Video: LG Prada phone complete interface walkthrough
engadget.com — We were lucky enough to get a little more extended look at LG Prada phone than your regular hands-on, and we have to say, we were actually pleasantly surprised. The smooth, glassy surface was far more reactive to our touch inputs than we might have thought, although if this is what the iPhone experience is going to be like, we might still shy away.

- Konstantino, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9It looks great. And so I hear, you can get it free with a certain contact. Too bad the touch screen isn't what people might have wanted it to be.
- Mandeep, on 10/12/2007, -7/+4It still looks a little too thick to me. I have the LG Chocolate and even it seems a little too bulky to me at some times. The other dimensions of the Prada phone look good but I wish it were less thick.
- Alegoo92, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9The phone is very sleek. But without sounding too biased, the menu/navigation systems seem to complex or just not convenient enough to fare against the iPhone's OS X. I mean did you see what you went through just for messaging? I think it looks cluttered and seems to have little to no convenience.
- mad5, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3It is free on some contracts but £20 on others.

Are they going to be able to reach market before Apple?
And can anyone buy one? (or is it like the apple deal with only one carrier?) - mad5, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7"Are they going to reach market before Apple?"
It is shipping this week. Anyone can get one for £20 in the UK.
http://digg.com/gadgets/LG_Prada_Phone_Starts_Shipping_almost - TGMD, on 10/12/2007, -7/+4oh well Apple is screwed then..
... but knowing jobs he'll just say LG stole his idea.... - DrGamez, on 10/12/2007, -9/+3How did they steal an idea? They made a slightly clunky interface with a touchscreen. iPhone has a sleek interface with multi-touch.
- TGMD, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4They seem damn near identical
And I was mocking Jobs, as he tends to say everyone steals his idea. - bemenaker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@DrGamez, this phone was being demo'd LONG before Apple had even admitted there was an iphone, let alone show it.
- rento, on 10/12/2007, -7/+20It looks really nice and the interface is very responsive. I would rather go for this phone rather than the iphone, I have an ipod anyway ;)
- wafflez, on 10/12/2007, -9/+14honestly, I think buying a prada and a 30gb ipod is still cheaper than an iphone >_>.
- Mootabolife, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11A nice smartphone with 2gb card works well also.
- TomPlansMedia, on 10/12/2007, -6/+2@wafflez
I remember reading that the prada phone will cost the equivalent of US$700+, and that its not available in the US... - coldfusion1970, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Well according the previous digg link this phone will require a tariff costing 35 GBP per month and a 20 GBP fee. So that rounds up to 440 GBP.
- DiggingDeep, on 10/12/2007, -4/+39I asked some guy if I can use his Prada phone and he hit me with his Prada purse.
- kyoung989, on 10/12/2007, -3/+18It wasn't a purse, it was a European carry-all.
- gaiden2k5, on 10/12/2007, -6/+4@diggingdeep
dude, ur being hit on... - Mootabolife, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6Tell me about it, I still have his Prada shoe stuck up my ass.
I should probably sell it, it's worth a ton of money. - etandrib, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6It was a "man bag". Everyone is wearing them now.
- terribly1, on 10/12/2007, -2/+30The bootup screen and audio seems like something out of Resident Evil
- nofxjunkee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Yeah I wonder if the sound could be turned off. It wasn't particularly pleasant, in fact I found it slightly jarring.
- singletrack861, on 10/12/2007, -10/+8Let's see how long it takes for the iPhone fanboys to start criticizing...
- M4v3R, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10Oh man, this phone sucks big time.
;) - gregdigg, on 10/12/2007, -7/+7Let's see how long it takes for a Windows user to make an Apple fanboy comment.
- M4v3R, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10Oh man, this phone sucks big time.
- glomgold, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3it appears cingular is getting it too according to the alpha tag. looks like another cool device for the gsm family.
- singletrack861, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm actually a mac user.
- TheMarioBrutha, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Cingular isn't getting it; there's just a Cingular SIM card inserted. This phone is just European/Asian triband, and doesn't support Cingular's 850Mhz band which is used by Cingular in some rural areas. It will work on Cingular in several areas in the country, however, if imported to the USA.
- theseventhyear, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Oh man! i could listen to music and take pictures with the 2mp cam.... waaaiitt a sec I have an ipod and a 6mp cam and the same phone james bond has! see this is why i have no money. damn gadgets and their alure
- jubilee123, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2this will go perfect with my uggs
