1 and 2... And Deus Ex... And Civ IV... - lobasuu, on 05/28/2008, -0/+21Teaser trailer mirrors:

- jonny342, on 05/28/2008, -0/+24This has made me the happiest I've been in a while.
We got a next gen pey'j!
I'm also listening to the soundtrack right now, and as soon as my friend gives me back my copy of the first BG&E, I'll play that through in a day or two.- vanden9, on 05/29/2008, -0/+5Can you upload it, I love to have a copy...
Edit for anyone who wants it I found a good copy.
http://www.stormeffect.com/beyond/index.htm- WarMachineWCLH, on 05/29/2008, -0/+2Thank you, that's awesome.
- vanden9, on 05/29/2008, -0/+5Can you upload it, I love to have a copy...
- TheVigilante, on 05/28/2008, -2/+5Too bad the Xbox version is not backwards compatible. I want to play it but don't own an Xbox. :(
- dinoboy, on 05/28/2008, -2/+6Steam is your friend.
- louiedog, on 05/28/2008, -0/+8I wouldn't be surprised if they added support and sold it as an xbox original before the sequel comes out.
- DinosWillDie13, on 05/28/2008, -27/+4This is a video of 80's people dancing to Rick Astley's "Never Gonna Give You Up":
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eBGIQ7ZuuiU- Purkake, on 05/28/2008, -1/+2plus points for originality
NOT - battletrax, on 05/29/2008, -1/+1"Never gonna digg you up" Never going let you down.
- Purkake, on 05/28/2008, -1/+2plus points for originality
- MsTechDiva, on 05/28/2008, -1/+2I loved this game, I cannot wait until it comes out.
- scubastza, on 05/28/2008, -30/+1Amount of Diggs on this story = amount of Digg users who have not touched a female breast in the last 6 months.
- Loornadune, on 05/28/2008, -5/+5Well, technically it's been announced for a while, it just finally got a trailer out.
- GlitchEnzo, on 05/28/2008, -0/+4Michel Ancel announced he was working on it, but Ubisoft had not yet announced that they were actually going to publish it.
- frozensnake, on 05/28/2008, -0/+7yes .. yeesss. YYEEEAAASSS!!!!!
thanks for the cooperation - AvidPreatorian, on 05/28/2008, -0/+9one of the most unknown games that is great and worth at least one play through. sequel better live up to it.
- Purkake, on 05/28/2008, -2/+6If the French screw this up, they will have more to worry about than watery wine and moldy cheese.
- Funpolice2050, on 05/28/2008, -3/+15MOAR!
- jingwei, on 05/28/2008, -0/+5Finally.
I was wondering if this would ever show up. - snds, on 05/28/2008, -1/+5Interesting. I might have to give the original a go on Gametap. =p
- terrenceisdaman, on 05/28/2008, -2/+4Great work Ubisoft.. .Now if only they would release a sequel to XIII
- Tahiri, on 05/29/2008, -0/+1XIII sucked
- terrenceisdaman, on 05/30/2008, -0/+1no, you suck!
- burstaneurysm, on 05/28/2008, -0/+12The original was terribly underrated. I'm looking forward to this.
- sgxyay, on 05/28/2008, -0/+8Actually it was rated highly, just no one bought it.
- championchap, on 05/29/2008, -0/+1They probably would have had they known of its existence.
- sgxyay, on 05/28/2008, -0/+8Actually it was rated highly, just no one bought it.
- skibum357, on 05/28/2008, -0/+16the first game was great, The soundtrack was aswome too. If i remember correctally. It was released fro free on the publisher's site.
- Purkake, on 05/28/2008, -2/+6Available here http://www.stormeffect.com/beyond/
And also on the torrent site near you!- JudgeMonkey, on 05/29/2008, -1/+3Why does it say it was released by Nintendo?
- sgxyay, on 05/28/2008, -0/+8I loved the soundtrack myself. I and a couple friends remixed two tracks from the soundtrack into one song if you want to check it out: http://www.sgxmusic.com/music/SGX%20-%20Beyond%20G ...
- GlitchEnzo, on 05/28/2008, -0/+5That was great! It reminded me of how good the soundtrack was.
