- sameer768, on 06/27/2009, -0/+47''A bit later, I launched Internet Explorer''
aaaand this guy is officially a moron - AdmiralAcbar, on 06/26/2009, -2/+35I agree with everything but MicroSD. Honestly, how often do you actually take them out of your phone?
- DeskFlyer, on 06/27/2009, -2/+35"Business Laptop Speakers"
"Sadly, most of these sound systems are still too low. I can turn the volume up as high as I can, and it still sounds like the music is playing through a paper bag. I get that not all laptops are like this, but I have never been impressed with even the best of laptop sound configurations"
You're complaining about the quality of music coming from your business laptop's onboard speakers? Really?? Well, sorry dude, I don't know anyone who expected their portable biz workstation to be equipped with a sound system capable of of the audio quality of your $5,000 THX home theater system you must have at home. Use some ***** headphones while on the road, moron. You'll be amazed by the degree of misery you will spare people by doing so.
Unless you're trying to listen to your crappy library while using a modern notebook at the ATK Thiokol solid rocket booster site, you should be able to hear whatever you are trying to hear just fine, most of which is normally loud to annoy the ***** out of the rest of us who think your music sucks anyway. Since when were notebooks designed with sound as #1 priority? ***** tool.
Dude makes some halfway decent points but ends up screwing it up by coming across as an overall douche with this topic. Buried because I'm in a bad mood. - StanleyKoolPrik, on 06/27/2009, -1/+24All minor trivialities. Your column sucks balls worse than anything you name here...*****.
- Tarkaan, on 06/27/2009, -2/+24I stopped reading when I got to the part where the douchebag doesn't know how to use earbuds. PCMag used to be the ***** back in the 80's / 90's, what the hell happened? Oh, I know what happened. They started hiring monkeys for peanuts to write content for #13 on the list of technologies that can drive you crazy.
The ***** internet. - Kaegro, on 06/27/2009, -1/+16So this guy has a problem with? If he cant handle a bit of technologies, he should quit his job at PCMAG and apply at Home and Garden Weekly. Good thing this guy doenst have something serious to worry about, like a bee in his car or expired milk!
- GalacticRerun, on 06/27/2009, -0/+14So, he wishes they would ban earbud headphones so he doesn't accidentally keeping buying and using them? The *****.
- yocouchdigga, on 06/26/2009, -0/+13that's not true.
- A11YND, on 06/27/2009, -0/+12"I uninstalled Babylon and the toolbar disappeared—for a day. Now, every fourth or fifth time I launch IE, the bar is back. Worse yet, it unnervingly doesn't respond to first clicks. So I click once on the close "X" on the toolbar and nothing happens. On the third click, a box appears asking if I want to remove the Babylon toolbar. I click yes and nothing happens—until the third click."
***** idiot, that's not "uninstalling" that's closing it out for that session. Jesus Christ, you'd think he'd at least know how to uninstall a program. - inactive, on 06/27/2009, -5/+17Did Bill Gates rape your mother?
- Ghostwo, on 06/27/2009, -0/+11Most of those are technology/design issues, but the one that hit me the most is the power supply one. I think it would be nice if the IEEE came up with an open standard for tiered-voltage power adapters with standardized connectors that could be interchanged among compatible devices. Your iPhone, PSP, and digital camera could all use a 'DC9' adapter that provides 9 volts. Your router, laptop, and speakers could all be designed around a 'DC24' adapter.
"Aw crap my phone's dying. Do you have a DC9?"
"Yeah. Just take the one off my camera."
Wouldn't that be nice? Plus if you lost one, or it broke, you could buy one at walmart for $6, instead of paying $40 at a verizon store. It'll never happen though (one of the downsides of capitalism). - okayokayokay, on 06/27/2009, -1/+1213: Needlessly Multi-page Articles
- GeordieRacer, on 06/27/2009, -1/+11ringtones can just ***** off
- doug89, on 06/27/2009, -0/+10Chemistry is just applied physics.
http://www.xkcd.com/435/ - RSS14, on 06/27/2009, -0/+10It's so funny when someone's stupid ringtone rings in public and they quickly answer their cell to avoid further embarrassment because they know it makes them look like a tool.
