- inactive, on 09/08/2008, -1/+45I still don't understand how a running back can survive a game let alone an entire season. It's amazing how tough these guys are.
- switchmullet, on 09/09/2008, -0/+20i dont even want to read the story.....i just clicked the digg link to digg up whoever wrote that first lol
- rocketman42, on 09/08/2008, -2/+16If they do end up adding games (which they probably will since it means more $$), they really need to add a proper disabled list. The NFL has injured reserve and... nothing (PUP is crap and doesn't count). Why doesn't the most violent (American) sport have a four or six game disabled list? If just three or four guys get mild injuries, such as the dreaded high-ankle sprain, a team has to go thin at a position or two, or start cutting guys they would like to keep. Come on Goodell, other leagues have figured this out. It's ok to take good ideas from other people to make your league better.
- rpieszak, on 09/09/2008, -1/+15I don't care what the reason is, it's not good enough. I want more football. Give it to me!
- irfanmp, on 09/08/2008, -1/+14Two more games just means that the Dolphins can now go 21-0 (while playing Madden)
- spaceman255, on 09/09/2008, -1/+10They are not adding 2 more games, they want to take 2 of the 4 preseason games they already play and making them worth something. Fans pay full price to see those games where only b and c line players play(for the most part).
- krahzee, on 09/09/2008, -0/+7Or you could just go into the settings and deselect sports from the topic customization menu.
- sabasfan8, on 09/08/2008, -3/+10They are not adding games, there making a couple preseason games into real games that count. Preseason is pointless, good players get injured during preseason and get lost for the season and those games mean nothing.
- lateralus, on 09/09/2008, -0/+6Get rid of the pre-season games and just make them private scrimmages between two teams. Get the evaluation out of the way early and with less contact.
- inactive, on 09/08/2008, -0/+6Regardless we are going to see two less exhibition games and two more regular season. Goodell has stated time and time again he is in favor of this and the incoming players union head is going to want to get off on the right foot
- dave122, on 09/09/2008, -2/+7I'd kick their asses.
/internet tough guy - 1807, on 09/09/2008, -0/+5because in real life the dolphins would probably lose to a majority of their college football counterparts.
- p51d007, on 09/09/2008, -0/+5Geez....bunch of wimps! Brody, yeah, that is an ACL...can't do much about it, but I bet some of the old 50's & 60's NFL players think today's players are a bunch of wimps...Sprained finger, I'm out for a month....
bruised shoulder, out for 3 games. Bunch of pansy wimps. Suck it up! Look what you are getting paid. - GravyTrain6, on 09/09/2008, -2/+7It saddens me that it took the 5th commenter to point it out.
- jcaino, on 09/09/2008, -3/+8Or what the 'Reply' link is for..
It is very tough on them - Jerome Betis, towards his final years, would sometimes get up in the morning and just sit at the top of the stairs because it was too painful to traverse them.
(oh, hey, did I nail the correct usage of 'to' and too'?) - WitaC, on 09/09/2008, -0/+4you know i actually like attending pre-season games because you get to see people REALLY fighting for their jobs..the b and c line is still fun to watch...cuz when a reciever drops a pass...he knows he is probably going home...the hurt in his eyes is...
its a different type of intensity...BUT....i dont care either way... - deadmoo, on 09/09/2008, -0/+4It is funny that this is sharing the front page with "Let pupils giv up spelling rules. There to hard".
- NuFadZoo, on 09/09/2008, -3/+7He's speaking TO the many injuries.
- smacksaw, on 09/09/2008, -0/+4Actually, where you said "in the hopes that it will keep dig from showing me", Digg was using it's predictive branching of the algorithm to know that you were going to drop a letter, so it recommended an article entitled "To Many Injuries" because like your and the title's "To", you are both missing a doubling of a letter. In the case of the submitter, a "oo", and in your case, a "gg".
"Too" and "digg"
It was dead-on. You must trust the algorithm. Only then will you understand it enough to defeat it and become MrBabyMan's apprentice of the Digg Sith. - inactive, on 09/09/2008, -0/+4Who the ***** cares? You get to watch more football don't you?
- athinnes, on 10/01/2009, -1/+5Great so I can watch the Bengals suck more every year.
- inactive, on 09/09/2008, -0/+4Yes he has, lots of times.
He just never had to sit out for it. Partly because he has balls of ***** steel, and partly because he was lucky enough not to break anything to important to ignore. - negatifzeo, on 09/09/2008, -1/+5All-American wonderboy and superstar gets hurt playing football, and all of a sudden people are looking at what's wrong with football. Too many games means that our favorite guys who get paid millions of dollars to play a game increases the odds that they will get hurt, waaaaaaah. It's interesting to hear an opposition argument to a seemingly all-around good idea, but it stops there.
- ickybod, on 09/09/2008, -1/+5Get rid of the bye week. As a fan it's annoying when that week comes that you can't enjoy watching your favorite team. I already have to suffer through the entire off season, must you do this to me DURING the season as well!?
- o5rob5o, on 09/09/2008, -0/+4I'm willing to withstand a few moderately serious injuries for a few million dollars a year.
- John370, on 09/09/2008, -0/+4You'll still have the 1st string players playing in 17 or 18 games, and taking game time away from the guys fighting for roster spots. As much as I LOVE football, it is a brutal sport, and feel 16 games is plenty.
- inactive, on 09/09/2008, -2/+5so many morons on digg. can't even use "too" properly
- inactive, on 09/09/2008, -0/+3Dont kid yourself. There is a world of difference between college and pro ball.
