In-car gadgets - less dangerous than you might think
blogs.computerworld.com — First cell phones and now GPS gadgets are blamed for causing car accidents. If a driver crashes while on a cell phone call, the cell phone caused the accident, right? If a driver follows GPS directions down an abandoned road and crashes, it's the GPS's fault, right? Well, not so fast.

- aki009, on 07/22/2008, -1/+4I don't recall seeing any uptick in accident rates over the time that cell phones and GPS units have become commonplace. It seems that the ban-cell-phone-and-GPS-while-driving hysteria of some is just the response of ignorant people, which is then exploited by those who seek their approval (read: cheap politicians). Perhaps states and countries enacting laws restricting or banning cell phone usage while driving are merely showing their general ignorance and narrow-mindedness, or the level to which their political system has sunk to.
- pgrit154, on 07/22/2008, -1/+3I absolutely hate the new law in California. I rarely talked on my phone without the headset, but sometimes it won't pair correctly and its more convenient to just use your phone. Realistically, I'm most distracted when I'm eating In-N-Out then when I'm talking on my cell or using my iPod... I don't spend as much time with them then when I am looking down at the ketchup spilling on my pant leg...
- Conspiracy20, on 07/23/2008, -0/+2Don't kid yourself, the only reason they ban it is to collect revenue. The tickets they give mount up, just like the seatbelt sham.
