Batman: Arkham Asylum In Pictures

kotaku.com — Screenshots of the new Eidos Batman game Batman: Arkham Asylum showed up on developer Rocksteady Games website, only to be taken down relatively quickly. Not quickly enough, apparently, as NeoGAF member Endless managed to collect the whole set, which we now present for your viewing pleasure.

        Indeed. On the subject though, I'd personally be happy if I never see the Joker done in the way he was in The Dark Knight movie. The way the character was portrayed by Nolan, and acted out by Ledger, to me, is just so amazing that I want it to stand alone.

      • Elranzer, on 08/16/2008, -0/+1Except this game is NTO a follow-up to The Dark Knight. It's a graphic novel that was written long BEFORE even Batman Begins was in theatres.
    • Elranzer, on 08/16/2008, -0/+3This is a story by Paul Dini, who use to be a writer for Batman: The Animated Series (as well as Superman Animated, Batman Beyond and even Tiny Toon Adventures). After TAS was off the air and Dini was hired from WB to DC as a comic writer, the comics re-absorbed The Animated Series as the new canon (Harley Quinn, who was written for the show, is now a comic character). The Animated Series and its evolutionary descendants are the current canon Batman.

      Movies from Nolan and Burton are just spin-offs. That means Nicholson's and Ledger's Jokers are not the real/canon Joker and should not be used in non-movie related Batman projects. This means Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill are the only true voices of these characters.

  • Blasphemous88, on 08/16/2008, -1/+8Wow, what a fantastic looking game. It made me realize how up until now, all DC comics video games have all ended up pretty bland. I'm glad they're not building off of the movie with this in terms of the costumes, design, character appearances, etc. Just Batman and the Joker the way they ought to be interpretted and similar to the way the comic is drawn.

    Batman: The Last Arkham,
    Arkham Asylum: Living hell,
    and Arkham Asylum: A Serious House on Serious Earth

    and it looks like it's kinda based on that art direction, but it'd be almost cooler to see them use the dark knight's updated joker design and darker theme. the current one looks a little goofy with the super buff clown thuggs and such.

Although the armor suit in the new series is infinitely better than the rubber nipples and cod piece outfit of the Tim Burton era flicks (Keaton, Kilmer, Clooney).

    It looks generic as hell. That it looks like Chronicles of Riddick escape from butcher bay, isn't a ***** good thing; that wasn't a batman game. Batman is based on comics, how the ***** does lazily applying realistic textures do it justice?

I like creepy games and I'm rather surprised my next fill of one could be a batman game, of all things. I don't care if it drops it's pants and pees in the Batman franchise's mouth, it can still be good to me for what it is.
