- dagger89, on 10/12/2007, -2/+69As long as people read the README, nothing awful should happen... Too bad most people ignore it... Maybe it needs a new name- I'm thinking Free Porn Links Here.txt would get more reads....
- MalumEnSe, on 10/12/2007, -1/+46At the request of Noobz, here are some mirrors in case their site buckles under the strain:

And its not just Sony, or the homebrew community, but both. Sony keeps upgrading the firmware, and Dark Alex & Fanjita & the rest of the crew keep cracking it so we can actually use our PSPs to have actually fun with them. I use my PSPs every day. A PSP with 3.02OE-C, a 4gb stick, and CISOs, PS1 games, emutators, homebrew, and apps is just the neatest little personal media device out there. This thing is 3 years old and still holding its own against all the competion.
People who naysay the platform either just hate Sony because of their business practices (I can understand that), or are burnt out on the PSP because they've never run a really, really tricked out PSP with Dark Alex firmware and a decent sized mem stick (like my friend, who downgraded his to 1.5 and a 1gb stick and knew how to run homebrew, but when he saw what I was doing with mine, totally regretted selling it to me).
Anyone want to buy a video ipod? Because mine is getting chunked into the trash. It just can't touch a hacker tricked out PSP.
You go fanjita! Einstein / anarchy-tv.com - Arramol, on 10/12/2007, -0/+27"As long as people read the README, nothing awful should happen... Too bad most people ignore it... Maybe it needs a new name- I'm thinking Free Porn Links Here.txt would get more reads...."
Reminds me of a trick my high school compsci teacher pulled. She had some update program she needed everyone to run after logging in, so she created a shortcut to it labeled "Counter-strike." - MalumEnSe, on 10/12/2007, -1/+24Bah... incorrect paste. Here's the proper link for the downgrader:
http://dl.qj.net/Downgrader-for-v3.03-PSP-PSP/pg/12/fid/12431/catid/114 - theaceoffire, on 10/12/2007, -3/+26Please be cautiously happy.
- vhold, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14"You think the PSP is holding its own against the competition? lol."
Ok. http://vgcharts.org/
20 million sold? Not bad. Looks like it's doing particularly well in America. - Maltby, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13Awesome. Now everyone can have homebrew!
- JrGhoull, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14@ crq
do yourself a favor and make sure you think before you speak...hes not saying that the psp is selling better than the ds...he's saying that for him personally the psp is better than the ds. - Thater, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10I remember when they finally cracked 2.01... happiest day of my PSP owning life. I never touched my PSP until I got ScummVM on there... now I take it with me everywhere.
I heartily welcome those above 2.80 to their new lives of freedom... just be sure to heed theaceoffire and be very cautious and follow all the directions! Don't be foolish! - PathDaemon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Just use your seemingly-infinite spending ability to buy a modkit and make that shiny black piece of hotness more "grown up-looking".
- agraham208, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Then use GTA LCS, which is what you are supposed to use.
- starguy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Yes, but in a very good way.
ISO SETTINGS DATABASE IDEA: What I'd like to see, is a plugin that can update a little text file database stored on the duo card, that contains the optimal settings to run all the ISO/CISOs out there, that is specific to the game. Ie, when you start a backed up ISO game from your duo stick, it looks for an identifier string in the ISO to identify which ISO it is, check the database for which settings to use to start the game, and then runs it (thereby so you never have to reboot the PSP and change and test settings for a few finiky games). For example, by default run games as NO-UMD, unless the game specifially needs it.
MASSIVE HARDDRIVE: Also, I'd like to see someone hack that 4gb Datel harddrive, to swap out a much larger hardrive into tha unit, since now we can run a firmware that supports memory sticks bigger than 4gb. The Datel plugs in right into the mem stick slot, and for all intents and purposes appears to the psp as a mem stick. So it shouldn't be much of a chore to hack the Datel to put a good sized microdrive onto a PSP using the Datel hardware
KEYBOARD: someone found an IR keyboard that works with the PSP... it'd be cool that AFKIM and some other apps started being written to take advange of this, OR, some driver that sent computer keyboard presses across the wifi or USB connection to the PSP so the PSP recieved them instead. You could be browsing, hit alt-tab to bring up the PSP text input app on your PC, and type a reply to an Instant message running on the PSP, hit alt tab again and go back to webbrowsing.
LINUX: there's not much of a point putting LINUX on a PSP, but it'd be an intereting proof of concept, and I think the current effort is floundering. Why not grab the sources to IPOD linux, and start a fresh port from there. Such a version is already stripped down to work in such a minimililistic environment. It might make an intereting platform in the future, a PSP running linux instead of XMB. - agraham208, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7That means we get another security fix update! Here come 3.04! Can't wait.
- diggfinity, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7"Noobz have released a downgrader for ALL SONY PSPs"
Honest-to-God. I thought the submitter was referring to Sony. - Kypt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6*sigh* you kids and trying to "look" mature. I'm 24 and I'm always playing if I have time to kill in between classes w/o homework, or on breaks at work.
- dagger89, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Just install Dark_AleX's 3.03 OE-C... It's has all the features of the Sony 3.03 update, plus you can run homebrew, isos (direct from XMB), and load ANY PSX game... And yes, you will still have the browser...
- Purist, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I'm 32, and I love my PSP. Gives me a break on the way to work.