I am not saying its impossible, anything is possible in football (part of what makes it awesome). But 9 out of 10 times the terribad Dolphins would crush any team in college football. - MrMysterious, on 09/09/2008, -0/+3No *****, the exhibition is a waste of my time. I have no idea how much benefit it has for the teams even. Since by the time they start playing their 3rd string they are playing the other guy's third string as well.
- webgeek2point0, on 09/09/2008, -0/+3Whoever wrote this article title, probably should have read the other front page article on Digg: "Let pupils giv up spelling rules. There to hard."
- smacksaw, on 09/09/2008, -0/+3Never gonna happen. The injury report exists only for the oddsmakers. If it were actually the same rules for every team (I laugh to think about the Patriots) for what an injury is, it would be like admitting that the NFL is helping to promote gambling - a thing they supposedly are against.
- PrismoFillusion, on 09/09/2008, -1/+4Yes he has, he just hasn't missed starting a game because of injury.
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/football/nfl/play ... - inactive, on 09/09/2008, -0/+3Players are MUCH bigger, faster, and stronger than they ever were in the 50s. Just moving around at the speeds they move with the weight they carry puts huge stress on your joins, let alone the hits.
Most players from the 50s wouldnt last a game today. - smacksaw, on 09/09/2008, -0/+3Though that's a bit of a false analogy, as the preseason game purchases are mandatory for season ticket holders. You're confusing forced interest with genuine interest. I mean, everyone in Australia is required by law to vote, but maybe 50% of them give a ***** about doing so. At least that's been my experience, as I always make it a point to ask them about it when I meet them.
With the expanded playoffs, yes, you could end up with a sub-.500 team, but is that really so bad?
Let me toss it back to you:
Who is more undeserving: The Seahawks with their perpetual cakewalk schedule making it or a sub-.500 team making it?
Think about it. In 2007, the Seahawks made the playoffs while the Browns were shut out. The Browns, 10-6 like the Seahawks. Or let's go back to 2006. The Broncos were 9-7, like the Seahawks. They didn't make it.
Expanding the playoffs isn't going to guarantee mediocre teams make it. It's going to guarantee that good teams make it. Check the standings of the past few years. Your fears are totally unfounded. Expanding the playoffs adds MORE quality teams to the mix, not less.
And if I had my way, there would be no divisions in the playoffs. #1 plays #12, #2 plays #11, #3 plays #10, so on and so forth - regardless of division. - munkyxtc, on 09/09/2008, -0/+2I think 42 games a year is about right.
- CaptainScarlet, on 09/09/2008, -1/+3As a NFL fan, I disagree with doing away with the bye week. That is what we need more of...rest...Instead of adding games, the NFL should add more bye weeks. Which would prolong the season well into February, give players time to rest, and make more money for the NFL. It's really a win-win situation for everyone.
I do understand the desire to watch your team week in and week out. But I'd rather have my Boys beat a team with talent then beat a team with no talent. Games need to be competitive on both sides of the field. - OneLess, on 09/09/2008, -0/+2Ran up against the title character limit?
- chriso1281, on 09/09/2008, -0/+2TWO! It's TWO!
Oh, wait. I guess I didn't take third grade English, either. - TheSpook, on 09/09/2008, -2/+4Aaron Rodgers puts on his wizard hat and cape and casts +50 arthritis spell on your Brett Favre.
- trer, on 09/09/2008, -0/+2At the end of day, he still gets to go home to pork Giselle Bunchsen and shop on ebay. What a life!
- meruru, on 09/09/2008, -1/+3As long as teams continue to sell-out for preseason games they will be played in front of an audience.
I don't want an expanded playoff system. The NFL and MLB have it correct, only the very best should make the post season. I hate the NBA and NHL systems where over half the teams make the playoffs and you have teams with below .500 records in the post season. - roguepirate, on 09/09/2008, -0/+2When adding more games there might be more injuries, but after 3-5 years of playing extra games, those who are tough enough to handle the schedule will stay and those who can't will be weeded out.
- Rawkit77, on 09/09/2008, -0/+2["They're talking about cutting the preseason,'' Pittsburgh linebacker LaMarr Woodley said Sunday night. "They could cut the preseason and then just play 16 games in the regular season.''
No, I told him. The league is investigating cutting the number of preseason games to two or three, and playing 17 or 18 regular-season games.
"No, no,'' Woodley said. "Too many.'']
BOOO *****' HOOO! You make MILLIONS OF DOLLARS FOR THOSE GAMES! Go play! - inactive, on 09/09/2008, -0/+2Odd, I would add more bye weeks. Space the games out more, you can only watch so many at one time.
- jinif, on 09/09/2008, -0/+2Not adding games because of injury fears? Well if the point of the NFL is to avoid injuries, why not cut the number of games played? Why not just play 6 games a year, then even fewer players will get hurt! Hurray, problem solved.
Seriously though, this author should follow his premise to its logical conclusion to see how ridiculous it is. - Zipko, on 09/09/2008, -0/+2Anyone who ever says that an NFL team is so bad it could lose to a college team just isn't thinking. Even the very best colleges have at most a dozen NFL caliber players on their roster. So the majority of the players on the best teams in college couldn't compete with even the worst NFL team (if they could they would have made a roster after graduating). There would be way too many holes to exploit to make it a close game.
Most people who say it aren't really serious, but I have heard USC and OSU homers lately trying to arguing the case without realizing that just because they can put up 60 points on Cupcake U doesn't mean they have a shot to upset the worst of the pros. - inactive, on 09/09/2008, -0/+2I am all for adding a few extra games. They could even add more weeks to the season if they gave teams more bi-weeks, same number of games just spaced out a bit more.
