- MasterPlayer, on 01/12/2008, -4/+254Wow, first Rich Gallup, then Jeff Gerstmann, then Tim Tracy, then Frank Provo and now Alex Navarro? Gamespot is dead. Let's just hope the people that left start their own site, because I know I'd visit it everyday.
- mrfreeziexp, on 01/12/2008, -0/+134Alex was the last personality worth watching on GameSpot. I'd say Gamespot is dead and rightfully so.
- EvanVolm, on 01/12/2008, -0/+96Gotta love the ripple effect. Glad they're standing up for themselves.
- conkers209, on 01/12/2008, -0/+90Here is an idea for Revision 3 to do, create a gaming show using all the guys that left GameSpot. Now that will be a popular show.
- darkchild82, on 01/12/2008, -0/+63Awww C'MON !!! Alex ?! man, he was another fan favourite ! I hope they all start another website together.
- offspring06, on 01/12/2008, -0/+56Gamespot really ***** themselves up. I wasn't a Jeff fan but what they did was wrong.
- zydar, on 01/12/2008, -0/+50It was only a matter of time. Now if only Ryan Davis and Brad Shoemaker would follow suit, the Gamespot we all knew would well and truly be dead.
- t2t2, on 01/12/2008, -1/+37They're probably gonna use their blogs:
Jeff Gerstmann: http://blog.jeffgerstmann.net/
Rich Gallup: http://www.doofycrap.com/blog/
Alex Navarro: http://www.theheadofalfredogarcia.com/
Ryan Davis (You may never know...): http://www.arrowpointingdown.com/blog/ - inactive, on 01/12/2008, -2/+38***** eidos, ***** cnet and gamespot, i can't believe the game still sold over a mil
- icarussmicarus, on 01/12/2008, -5/+37As much as I'd love this, I don't think we need another video gaming website. I'd personally prefer if they were hired by an existing established video gaming website.
- gmprunner, on 01/12/2008, -2/+28The whole point of a review is to help you decide which games to get BEFORE you get them. The argument you're making is completely missing that point.
- 3237, on 01/12/2008, -0/+25Don't forget Greg Kasavin. Gamespot's former editor in chief.
- chicken101, on 01/12/2008, -0/+20The Big Rigs review was my all-time favorite thing from gamespot. Sad to see the website go down hill.
- NintendoJoe, on 01/12/2008, -1/+14Sounds like Ron Paul....
- pk7677, on 01/12/2008, -2/+13Come to the dark side.... we have Jeff Gerstmann....
- TheRascalKing, on 01/12/2008, -4/+15Hahaha, I get it. Gay4, like G4. You should be a comedy writer!
What next, saying Faux News instead of Fox News? - fatwreck, on 01/12/2008, -0/+10That's what I've been thinking too. They're both based in San Francisco and having a show more dedicated videogames than TRS would be great.
- stafax, on 01/12/2008, -1/+10Gamespot is dead. No one is left but for Ryan Davis, but I bet he'll eventually change his mind and leave as well. Hopefully Navarro has a good job lined up, he was a cool reviewer and all his video reviews over bad games were hilarious.
- Charlotte_Web, on 01/12/2008, -4/+13Yes, Gamespot is dead. Where ever are they going to find young men who are so addicted to playing video games so much that they want to make a career out of it?
- Justice101, on 01/12/2008, -3/+11Games radar has potential, it just needs some decent reviewers. I think they should go there.
- muka3d, on 01/12/2008, -2/+9I wish I could digg up MasterPlayer's comment multiple times. Until then:
MasterPlayer: "Wow, first Rich Gallup, then Jeff Gerstmann, then Tim Tracy, then Frank Provo and now Alex Navarro? Gamespot is dead. Let's just hope the people that left start their own site, because I know I'd visit it everyday." - Jeffler, on 01/12/2008, -1/+8Anyone else getting the feeling Alex, Jeff, and anyone else who's leaving are working on a new site/show/something?
- inactive, on 01/12/2008, -1/+8With halfway decent grammar and writing skills who are also likable?
- raindogmx, on 01/12/2008, -0/+7I've been following Gamespot since 1998. 10 years.
I enjoyed On The Spot on occasions. Greg, Alex and Rich were a really great team in my oppinion.
I don't understand how such high paid management managed to destory GameSpot.
