- asgardshill, on 01/05/2009, -1/+28Jerry, if you want my advice (and you haven't so far but oh well) on how best to help the Dallas Cowboys, you must hand over the keys of the entire operation to a decent general manager, burn your Rolodex in a ritual Viking funeral, then go plant petunias or take up curling in Iceland or something. Don't even think about the team - concentrate on the petunias. Pe ... tun ... iasssssss ... see the pretty petunias?
- jba68, on 01/05/2009, -0/+19Please stop digging up cowboy stories..
/cowboy fan
/bitter - jimw428, on 01/05/2009, -1/+19Jerry Jones needs to fire himself and get out of the way of success. Just look at what the "Tuna" accomplished at Miami once he got out from under Jones' thumb and went to work for an owner that lets the real football guys run the team.
- dickeywayne, on 01/05/2009, -0/+13Didn't make the playoffs.
Didn't fire the coach.
Jerry Jones owes Tom Landry yet another apology. - sirron811, on 01/05/2009, -1/+11Phillips should be the def co and Garrett needs to get run out. Shanahan or Cowher or some other no-***** guy needs to be hired for head coach if Jones is serious about winning.
- jedinate, on 01/05/2009, -0/+10How do Wade Phillips (and Norv Turner for that matter) keep getting head coaching jobs? Both are great coordinators, but lousy at the top job.
- PGPirate, on 01/05/2009, -0/+74,391 days since the Dallas Cowboys last won a postseason game.
Cowboys and Raiders need to do the same thing. Fire the top person, i.e. theirself (Jones and Davis) - YoungLiar, on 01/05/2009, -0/+6that fat bastard Phillips needs to grow a pair, when your team doesn't respect you its hard to have a winning team.
- ShoeSh1ne, on 01/05/2009, -0/+6I have to disagree. People harp on the fact that he hasn't won a play-off game. This season was #2 as the starting QB. Know how many years it took for Peyton Manning to win his first play-off game?
Six. - joltcola, on 01/05/2009, -0/+5The only thing Jerry Jones is afraid of is hiring a coach that will speak up for himself. He only likes "Yes-men" coaches who he can walk all over. A Cowher or a Shanahan would never work because Jerry wouldnt be front and center.
- HamSandwich, on 01/05/2009, -0/+4Oh hell no. Al Davis may be ***** crazy now, but he knows a hell of a lot about football... look his full career up on Wikipedia.
Jerry Jones has and always will be clueless. - inactive, on 01/05/2009, -0/+3Fire big softy and hire Shanahan.
- brettg102, on 01/05/2009, -0/+3Jerry Jones a poor owner? What about Mike Brown? You Cowboy guys can go to hell, I have to deal with the Bungles.
- bblande, on 01/05/2009, -1/+4How about Phillips growing a pair and acknowledging that Tony Romo is an average quarterback at best and getting Jones to draft a new one or get one through free agency?
- ShugNinx21, on 01/05/2009, -0/+3They won 2 super bowls with Jimmy Johnson, who at the time had full control of the team.
Then Jerry started his meddling, and Johnson said either stop it or I'm out of here. We know what happened.
Switzer was able to pull out 1 more Super Bowl out of what was left from Jimmy's team, which was a damn fine team.
After that you don't have much, then you bring on Parcells and it gets better. But Jones can't stop his meddling and Parcells says, OK I'm out too.
Then more crap.... - Neiby, on 01/05/2009, -0/+2Jones needs to fire Phillips and hire Shanahan.
- jedinate, on 01/05/2009, -0/+2Just because an 8-8 team squeaks into the playoffs, when the other teams in the division collapse, doesn't mean the coach is any good.
- TomK, on 01/05/2009, -0/+2Phillips, also, was one tackle away from bringing the then-starving Bills to 2nd round playoffs in 2000 ('99 season). Damn you Music City Miracle! Karma, thou art a bitch ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1993_Buffalo_Bills-Ho ... ).
- PWoT, on 01/05/2009, -0/+2The article says the opposite of this headline. It's complaining about how Jones WON'T fire Phillips. They just lied in the headline to get your attention.
Please bury this. - rosco01, on 01/05/2009, -1/+3Yes, that and more Botox, too.
- rosco01, on 01/05/2009, -3/+5Nothing better than seeing the Cowboys lose, even with their stacked roster. If Jones wasn't so intent on hiring every expensive, vain douchebag around it'd be a good team. Problem is, aside from a few key standouts (like Witten), they have no heart.
http://www.theonion.com/content/news/tony_womo_out ... - inactive, on 01/05/2009, -0/+2JJ needs to figure out that Romo is way over-rated.
- sizzzzlerz, on 01/05/2009, -0/+2Ain't going to happen. Jones' ego is far too big to ever admit that he is a big part of the problem. In his mind, his micromanagement is what kept the cowboys from being like detroit.
- inactive, on 01/05/2009, -1/+3Wade did a hell of a lot better than Parcells. The owner is to blame as well. He's the GM, no one gets a contract without him and what has he done? He's signed the biggest bunch of NFL clowns that drop touch down and first down passes.
Not to mention Romo... He was actually doing pretty good until he started to get Bam Margera's sloppy seconds with Jessica Simpson.
Too many team distractions IMO. - wocheck, on 01/05/2009, -0/+2Jerry Jones needs to quit!
- ShugNinx21, on 01/05/2009, -0/+2Oh, he may hire them.
But after a couple of years when the team starts getting better, he will want to start messing with the team again thus running that good coach out of town.
