- diblasio, on 06/11/2009, -13/+396Oh no! They've taken their campaign to TWITTER! Where people will surely notice and care!
- LouisCipher777, on 06/10/2009, -57/+366my god do these idiots realize how much an iPhone really costs? AT&T subsidizes the cost for new customers because they will make the money back. why the hell would they do it again before it's time to sign an new contract?
I have an iPhone on AT&T. it's the single greatest piece of technology ever made. I'm glad AT&T subsidized it, saved me $200. But I certainly don't expect them to shell out another $200 when I'm only half way through my contract. - Ingonuts, on 06/10/2009, -35/+334It's quite funny. Can't you people do math. The original phone was subsidized so they need to recover the initial loss.
- petard, on 06/11/2009, -18/+224All you whiners need to STFU. I bought my HTC FUZE on contract and guess what, when the next HTC comes to AT&T, I WILL NOT be able to get it subsidized BECAUSE I AM IN A CONTRACT! Why do you iPhone owners feel the need to be treated differently and get another subsidy 1 year into your TWO YEAR contract?
- heyimcamcook, on 06/11/2009, -3/+185I think they're forgetting to create a facebook group. Facebook groups are how you really fight for change…
- Avalontor, on 06/11/2009, -9/+128So far 4,400 twittering iPhones users are showing what ***** they really are.
- diggitalism, on 06/11/2009, -15/+110"it's the single greatest piece of technology ever made."
bold statement is bold.
granted the iPhone is nice, but calling it the greatest piece of *technology* ever made is a stretch. - Krekko, on 06/11/2009, -9/+103*Sigh*
The iPhone is just another phone. They do not do this for their other phones and such, why should it be any different for the iPhone?
That being said, Please, learn how these things work, and realize the rationale and reasoning behind this before flipping out. - inactive, on 06/11/2009, -22/+114you mean the apple fan boys are complaining about prices! this recession finally got to you guys huh? lol!
- GutterMoo, on 06/11/2009, -5/+94Contracts are contracts people, deal with it.
- keysmachine, on 06/11/2009, -5/+91ok somebody correct me if i'm wrong here.. AT&T whiners are crying about not being able to upgrade their phones ahead of time? Doesn't every cell phone company have the same upgrade policy? 2 year contract means 2 year upgrade.. i'm not seeing what the problem is here. This is business as usual people.
- TomKarpik, on 06/11/2009, -7/+79Because people on Twitter think that they're special? iPhone users are the same.
Put the two together and their obnoxiousness is unstoppable.
</iPhone User who doesn't think he's special> - Krekko, on 06/11/2009, -2/+54 I wish more people will understand how this works. People also need to quit acting like they are going to cancel their plans because of this. We all know if you care enough to make a big stink out of this in the first place you are too attached to your iPhone to completely drop it.
- damntourists, on 06/11/2009, -11/+62idiots.
- octodd, on 06/11/2009, -4/+49I would rather see at&t drop their prices on plans then about users upgrading. Comeon everyone knows every year apple is going to announce a new phone. You sign a 2-year contract for a reason.
- Rkstar, on 06/11/2009, -7/+50Why don't they complain about things are worth complaining about... like the lack of tethering or MMS?
- bat-21, on 06/11/2009, -0/+35Indoor plumbing. You don't realize how great it until you don't have it.
- sonicularulus, on 06/11/2009, -6/+40the original iPhone was not subsidized, thats why original iPhoen owners had no problem upgrading to the 3G.
People that bought the 3G got it subsidized, and for most owners, are under the 2 year contract... - TexasShiv, on 06/11/2009, -5/+38Yeah because petitions work
- petard, on 06/11/2009, -1/+34No you are all wrong. If you buy it unsubsidized it does not alter your contract. Also, if you do an early upgrade it just resets your contract to 2 years, it does not add 2 years onto what you have left.
- Digger1123, on 06/11/2009, -10/+43Don't be logical on Digg. Since the first time I read an article in the politics section I have learned that.