Darwin award in business for them. - inactive, on 08/11/2008, -0/+7Did anyone else read the "Burning Questions" features he did? He is a talented writer and a good man.
- Jeffler, on 01/13/2008, -0/+6Big Rigs!
- Macuyiko, on 01/12/2008, -0/+6That's a great idea. An alternative for 'On The Spot' with all the cool guys who left Gamespot, I'd watch it.
- EvilFerret, on 01/12/2008, -0/+5Especially as far as Hotspot and On The Spot goes. Alex was the last one with any kind of real personality.
- davesawyer, on 01/12/2008, -2/+7What are some good alternatives to GameSpot, now that it's gone down the tubes?
- PvtJenkins, on 01/12/2008, -2/+7I second the 1UP crew.. check out their podcast (1up Yours) and their video podcast (The 1up Show). Once I started checking those out, I never looked back. These guys are my new fav game news/review crew
- jagermeistr, on 01/12/2008, -1/+6Ouch- they are screwed, half the content on that site is stuff written by Navarro
- Daiken, on 01/13/2008, -0/+5Zero Punctuation
- dsmx, on 01/12/2008, -0/+5Eurogamer does very good reviews.
- SweetChinMusic, on 01/12/2008, -10/+14Reminds me of TechTV/Gay4.
- inactive, on 01/12/2008, -0/+4dude, with josh larson in charge, gamespot is the dark side.
- dawgma, on 01/12/2008, -1/+5I know Alexa is not exactly a trustowrthy source for traffic rankings.. but: http://alexa.com/data/details/traffic_details/game ...
There has been an upward trend of visitors since the controversy. And you cannot say that there is an upward trend because people are simply curious about the Kane and Lynch controversy... that was a long time ago now. In fact.. most people who visit Gamespot probably have no idea about any of the events that have gone down recently. Gamespot can just hire more people to fill the spots of those who left.. and the majority of the visitors will never know or care what happened to the old ones. Gamespot may be dead to a lot of you, personally, but I doubt it's going to blink out of existence any time soon.
On a side note... does anyone know how to get proper traffic rankings from sites without using Alexa? - TehSwordMan, on 01/12/2008, -0/+4Gamespots recent "moves" is officially making me now turn to IGN and Game Informer for my gaming news.
- 3toe, on 01/12/2008, -0/+4Holy *****, Alex? He was all they had left.
- Kier, on 01/12/2008, -0/+4I read the headline, clicked it whispering "Alex Navarro, Alex Navarro, Alex Navarro...Yay!" If anyone's seen Jeff G's "Points" video, you can probably assume that he and Alex are somewhat close. Let's hope for some good things in the future eh?
- Groovemaster, on 01/12/2008, -0/+4...and here it is for everyone's viewing pleasure. :D
http://www.gamespot.com/video/919220/6086530/big-r ...
Alex was too good for Gamespot anyway. - PawtucketPat, on 01/12/2008, -0/+4IGN, 1up, and Gametrailers are all pretty good.
- DwightSchruter, on 01/12/2008, -0/+4Gamespot is officially dead seeing as the last of the two most important personalities has left it.
What next? - sleeknerve, on 01/12/2008, -1/+4am i watching the same show as you? I think they are mostly very knowledgeable about games.
- WindBelow, on 01/12/2008, -1/+4His review of Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing was probably one of the greatest video reviews of all time...
- BugMeNot2, on 01/12/2008, -2/+5IGN is pretty decent. 1UP, I dislike, though. Their reviews are rather poor.
- Vigilo, on 01/12/2008, -1/+4Gamespots site traffic has been going consistently up so all this outrage isn't stopping visitors.
- PZoned, on 01/13/2008, -1/+4"I second the 1UP crew.. check out their podcasts (1up Yours, and GFW Radio aka 97.5 The Brodeo) and their video podcast (The 1up Show). Once I started checking those out, I never looked back. These guys are my new fav game news/review crew"
Fixed. :) - ChrisWalkr, on 01/13/2008, -0/+3Well Gertsmann was on Tekzilla.
- Daiken, on 01/13/2008, -0/+3That's actually a VERY good idea. I'd like it if they still wrote up a review as well, but I'd definitely start visiting Rev3 if they got the Gamespot journalists on there.