Jimmy Johnson and Parcells both left because Jones just won't keep out of team affairs. He promises them full control, but then he just can't stop his meddling and it's costing his team. - AeriykTheRed, on 01/05/2009, -1/+2I thought they had a disciplinarian, but he was run out of town for a ncier coach. You know, the same guy that rebuilt the Dolphins. The Cowboys problem is they have a bunch of playmakers that WANT the ball, but not enough plays in a game to get all of them the touches they want to make them happy.
- jason210, on 01/06/2009, -0/+1Don't talk about Norv Turner. He has been handed rotten fruit and asked to run a profitable stand way to many times. San diego did well last year. And they did good this year, when L.T. Didn't ruin it for them. L.T. has been injured but out to prove something all season and Norv isn't allowed to bench him. Which means the running game suffered all season. Don't look now but LT is on the bench and they win their first playoff game against arguably the hottest team in the league. I wouldn't be surprised if they win it all.
- Nudar, on 01/05/2009, -3/+4Jerry Jones did win 3 Super Bowls without Tom Landry you know.
- crunchdigg, on 01/05/2009, -0/+1given his history, you've got to be kidding me. He did so in the past,
and had lots of loud discussions with the coach while winning. His
recent couple of quiet guys have not worked out, but Jerry hasn't quite
made the connection between the yelling matches and winning.
It's not fear. - DillingerSmooth, on 01/05/2009, -4/+5Jerry Jones is the new Al Davis.
- improllyatwork, on 01/05/2009, -0/+1If Jerry Jones does decide to fire philips its not going to be for awhile. your talking post super bowl. let jerry soak in all the frustration and embarrassment when he watches the playoffs, let alone the super bowl. 2 nfc east teams which dallas both beat, the shootout in texas against philly and a dominate win over the superbowl champs, this should have been dallas' year. problem is, there are way to many talented players on the team, which leads to a very untalented "TEAM". every play is designed to go for 6 points and not 10 yards. they have no control over anything on the offenseive side of the ball, however i do give credit to the defense this year. not alot but some.
- ncnavguy, on 01/05/2009, -0/+1More power to wad Phillips! Sure he has no say on who gets to play and the personell they acquire but hey he's getting paid millions for not having those responsibilities. He doesn't seem that stressed by the job and he doesn't need to win cuz its Dallas! Cohwer would be a prime choice and would help toughen up those crybabys, but Jerry would have to swallow alot of pride and let the coach kick out several losers (TO,Jones etc.)
- AFLunatic, on 01/05/2009, -1/+2It's not the coach. It's the terrible chemistry between each and every one of the selfish players that wear that ugly star on their jersey and that old shriveled raisin, Jerry Jones. I feel bad for Jason Witten who year after year, unselfishly sacrifices his body for a team that will NEVER win another super bowl ring under Jerry Jones ownership. Sad but true, terrible owners are a cancer in the NFL.. I'm dealing with the worst owner as a die hard Redskins fan.
- jason210, on 01/06/2009, -0/+1I'm a giants fan and I love reading cowboys articles this year.
- jason210, on 01/06/2009, -0/+1hes the owner! he needs to sell!
- inactive, on 01/05/2009, -1/+2Norv Turner, Worst Head Coach Ever...
- jason210, on 01/06/2009, -0/+1blame the QB first...
completly ignore the o-line running game and drops all around him. Good plan. - inactive, on 01/05/2009, -0/+1All owners need to do this.
- diggsupport, on 01/05/2009, -0/+1Wade Phillips has never won a playoff game as head coach. he made light of training camp as "camp cupcake". this is the NFL!! anything less than complete intensity and dedication will get you nowhere.
- jba68, on 01/05/2009, -0/+1ok... your right, you win or lose...
- bongowaxx, on 01/05/2009, -1/+2You, apparently...
- jba68, on 01/05/2009, -1/+2How do you figure that Wade did better than Parcells? Neither won a playoff game, but Parcells brought some talent back to this team.
- fedupfan, on 01/18/2009, -0/+0I am just one more fed up fan in a long, long, line. That being said, let's not forget about the sad state the Cowboys were in BEFORE Jerry Jones. A laughing stock of second rate players. Just an all around stagnent organization. Jones put together a championship team and coaching staff that no other team to date has been able to equal. This team of today though, is the most disappointing. Stacked with stars, they are the most undisciplined team I have seen. How many times has a third and short, become a third and long because Flozel Adams jumps before the snap. Or on defense, stopping a third down attempt only to see a flag thrown for illegal hands to the face or a 15 yard facemask penalty. Tony Romo is not the problem. The guy is back ther running for his life everytime he drops back. Where is this great offensive line???? Time after time I have seen Romo keep this team in position to win, and have it all fall apart because a receiver runs the wrong route, or Barber gets dropped behind the line on third and inches. Please stop me, I can go on and on. Very frustrating. I am not looking forward to next season.
- ShugNinx21, on 01/05/2009, -1/+1Other than your observations about TO the rest of your comment is completely devoid of commonsense.
Parcells > Phillips every day of the week as a head coach.
Not that wade is that bad, it's just, He's too god damn nice to be a head coach. Being too nice he doesn't get full respect or have control of the team. - inactive, on 01/05/2009, -1/+1i never said one coach was better than the other, i said that phillips fits in better with the team. if this was not true than parcells would have done better than 10-6 while he was here. im not sure what team you follow, but as some one has seen every cowboys game for the past i dont even know how many years, and some one that follows the team religiously, i can say with confidence that my post made complete sense and you dont know what the ***** you're talking about.
- MRintheKeys, on 01/06/2009, -0/+0Rod Marinelli, unfortunately, has that honor.
- MRintheKeys, on 01/06/2009, -0/+0Yeah and he still refuses to thank Jimmy Johnson for that as well.