- inactive, on 06/11/2009, -11/+43They'll pay it, and they'll like it. Don't bother doing a ***** thing at&t, just let them sweat it out a little and they will come back. When one hipster caves, they all will. They will not succumb to being out-cooled.

"Whiners of the World: Shut Up About the iPhone 3GS' Upgrade Price"
http://i.gizmodo.com/5284318/whiners-of-the-world- ... - JoeHague, on 06/11/2009, -7/+36Dear AT&T customers who are twittering because they have to pay extra money for a new iPhone even though you just got a new one 6 months ago,
Get the ***** over yourself.
Yours Truly,
JoeHague - youareretarded, on 06/11/2009, -4/+29Because it's not a two year contract on top of what they already have, it's a two year contract starting from when the discount is given. Considering most carriers and att give new customers an $80-$150 discount on a phone in exchange for a two year contract, I can hardly see how giving a customer a $400 discount for those that are eligible or a $200 discount for those who are not eligible for a two year contract unfair!!
And with regards to "faithful" customers, there are plenty of customers who have been with att longer than iphone owners, what makes iphone owners more special? - inactive, on 06/11/2009, -2/+26But if you're an Apple fanboy and can't have the newest, shiniest gadget, life isn't worth living.
- Digger1123, on 06/11/2009, -2/+25Apple doesn't give the iPhone to AT&T for free. Apple sells it to AT&T for the $399 and $499 un-subsidized prices that everyone else has to pay. What you don't get it that businesses are supposed to make money, and giving away an iPhone for $200 when it cost $175 to make is ***** business practice.
- Digger1123, on 06/11/2009, -1/+21I think it is a matter of a loud minority. I have an iPhone 3G, and as much as I would love it if AT&T would give me a 3G[S] for $200, but I know that they are in the business to make money, and they can't be subsiding phone halfway through the contract to make money.
- fireashes, on 06/11/2009, -3/+22BREAKING NEWS.
AT&T has the same contract as every other phone carrier. Get a contract for two years to get the phone for a discounted price.
</sarcasm>
I dont understand why are the people with iphone so mad. This is the common practise in all the carriers. Why are people angry with AT&T only and not all other carriers like sprint, verison or t-mobile. They all have the similar contract. - geeko, on 06/11/2009, -5/+23I am so tired of people whining every time a new iPhone comes out that they can't get their grubby hands on because they're in a contract. OF COURSE the 3GS costs more if you're in a contract already! YOU'RE IN A CONTRACT! You can't get out of a contract without paying extra! That's the way it works! You agreed to that when you bought your first iPhone!
- tomarocco, on 06/11/2009, -4/+22Refrigeration and the automobile trump the iPhone.
- banshee90, on 06/11/2009, -4/+21+1 sir
- ThaDRD, on 06/11/2009, -10/+27Why did Steve Jobs pick AT&T? (by comedian Jim Norton)
http://iphowned.ytmnd.com/ - sonicularulus, on 06/11/2009, -1/+16it may cost $172 to make in parts, but it doesnt account for other items such as the people Apple needed to pay to design the phone, code the software, shipping, packaging, transportation/shipping, etc.
- PhoenixAvatar2, on 06/11/2009, -0/+15AT&T won't support it for a while. That's what he's referring to.
- LJSeinfeld, on 06/11/2009, -1/+16NO. You don't have to sign anything more than a month-to-month contract with any carrier to get a phone. Just don't expect any deals. You will pay full boat for the hardware, plus "activation" fees, etc...
You can't expect a company to invest that much money to acquire a customer and not have a way to make sure that the customers don't bail early, causing them a loss on the cost of the equipment. Mobile phones, even the 'free' ones, are expensive for the carriers to purchase. - sourwood, on 06/11/2009, -3/+17The original iPhone was subsidized? That's why I payed $600 for it? Come on, it's well know that the original iPhone WAS NOT subsidized.