- KalZakath, on 05/28/2008, -1/+2I agree ace work on that; thanks sgxyay
- maracle2, on 05/29/2008, -1/+2Thanks for sharing the track man, i actually dl the score a few weeks ago remembering how awesome the game was, and now a seemingly imposable sequel! im so happy right now
- Purkake, on 05/28/2008, -2/+6Available here http://www.stormeffect.com/beyond/
- Kumah, on 05/28/2008, -3/+13I just had an orgasm.
- Philbert, on 05/29/2008, -0/+1Congrats
- antich, on 05/28/2008, -0/+47This is one of two games I've been waiting on sequels for. The other one is Psychonauts.
- bobthegreat1224, on 05/29/2008, -0/+1I think you might be waiting a rather long time on the second one, what with Majesco switching to the casual market primary due to the catastrophic nature of their failure with Psychonauts.
Nonetheless, I'll be waiting, too.
- bobthegreat1224, on 05/29/2008, -0/+1I think you might be waiting a rather long time on the second one, what with Majesco switching to the casual market primary due to the catastrophic nature of their failure with Psychonauts.
- bbliss17, on 05/28/2008, -6/+4great news...coming to wii?
- andyd273, on 05/28/2008, -1/+7Apparently you didn't watch the trailer... or read the article.
they haven't announced any systems yet, but with those graphics, I'm pretty sure its not a wii... - GlitchEnzo, on 05/28/2008, -0/+5Sorry, but not gonna happen. Those graphics were too good for the Wii. Besides, they have already said it's for the 360 and PS3:
http://kotaku.com/391065/beyond-good--evil-2-is-fo ... - mywhitenoise, on 05/28/2008, -8/+3You have 2 choices; either keep dreaming, or buy a real console.
- Tahiri, on 05/29/2008, -0/+1I agree with mywhitenoise, buy a real console.
- andyd273, on 05/28/2008, -1/+7Apparently you didn't watch the trailer... or read the article.
- AnOMNOMymous, on 05/28/2008, -8/+6Nietzsche is alive?
- Purkake, on 05/28/2008, -4/+1No?
- AnOMNOMymous, on 05/28/2008, -6/+2Ahh. You missed the joke, gamerfag.
- JudgeMonkey, on 05/29/2008, -1/+3I didn't miss it and I still dugg you down.
- AnOMNOMymous, on 05/28/2008, -6/+2Ahh. You missed the joke, gamerfag.
- Purkake, on 05/28/2008, -4/+1No?
- Ignitedude, on 05/28/2008, -1/+13When I saw this earlier on neogaf I seriously had to do a second take.
Brilliant news, and the trailer looks absolutely fabulous. More Jade is just what we needed XD - Hero0fTime, on 05/28/2008, -2/+6AHHHHHH OH MY GOD! *hyperventilates* I was so afraid they were never going to make a sequel!
MY DAY HAS BEEN REDEEMED! - keviniskool, on 05/28/2008, -9/+1Also, Duke Nukem Forever is coming out tomorrow.
- Purkake, on 05/28/2008, -1/+21999 called, it wants it joke back
- mywhitenoise, on 05/28/2008, -3/+12001 called, it wants its meme back.
- Purkake, on 05/28/2008, -1/+21999 called, it wants it joke back
- chookalana, on 05/28/2008, -0/+40Just make sure you buy it this time.
- Intamin, on 05/28/2008, -0/+1I bought it last time, but this one needs great sales to show that there really is truly amazing support for this franchise.
Honestly, I think this one will do much better--everyone knows the mistakes of last time and the sequel won't be allowed to slip under the radar...I hope.
- Intamin, on 05/28/2008, -0/+1I bought it last time, but this one needs great sales to show that there really is truly amazing support for this franchise.
- gavin422, on 05/28/2008, -4/+4So...how do you unlock the secret Nietzsche character?
- CrushThemTorg, on 05/29/2008, -0/+2I think you need to stare into the abyss.
- DefaultGen, on 05/28/2008, -20/+3Am I the only one who thinks BG&E was just an average game? People often praise it as this amazing underrated game, but it never came off to me as anything beyond "good."
Digg me down if you're a BG&E fanboy!- Purkake, on 05/28/2008, -0/+5Guess you are, it was Awesome with a capital A, yeah take that!