- ahawks, on 10/12/2007, -6/+6Pretty disappointing video, and pretty disappointing phone.
That was hardly a "complete interface walkthrough" The guy just goes into dialing and saving 1 contact. What else does the phone do? He didn't even mention.
Also, the number of times it didn't recognize his click is pretty disappointing. - buddhistMonkey, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14Why use a virtual NUMERIC keypad to enter TEXT when you have a full-screen touch-sensitive interface at your disposal? I know it uses T9 text input, but that's still horribly inefficient compared to a virtual QWERTY layout like the iPhone uses. Even if you put all of the characters in an alphabetically-sorted grid, that would still be better than having to push the same button three or four times to produce one letter or number.
They might as well go all the way and add a virtual rotary dial.- flibisk, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3Isn't the purpose of T9 to prevent the user from having to hit the button more than once? Still I agree, no QWERTY? and horrible touch screen that I think my Treo 650 out does! Plus, smart phone?! Doesn't look like it to me, again wld prefer my 650 to that thing (and thats not just because prada is for girlyboys)...
- buddhistMonkey, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3@flibisk: "Isn't the purpose of T9 to prevent the user from having to hit the button more than once?"
The problem with T9-style predictive behavior is that a word like "diads" will get translated into "fiber." Or you get "can" when you wanted "ban." Then you waste more button presses than you saved trying to correct the error.
- etx313, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9When are people going to understand you have to shoot PROGRESSIVE for the Web? The video is all interlaced. :/
- praveenmarkandu, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4I wanna see how the phone functions in someones hand. rather than on a table. the video is cool though
- nbcivic, on 10/12/2007, -5/+5"bleep bleep bleep bleep bleep"
turn that ***** off. - felchdonkey, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4They have one Prada phone at the Prada store in SoHo right now, which I played around with for a while this weekend.
The interface was a little slow, not too bad, but certainly not good enough for the $700 price tag. It does have a QWERTY keypad onscreen, though the small size of the touchscreen makes it kind of awkward. One thing it did do was smudge up like crazy with even a couple minutes of use.
I couldn't see what made the phone any better than your average Sony Ericsson or Nokia, except for the touchscreen and the black & white Prada theme for the interface. As an LG phone, for $99, yeah, pretty decent. $700? No way. - ELWOOD_BLUES, on 10/12/2007, -6/+2No LG phones for me now that LG has opened a factory in Iran.
My current LG phone is not what I would call a quality phone but did OK. Based on the Iran thing I decided to put my $ where my mouth is and get rid of it. My next phone will be delivered this week. - NickDinadis, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Damn I want one but for $1000 I don't think its happening soon.
Does any one know who is carrying these in Canada?
Nick - ogletree, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1It is not a unique idea. It is natural to want to make a phone like that. It is not innovative if everybody has the same idea at the same time. It is just a race to get one first.
How can they call it prada? Won't they get sued by Prada?
The problem with these kinds of phone is you can't really dial without looking at it. I need to be able to feel my number buttons. - scronide, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0"Pretty fast boot-up for a phone"
Sorry... what? I counted 20 seconds. That's a horrific boot time for a phone! To make the obvious comparison: the iPhone was demonstrated as waking within a second. - aserer511, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3so its a touch screen chocolate. that doesn't slide, same architecture
- sn00kie, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2@ TecHeavy
Thank you for not putting "IPhone Killer" as the title - nigelelliott394, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1what bothers me is that there will probably be a lot of spoiled 14 year old girls who'll get daddy to buy them it and they won't use the phone to it's full potential...the prada logo is all it needs for them.
- felchdonkey, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1The "full potential" of the phone is to make calls, play games and music, and send text messages. Oh, and take photos. How are these mythical "spoiled 14 year olds" not going to do those things?
The phone is free with a contract in Europe, and will probably be the same here soon.
This ain't no iPhone, no matter what LG wants you to believe. It's an LG Chocolate without buttons, that's all.
- felchdonkey, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1The "full potential" of the phone is to make calls, play games and music, and send text messages. Oh, and take photos. How are these mythical "spoiled 14 year olds" not going to do those things?

Boot time.... Who cares... Why turn your phone off and on so much?.. Hence the term "MOBILE" duhhh...