- oknothing, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5you probably need a new haircut
- tigerjk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5a very good day for anyone that owns a psp that had anything above 2.80.
come join the homebrewed goodness. - whatyousay, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5but dont "You need a copy of the unpatched GTA:Liberty City Stories UMD"---from site
- eightballx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Woooot, but we all knew this was coming after the 3.03 goofy proof-of-concept exploit, amirite?
- Firehed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Big deal. "Gandpa dies 31 times in one day - lives to tell about it." - I've got a screenie where it had 911 diggs. He later died of the irony ;)
- cypher35, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4huh?
- dagger89, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3ISO settings: At this point in time, there isn't much to do with settings.... Just choose clock speed and No-UMD or not, pretty simple, compared to the previous loaders....
Harddrive: Yea, but then you won't have the MagicGate technology- meaning PSX isos won't work on 3.03 OE-x....
Keyboard: It's possible at this time... but I think it only works with a certain homebrew application and a certain keyboard (it was just released within the past week if you're interested)
Linux: I think someone is working on a port of uClinux to the PSP... I think only the Serial port is working atm... But uClinux is the closest thing to iPodlinux, so keep your eyes out - h4mx0r, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5A real downgrader? I mean, Devhook was the emulation of a downgrader, but this... the holy grail... O_O
- docbaily, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Try using this custom firmware and see what you think. I wasn't too happy with my PSP until I started hacking it. Now that it's hacked its well worth the money.
- eightballx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3WhyNotFab, if you upgrade to 303oe-c you'll get all the homebrew goodness of 1.5, with all the features of 3.03, and more, such as playing PSX ISO's without buying them using a ps3!
- dagger89, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3YES, IT'S A SCAM!
Any google ad promising free anything is a scam... psp isos??? why its very easy... in fact most of the time you can add the two words together (psp+iso) and just add a .com and get something... in this case a non-spam site.... Catch my drift? - dumpstergames, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Not really any need for the mod chip now!
Link - http://digg.com/gaming_news/New_PSP_modchip_coming_soon - WhyNotFab, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I'm new to this, but have a 3.03 PSP I got traded to me.. After I downgrade to 1.50, what would upgrading to 3.03OE-C do? Should I do that, or stay at 1.51? If anyone would like to let me know.. I'd appreciate it. Thanks guys,
- Thorandor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Apart from your need to play your (maybe pirated) copies of non-PSP games (including SNES, NEW,MegaDrive, GBA) homebrew can also be used to people to write their own games (like PVP Pong for example), or applications like 'Map This!'
I just hope that noobz release a cleaner soon in the event that the files still residing in the memory should cause any problems - PunkRampant, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Man, I wish I could have forseen this 2 weeks ago when I traded my 2.81 PSP for my brother's 2.71 thinking it was the only way I'd ever play homebrew. Now I have to deal with the scratches he has put on his PSP over the past year.
Whatever, this is a fantastic development in any case. - brokoli, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2can't wait for the 3.04 update from sony! so I can upgrade and cry like a baby!!!!
- 0olong, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3My wife and I were waiting to get an ultrasound in the hospital, so I had my PSP with me (i'm 34) some guy was playing Brain Age on his DS and stopped playing to watch me play and ask me about the system. He says he's buying one now... "For his kid."
For some, the DS is a good system, for others it's the PSP. None of you naysayers are qualified to say which is better for any other person but yourself. I personally would never pick up a DS. I'm more inclined to download damn near every game for every gameboy on the market (except the DS) and play it on my PSP. - FreePlayPSP, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2If you install 3.03 OE-C, you lose the LocationFree player. So no, it's not *all* the features of 3.03.
- SpecEpic06, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2hey could someone post a website or reply on how to play ps1 iso's mainly FFVII (I have the original) after installing the 3.03e-C update, and what the Dark Alex firmware encompasses? thanks in advance
- kevin_qnn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2doesnt matter which region version it is i don't think. i used the japanese one and it came out fine.
- mrmcgoo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Mwhaha, I knew this was coming so last week I put up my recently acquired copy of the original LCS on ebay. Made a killing :)
- Kypt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Well then, give it away. U missed some neat games last year and hell I hear FF: Tactics is coming this year to Japan (hopefully make it to US as well). Oldie but a goodie and never got to play original :P. Plus there are many more :D
- danzel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Linux is slowly getting there on psp:
http://forums.ps2dev.org/viewtopic.php?t=7426
starguy - it would seem you don't know too much about porting linux ;) starting from ipod linux == not a good start. - PunkRampant, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Yes, and if you've got the custom 3.03 OE-C you can also play videos at full 480x272 resolution. That's another neat thing the custom firmware can unlock.
- jacenat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2now i just need an old gta:lcs ...
- mocherz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1good job homies
- FishRHuman2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This makes up for needing the PS3 to play PSOne games....
Almost. - PhantomJM, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It worked great! Time for some homebrew.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@kevin gnn
Thanks! - mentat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1No, DevHook virtualized firmwares. It ran them off of a MemoryStick instead of the internal Flash Memory. Plus, this usually only worked one way. Most of the time, no one would ever need to emulate BELOW their firmware version, and DevHook never actually emulated anything (it virtualized it)
- PSPon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I will pwn you.. sometime.. (sony) maybe when we play the game
- EnSvensk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Huh, it worked, but I can't seem to get my old network connections back, even using NetConfigBackup. Hmm.... Oh well, its a small price to pay for downgrading.