- smmakira, on 05/28/2008, -0/+5Dugg down for asking to be dugg down. I'm so tired of people saying that.
BTW Never played Beyond Good and Evil but plan to now. - christianboutin, on 05/28/2008, -2/+3I bought BG&E at 9.95 for the PC having heard only good things about it. I was really setting myself up to love this game, but somehow it lost me about a fifth of the way through. Maybe the mouse controls in the races finally destroyed it for me (Ubisoft didn't think letting me use a gamepad was a worthwhile option). But anyway, my general thoughts on BG&E now are "meh".
- DefaultGen, on 05/28/2008, -0/+2Dugg in a vain attempt to save you for having an opinion that differs from the masses :-(
- samfishercell, on 05/29/2008, -0/+2Same. I'm a huge BG&E fan (although I played it on console...I imagine the PC controls not being too great), but agree that it prob didn't strike a chord with everyone. At least you actually gave it a shot.
However, I'm also a big Nintendo fan, but get sick of people wanting to scratch my eyes out because I didn't think Smash Bros was the second coming. Not every gamer has to love every game :)
- Patori, on 05/28/2008, -3/+4Is it titled "On the Genealogy of Morality"?
- Purkake, on 05/28/2008, -2/+2Yeah man, don't know how to tell you this, but your joke sucks, badly!
- Patori, on 05/29/2008, -2/+1Eh, I'm a Nietzsche fan, sorry. That was the title of his work after Beyond Good and Evil.
STFU.
- Patori, on 05/29/2008, -2/+1Eh, I'm a Nietzsche fan, sorry. That was the title of his work after Beyond Good and Evil.
- Purkake, on 05/28/2008, -2/+2Yeah man, don't know how to tell you this, but your joke sucks, badly!
- xBreakdownx, on 05/28/2008, -3/+410 bucks says its not on the wii... i love having an xbox and ps3
- GlitchEnzo, on 05/28/2008, -0/+1Yep, you are right!
http://kotaku.com/391065/beyond-good--evil-2-is-fo ...- midriscoll09, on 05/29/2008, -1/+1I only have wii :(
- samfishercell, on 05/29/2008, -0/+2I have a Wii as well. But, the day BG&E launches I will be snagging an Xbox (if not sooner).
- midriscoll09, on 05/29/2008, -1/+1I only have wii :(
- JudgeMonkey, on 05/29/2008, -0/+2I love having a pswii60
- acdcfanbill, on 05/29/2008, -0/+3Hopefully they will put it on PC too. Thats where I played the first one, and I don't feel like buying a console for this game, however good it will probably be.
- GlitchEnzo, on 05/28/2008, -0/+1Yep, you are right!
- Kazaki, on 05/28/2008, -0/+8Next up: Shenmue 3 announced!
- Sairgem, on 05/28/2008, -0/+2I could die a happy man if this ever happened.
- uberbucket1, on 05/28/2008, -8/+1Absolutely guaranteed not to be Rick Roll: http://youtube.com/watch?v=ULgwbvj768E
- cgruber, on 05/28/2008, -1/+2It's just like a mini-mall.
- moocow1452, on 05/28/2008, -0/+1He's right, it's worse....
- Phusion, on 05/28/2008, -0/+2I played the demo of BG&E on my PC when it was released and was blown away. I couldn't get very far in the game, my patience, as it always does, ran out after I got killed a lot. Since the sequel is on the way, I just might have to re-play the first one to get a good idea of what the game is all about. After you run into those giant guys on the inside, it gets rough...
Where you go? MAMMA GO! - robocop1, on 05/28/2008, -14/+2You best be joking *****
- socketman, on 05/28/2008, -5/+3Why? I played the demo of the first one and thought it was kind of strange and boring.
Can anyone tell me why this game has a following? What have I missed?- Purkake, on 05/28/2008, -2/+4A classic with great story full of emotion and great characters you actually care about. A game with a soul - a rare sight nowadays. It didn't sell because of bad/missing advertising on the publisher's part...
And everybody who played it remembers the touching scene near the lighthouse with Woof. - noahgelman, on 05/28/2008, -0/+3Beyond Good and Evil was one of the best third party games, at least in my opinion. It didn't get a lot of attention unfortunately. I played it and it was an epic game. The graphics, controls, puzzles, fighting, it all was great. The ending left onto a sequal and I for one waited for it to come out, but it never did. I just saw it on Digg and now Im completely stoked for it. Its a great game and I suggest you play it. Easily worth the price.