- ffoofighter2001, on 06/11/2009, -0/+14That $600 goes to so much more than the parts alone...be realistic.
Are the parts to make an iPhone already prefabricated somewhere and mystically put together??
NO of course not, people have to design the product, code the software, advertise for the phone, build the thing and of course make the parts. - GoatMonkey2112, on 06/11/2009, -0/+13AT&T didn't save you $200, you're paying for it over the life of the contract.
- youareretarded, on 06/11/2009, -0/+13"There is no reason they cant meet the needs of the consumer somewhere in the middle."
They are meeting you in the middle! It's just not your middle! - nickerbocker, on 06/11/2009, -1/+14AT&T doesn't set the price. Apple does.
- ffoofighter2001, on 06/11/2009, -0/+13twatter?
- inactive, on 06/11/2009, -0/+13Will the 3gs support telegraph?
- johnross1968, on 06/11/2009, -5/+18Why don't you do like most people who have brains do? If you want it , and can afford it , Then buy it. Otherwise stop the moaning and grow up.
oh boy we're signing ONLINE petitions now are we ? Where do I sign to get my free pony, I asked Santa for one when I was 7 but that fat lazy good for nothing b@st#$d didn't bring it.
Do you honestly expect AT&T to change how they do business or how much money they should make or lose because you took all that time and expended all that effort to go to a damn website and type your name. Oh sure there are people who actually WORK there. And then there are also people who take they're own hard earned money and invest it in AT&T. But screw them. They shouldn't have any rights when it comes to running their own business.
Theres a reason that being bleeding edge used to be cool.Because the kids who were bleeding edge would have to either save and save and save to get the bleeding edge equipement. Or they would have to use their smarts and skills and build it themselves as much as possible.
You wimps want $600 or $700 cell phones , and you want them brand new EVERY YEAR. BUT you dont want to actually pay for the damn things.
To sum up my feelings for all the whiners who need to whine how apple and AT&T are screwing them over on the iPhone becuase they didnt get a discount.......Choke on something vulgar and die. - rnawky, on 06/11/2009, -15/+28The greatest piece of technology ever made can't even run background apps.
Fail... - chill613, on 06/11/2009, -3/+15People getting angry over AT&T reps not knowing when the 3G-S was releasing ahead of time, complaining about buying the 3g when the 3g-s is announced...
These iPhone customers are out of their minds, you have a contract like everyone else, your contract even states that you're forced to have a iPhone Data plan... you think you guys get special treatment because its an Apple product?
Anyone who purchased the iPhone 3G between May 7th and June 8th can go in store for $100 back on the purchase to support the new pricing.. anyone within 30 days can return the iPhone 3G in for the iPhone 3G-S preorder.
What terrible treatment. - KiDMAJORA, on 06/11/2009, -2/+14No way almost 4400?! That's almost enough to be completely insignificant!
- Krekko, on 06/11/2009, -2/+14Please Bob, Tell me what makes you more special and deserving then all the other people who buy AT&T's other phones? Just because you buy an iPhone does not make you more special then the rest.
These iPhone users complaining make it seem like 1) they are going to drop their plan if it is not changed.... Which is far from the truth and 2) they deserve it just because. - BossKey, on 06/11/2009, -0/+11Whoops - I meant Gizmodo, of course...
- jsmith39, on 06/11/2009, -1/+12You don't have too. In fact since there are only like 5 new features you don't need to get the new phone at all.
I bought the 3G 12 months ago and knew the day I bought it that I wouldn't be able to get this years iPhone without paying full price for it. In a way ATT is doing me something of a favor, if I'm willing to extend my contract I can get a couple hundred off the full price of a phone.
***** people whine too much, everybody's running around thinking the world owes them something. World doesn't owe you *****, and ATT didn't even have to let you upgrade at double the cost of a new owner, they could have easily pointed to the contract you signed and told you to suck it. -
