http://www.uploadit.biz/uploads/images/emrocamariolanddesktop3oe4sg39677.jpg - killinger777, on 10/12/2007, -0/+60Mario is a fat, dirty old man? Peach looks like she wants a mustache ride.
- flippedcracker, on 10/12/2007, -4/+44@shadus: do you like the phrase "that being said"?
- RastaMahata, on 10/12/2007, -1/+33I bet that's how "mario 360" would look (according to the story of that lady asking for the mario game for the xbox 360 some time ago).
Great Pic, I just got myself a new wallpaper :) - CrispyPassion, on 10/12/2007, -4/+33More like creepy...
- bakagaigin, on 10/12/2007, -2/+24In Soviet Russia, blocks question YOU!
- Tenlow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+22Welcome to digg.
- MikeyisaFag, on 10/12/2007, -0/+19That's effing creepy. O_O
- leobaby, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17That's a princess worth saving.
- Electrox3d, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14I'd like to see this art style render yoshi. and bowser.
- rcomegys, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15Mario is supposed to be "about 26 years old", but he sure looks older in the picture. Maybe all those years of pipes and mushrooms have aged him prematurely...
- Cloud7654, on 10/12/2007, -5/+19I'd tap that.
- rm999, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11Mario: Who wants a mustache ride?
Peach: Oooh, i do! i do! - deuceswilde, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12Waste of a comment, no digg.
- Rezzy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Yeah, it's really cool - but what's up with his ***** tiny feet?
- brandonhoth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Those damn pointy Italian loafers do that to my feet, too.
- FreakyT, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9@erikf
What are you talking about?
The purpose of the painting, I gather, was to render the world of Mario in a way completely different than in the game. How, pray tell, does that make the artist "intellectually lazy?"
Idiot. - apothekari, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8That doesn't look a thing like Bob Hoskins!
- xabstract, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Artists Site:
http://www.emroca.com/ - sonicdeath, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I'm still waiting to see your rendition? Take the finger out of your ass and show me...
- Derrekito, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I am by far too lazy to type that myself, so thank you.
- AnteChronos, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6@erikf
"Dark may confer more emotion but it's unnecessary."
BREAKING NEWS: Art found to be unnecessary. Studies also show that light/dark, talented/hack has no bearing on this lack of necessity. More on this, and many other enjoyable-by-many-people-for-a-variety-of-reasons yet non-essential pastimes at 11:00. - Elranzer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6American McGee's Mario...?
- kutza, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8And I can say they're going after naive kids with their marketing of bight colors and happy things to introduce them to the negative concept of killing people because they're different (after all, goombas are simply transformed mushroom kingdom citizens), and advocating drug use (mushrooms).
Dark doesn't always designate bitter... I do a lot of dark art, listen to heavy metal and am a happy person. Dark eludes much deeper emotion and insight into what is actually going on. It provides a great amount of contrast that is visually appealing. For instance, many of my favorite photos are of cities at night, sunsets, fireworks, and chirstmas lights. Which of these is bitter?...
To me, the image appears to be capturing a feeling of serenity in a hostile environment, and isolation, which was the case in most mario games. It shows more of the support of two individuals for each other, and in case you didn't notice, the sunset is directly behind the 2 characters, showing them as being a positive light, or as a battle hardened warrior directly after battle.
Your interpretation is very shallow. - agony, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5same picture, other version:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v612/agony/1280x1024_EmrocaFlores.jpg - kigabit, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6a. Princess Toadstool is kinda hot
b. WTF is with Mario's feet? They look like old lady shoes from 80 years ago, a contrast from the Princess' modern heels. Also, I don't think those puny things would hold Mario's considerable bulk here. I think his feet would shatter if he tried to jump down. - VeganG, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Does digg have something that automatically puts the word "AWESOME" into all caps? Jesus Christ, enough already.
- AriaStar, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6@ Rezzy:
"...but what's up with his ***** tiny feet?"
Well, you know what they say about a guy with big feet, so it must go both ways. That's go to be one disappointed princess. - VANOS, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5He would do well to get some steel-toed clodhoppers with all those coins he apparently collects. If I recall from the 8 bit glory days, his feet were quite pronounced when he jumped, and accounted for a good portion of his leg. I for one am going to do absolutely nothing about it.
- therudle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3how will he squish goombas with those tiny feet?!
- Gravedigger2000, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5@ TrainwreckX
I wasn't here last year. Neither were several hundreds of thousand new Digg users. Get the ***** over it. I'm glad it made it to the top again. It warrants another look. - joshHighland, on 10/12/2007, -5/+8am i the only only that doesnt like this?
- dustko, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Let's see what you can do erikf. You raise worthwhile points about the power of subtlety but it's easy to talk the talk.
- commitone, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Yo Jose! Wow, your ***** made it to the front page of digg! Awesome piece, man. Show them your Donkey Kong piece.
- Drehmini, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3@Rezzy
I agree.. that's the only part of the drawing that I dislike. - anagoge, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Everything in that picture looks as if it's on drugs.
- superbonbon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Jose is an amazing artist in general, but I'm a bit biased. I used to get in trouble with him for ignoring our high school history teacher and instead spending our time drawing in class, plus I had a crush on him in 4th grade. I'm so glad he decided to pursue art. Take a look at some of his other work, the man has skills.
If you like the Mario painting, here's another one he did of Mario and Donkey Kong. I can't find a better photo of it than this though http://img140.imageshack.us/img140/6159/mario6nk.jpg - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I prefer this rendition:
http://img99.imageshack.us/my.php?image=supermarioxp7lj0sn7.jpg - aahpandasrun, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Old, but still good.
- mhuggins, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2nice, I haven't seen this in like 6 years
- Elranzer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"but Peach is blonde not brunette."
You're obviously too young to remember Super Mario Bros 1 - 3. - dankmess, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This is definitely old....
- NetPhantom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Here's a site with nice shots of the paintings in huge high-rez versions... perfect for wallpaper
http://www.thebbps.com/blog/2006/07/17/videogame-art-makes-great-wallpaper2/ - morningchai, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I had no idea Luigi tucked right.
- longhorn3, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3no...it honestly doesnt remind me of mario at all...too dark
- CactusChef, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I'd love to see the other Nintendo series rendered in similar universes.
- kutza, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2404'ed!
- ThankTheCheese, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2If Super Mario were ported to the PS3?
- Chinzon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Dugg for not being "What Mario would look like if he were drawn Manga-stylee"