- A11YND, on 06/27/2009, -0/+9#13 Those damn kids and how they're always on my lawn!
- LETHARGICpirate, on 06/27/2009, -0/+9I figured someone who worked for PCMag.com would have realized IE sucks.
- KibibyteBrain, on 06/27/2009, -4/+13I wouldn't call him a "technology", but AstralKnight's trolling does definitely drive me crazy.
- linuxeventually, on 06/27/2009, -3/+120. pcmag sucks
2. earbuds? Depends on your ears I suppose but seriously find some better ones then; custom earbuds can be purchased.
4. 3d is making a comeback and yes I has aways to go; there are some screens now that do 3d without glasses; and maybe he should try contact lenses, eh? I bet he complains about wearing safety goggles too.
5. Laptop batteries - expect half the advertised time and then expect half that in a few months... Get a laptop that offers charging spare batteries externally and perhaps offers a second battery in a modular bay.
6. Good cellphone cameras exist on high-end phones, if you want better phones stop buying crap phones, ever hear of "voting with your wallet"?
7. Google has had major issues due to squatters and the like. Indexed searching requires proper tagging plain and simple.
8. Microsd cards aren't that small I swap them out all the time. If you want to find something to complain about perhaps complain that devices expect them to be formatted as FAT.
9. Laptop speakers, heh. The tendency of speakers is the larger the speaker the better quality and volume.
10. It would be nice and perhaps someday. Mobile devices are slowly switching to USB and they have no excuse not to. Laptops also have no excuse - universal power bricks exist - in fact that's the whole purpose of a power brick, to regulate voltage.
11. Android was intended to standardize mobile OSes (but they butchered that - see "google branded" vs HTC), get used to a new phone, the manufacturers are trying to improve layouts not just ***** with you
12. Still using IE?! Tsk, tsk. Try Firefox, Opera or any other half decent browser. While you are at it switch to a new OS such as Linux or BSD (OSX has some ads in certain applications) - pappy97, on 06/27/2009, -1/+9What a tool, especially regarding his rant on RPTV's. Has he never heard of DLP? DLP pwns LCD and plasma in my humble opinion. DLP is the best for the richest colors. Not everyone wants a 1 inch think TV to wall mount somewhere. DLP TV's are only 10-13" thick, that's not bad. Plus the picture is amazing, "it's the mirrors."
- yocouchdigga, on 06/26/2009, -0/+8what is this "girlfriend", you speak of?
- ghatid, on 06/27/2009, -4/+12Does this guy know what he's talking about? For example, the issue about the batteries...it's just the way they are. It's not like manufacturers do it on purpose. Think of how many people would flock to a device whose battery doesn't get worse over time...it's a problem based on the physics of the battery...
- urik88, on 06/27/2009, -0/+7"HDTVs are now big enough and cheap enough for everyone."
lol. After two years in Argentina I still never found anyone with an HDTV. Not even a friend of mine that is rich. They are simply very expensive. The same applies to Israel, though it's a bit more common over there.
How can this get to the front page? It's a guy complaining about the ***** eabuds not staying in his ears!
Then he also complains about phone cameras not having image stabilizers? It's a damn phone!
Then he proceeds to complain about the size of Micro SD's ? - cyrix, on 06/27/2009, -1/+7I disagree about the earbuds. I've had several different brands of earbuds that have worked great. I have a set of JVC marshmallow earbuds that say put and give me good sound. Running or mountain biking they stay put. And they don't give me that annoying popping sound those rubber hollow cone shaped ones give.
- seeanimal, on 06/27/2009, -0/+6He writes for PcMag and uses IE and can't uninstall a toolbar. Nuff said.
- iJessicaRabbit, on 06/27/2009, -0/+613) Those talking, wall-mounted, fish
- alwaysnomadic, on 06/27/2009, -0/+6Agreed. I use a N82 and it takes great pics. I 'only' have 8GB and I'm happy and I never remove it. As for the rest, well needs to stop working in technology, maybe go live in a rainforest.
- dmcaudio, on 06/26/2009, -6/+11holy crap this guy can whine! you know what... everything has its purpose and a demographic and if you can't fit in, don't play the game.