- socketman, on 05/28/2008, -0/+4Ok thanks. I guess I was putoff by the taking pictures of bugs and stuff, but I might have to re-visit this and give it a better chance.
- samfishercell, on 05/29/2008, -0/+1I liked the photography aspect of it. It wasn't the main crux of the game, but just another . I really enjoyed the world and overall culture and sub-culture of Hyllys (MAMMAGO!) that was developed for the game, it felt "lived in," hopefully they expand upon that in the sequel. Also enjoyed the graphics, varied gameplay, story, and the characters (Carrrrrrrlson and Peters!)
- Purkake, on 05/28/2008, -2/+4A classic with great story full of emotion and great characters you actually care about. A game with a soul - a rare sight nowadays. It didn't sell because of bad/missing advertising on the publisher's part...
- footfwd, on 05/28/2008, -2/+3Why is that pig touching himself?
- snoogit, on 05/28/2008, -1/+1He likes the green hair :p
- smoothlou, on 05/28/2008, -0/+12I remember picking this up around Christmas time, and not knowing for sure if it was the game I had heard so much about online, mostly because the title was not something that really stuck out, and because the girl on the front had a camera, as opposed to humongous boobs and a machine gun. I'm glad that I picked it up, it was easily the most fun I had from a third-party on my GameCube.
- charlie55, on 05/28/2008, -0/+3the art style, story and varied gameplay of BG&E were awesome. one of the top 5 best games on gamecube. i expect it to be stunning on 360.
- MillionsLivio, on 05/28/2008, -0/+2For a second I thought title was about Nietzsche, was trying to figure out how exactly that would work. Zombie Nietzsche would be cool.
- snoogit, on 05/28/2008, -1/+2***** YES ***** YES ***** YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(From the article: "..but the Ubisoft suits aren't sure whether to move forward.")
For the love of God Ubi please move forward with this!
I remember getting this game in the bargain bin at a local Blockbuster (NEW mind you) for $10 thinking eh, a cheap $10 thrill on the Xbox, game looks like some kitschy fun. Its hands down the best game I ever played, one of the few I finished, and is the only reason I keep my original Xbox, so I can fire this puppy up anytime I want. - Intamin, on 05/28/2008, -0/+4I remember not having SM2.0 or something and this game STILL ran beautifully with full water reflections and all...it was amazing what they did with what they had.
I'm replaying this for sure when a "confirmed" release date is revealed. - Acglaphotis, on 05/28/2008, -4/+1I clicked here thinking it was about the book : (.
- samfishercell, on 05/28/2008, -0/+3SUPER stoked about this. I was a huge fan of the first one. Ancel did such a great job of combining a great adventure game, vehicles, photography, awesome characters, great "lived-in" world, and a good story into the first game.
I'm a bit worried by the whole "broken down car / desolate highway / twangy guitar" motif since I really liked the lush, organic world of the original...but it's a small complaint.
Between this, and the interesting new Prince of Persia, the future looks bright. And just think, last week I thought that between the delay of Splinter Cell 5 and the announcement of Prince Gyllenhaal, Ubi was going down in flames. I'm glad Ubisoft is pursuing this, most companies (coughEAcough) wouldn't give the world a second chance after the first one sold like it did. Hopefully they've learned a few lessons about release dates and advertising this time around.- Intamin, on 05/30/2008, -0/+1I agree wholeheartedly.
However, just because this teaser is in a desolate landscape, doesn't mean the whole game will be. :)
- Intamin, on 05/30/2008, -0/+1I agree wholeheartedly.
- ssjdagas, on 05/28/2008, -0/+1Jade is da bestest grrl evar! Really looking forward to this one, need to get the first game again.
- DolphinGL, on 05/28/2008, -0/+3I was wondering why I was sporting this raging erection all day. Now I know why.
- JorgeGT, on 05/28/2008, -0/+4Propaganda! uhhh propaganda!
- CrushThemTorg, on 05/29/2008, -0/+2***** you and die. Now I need to dig out my Gamecube just so I can get that song out of my head.
