A Photo History of LED Calculator Watches

  • nogami, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Ya, I owned one of the 80s models... (can't remember exactly which one). It had some (awful) games on it, used to play it in class... Ultimately was pretty useless, but an interesting gimick.

    I was looking for a Page 2 to continue on until current times...the watches keep getting more advanced; history just doesn't stop at the 1980s.

  • the_snitch, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I'm pretty sure that the watches that dont glow but instead have the backlight are not LED watches, but are instead *LCD* watches.

    They are not light-emitting, and LCD doesn't just mean square pixels.

      Of course, you are correct to point out that a number of these watches are LED. All those pictured from the 80's, however, are definitely LCD.

  • heptahedron, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I had a Casio CFX-40 ( http://pocketcalculatorshow.com/nerdwatch/graphics/calcwatch25.jpg ) in the late 80s. I loved that it could do hex, octal, and binary arithmetic as well as scientific functions.

      Seriously, I had the same watch... (and oddly enough no female companionship) It was an awesome calculator watch for the time; most of the other ones out there were cheap 5-function watches with cheesy buttons -- this thing was a membrane pad (that my now non-12-year-old fingers probably couldn't press, admittedly) and had a stopwatch, alarm, and all kinds of other cool stuff if memory serves.

      Too bad it wasn't water-resistant at all. :(