- ThanatosST, on 06/27/2009, -0/+5I have the same problem as him, with earbuds never staying in my ears. So I bought some headphones that wrap around the ear instead. And a decent pair of circumaural headphones for my desktop. This guy is an idiot.
- jholden42, on 06/27/2009, -0/+5What a douchebag.
- Vinycard, on 06/27/2009, -0/+5Seriously! Somebody needs to quit their job at PC mag and reduce their air and food intake to 0!
- yocouchdigga, on 06/27/2009, -2/+6i lol'd
- wicki1, on 06/27/2009, -0/+4Dont Agree With the guy
- skinwill, on 06/27/2009, -0/+4i cant stand plasma or lcd I prefer my pixels to touch. i love my folded light rear projection DLP, and having true black it nice too. OH almost forgot being 1/4th the price of a plasma the same size, i can deal with it being 14in deep.
-65in mitsubishi owner - HurricaneDC, on 06/27/2009, -1/+5Let me guess, you're one of those cyclists that cut off drivers on the road and then flip them the bird when they look pissed off?
- inactive, on 06/27/2009, -0/+3noutoo, what year are you living in?
- ZeroCubed, on 06/27/2009, -3/+6Would Segways count? Because hate is not strong enough a word for the way I feel about the Segway.
My city has great jogging and biking trails. People walk, jog, bike and pretty much have a good time. Then some idiots decided that they'd try out their ***** segways on the trail. Needless to say, we now have "no segway" signs. Glorious victory. But no wait - they still plague the downtown streets! Some ***** tourist company on the most popular street has a whole fleet of segways - 20!! TWENTY segways! Even more unbelievable, at any time, you can expect at least half of them being used. I straight up and told a group of these slopokes (btw, they clog up the sidewalks) that they should get a bike and some real exercise, because pushing a button ain't gonna cut it.
I just want to push every segway into a trash compressor (one of the big ones) or the ocean, or in the way of one of those monster trucks that crush other cars. A pit of lava would be wonderful too.
I hate, detest, abhor, despise, and loathe the segway. - energyx, on 06/27/2009, -2/+5exactly. no future for 3d movies? ***** that. i saw UP in 3d yesterday and it totally worked.
- Jrr6415sun, on 06/27/2009, -0/+3I agree with laptop batteries, 3d glasses and toolbars.. the rest is pretty stupid.
- 7aji, on 06/28/2009, -0/+3hey, he works for PC magazine, the guy must know what he is doing!
/s - agarc, on 06/27/2009, -0/+2What a douche.
He must be complaining about the basic iPod earbuds, because I have a pair of Shure SE420 earbuds that sound absolutely amazing...and they stay in my ears perfectly. Then I continued reading and his baseless whining continued without end. - zeabu, on 06/27/2009, -1/+3Having problems with some (commercial) executions means you should quit your job? Why? Some of the better inventions root in the annoyance of people of how things were done before the invention.
- mgebers, on 06/27/2009, -0/+2My thoughts exactly
- Ghostwo, on 06/28/2009, -0/+2There could be different styles, a la USB. As transistor-based wave filtering becomes more prevalent (those nice feather-weight adapters are an example), it'll be easier to conform devices to specific voltage ranges (all chargers in a rating class may provide 24v, for example, to be stepped down as necessary) . Perhaps instead of basing designs on voltage, it could be based around connector size or style. It's just an idea, let the engineers figure out the rest. It's better to have 6 styles of charger than 1,500.
It would also foster greater innovation as charger design wouldn't have to be redesigned in-house for each product. Instead, charger companies would compete to make better products that fit the standards, just like video cards, tv's, and lightbulbs. Knowing that your great new design would be used by many devices instead of one or two product lines, would make them cooler, more energy efficient, and smaller. - 7aji, on 06/28/2009, -0/+2Dude, you really should write for PC Mag (sorry if it was insulting to write for them)
- geoff1210, on 06/27/2009, -0/+2aaaand boom goes the dynamite.
- zeabu, on 06/27/2009, -0/+2I agree Internet Explorer sucks.. but every new major version I check. That's how I found out about the superiority of Firefox, too.
Take nothing for given. - zeabu, on 06/27/2009, -0/+2integrate a solarpanel.. and another type of battery.
