- jefbob, on 11/07/2008, -1/+15I care, and not just because he was such a talented athlete. Its incredibly sad that people die for seemingly no reason. It makes it even worse that its been 2 years and no one has been charged and there seem to be no leads at all.
- noelsusman, on 11/08/2008, -0/+11While I agree with Bill Cosby's quote, what you said was completely ignorant. There's only so much that a State/US Senator can do about that. Do you have any groundbreaking ideas that Obama could have implemented to fix the problem?
- jatkins679, on 11/08/2008, -1/+12Well, I wish people would pay this much attention to the murders of just Joe Blows. Yeah, we get it: he was a talented football player, a thug who apparently was starting to smarten up and grow up.
But why does his murder deserve any more attention from the cops or the press than any of the other 257 other murders in that county that year? Or any of the other murders that have occurred in the 700 days since he was murdered?
The cops SHOULDN'T be talking to the press about it. It implies that his murder is more important than the others. His murder is NOT more important.
And it isn't fair to the cops. They have a job to do and investigating murders HAS to be just and only that, a job. You can't make it your life's mission to find one guy's killer; if you did, you would quit in a week. It isn't fair to the cops that a whole family's idea of closure depends on them solving that murder. It's not fair to put that on anyone else. - GoKings, on 11/08/2008, -3/+10Two out of three comments so far have been absolutely deplorable. I'm hoping the trend doesn't continue in here, but I'm not holding my breath.
- Matt2k, on 11/08/2008, -0/+6OK so maybe I'm being overly bitter on that. But they sue the apartment complex (?), then use the money to buy a new house and .. what do they do next? Sit around and "wait for the call" while the reward stands at $20,000 in donations. It just rubs me wrong.
I feel better now, though - whatthefu, on 11/08/2008, -0/+4racism is lame
- noelsusman, on 11/08/2008, -0/+4I'm fairly certain he's just trolling.
- noelsusman, on 11/08/2008, -0/+4Sadly that is not uncommon, and it is always sad when that happens.
- stradf, on 11/08/2008, -2/+6Well they got their answer: no.
There are THOUSANDS of murder EVERY HOUR on this planet; why bother over this guy? Cause he was skilled in football (woo!)? Everyone who gets murdered was skilled in something. - Matt2k, on 11/08/2008, -1/+5> "The Patas, who were awarded a $2 million settlement for insufficient security from the insurance companies of his apartment complex in 2007, at one point hired private investigators to help find the killer."
***** you. Use that $2 million and hire a P.I.
How much have they offered as a reward?
Yeah. Thought so. - kolop1, on 11/08/2008, -3/+6I don't care. People die everyday. If I got upset about every stranger that died I would not be able to function. I also believe most people are this way. We only care about our friends and family because we know them and have made a bond with them. I don't mean to sound cold hearted, but that's the way the world works.
- sleeknerve, on 11/08/2008, -1/+4I saw this on outside the liens the other day. It was tough to see his mom crying, and she still didnt know who killed him
- cathpah, on 11/08/2008, -0/+3@ 110608
yeah...TOTALLY a great idea.
*****.
Let's see, if we cut off assistance to unmarried black women with children--first off that's racist, sexist, and parentist...not that that's a word--but moreoever that would lead to poorer families, with fewer opportunities that would thus have to turn to/depend on the streets and street life to get by, which would in turn only lead to significantly higher gang population, larger amounts of drugs being sold and used, and an even more ***** up ghetto....the place which many of these people cannot leave no matter how hard they try.
so stop being an ignorant well-off racist. I know you don't know what it's like to be poor/black/less fortunate than others, but I'd imagine if you had any idea what it would be like to be in that situation liek that, you wouldn't speak so confidently when saying such stupid and selfish *****.
and by the way....poor whites/asians/hispanics/anyone ALSO have an issue with gang violence, drugs, etc. It's an issue with poverty, not skin color.
Try not to be so damn ignorant next time you speak so assertively. - wilf_brim, on 11/09/2008, -0/+2I was hoping that this article would have had some useful investigation and some hint about why this happened. But there is nothing.
Look, getting killed as part of an act of random violence is very, very rare. Even in the U.S. When somebody is killed there is usually a reason. Jealously, money, there is almost always something. I feel badly for his family. He was, though, raised in a setting where he was taught that rules didn't apply to him. That probably had something to do with how he came to his untimely end. - inactive, on 11/09/2008, -0/+2Whoa buddy, this is Digg. Turn-a-tragic-murder-into-a-crass-opportunity-to-blame-liberals-for-everything posts belong on the forum of your local newspaper's website. That's how the internet is meant to be.
- asgardshill, on 11/08/2008, -0/+2Yeah, my bad. I'm sorry. The murder of one college football player simply slipped my mind after two years. Not that its any excuse, but it must have been the deaths of hundreds of US servicemen and the countless other murder victims in cities large and small around the US in that two years that made me lose my train of thought so unforgiveably.
Gosh, I'm such a forgetful asshat. - supermanly, on 11/08/2008, -2/+3Maybe if you read the article you'd know who he is.
- cathpah, on 11/09/2008, -0/+1@ sleazycheese
sounds like you can't read too gooood.
I didn't say cutting welfare is racist...I said "if we cut off assistance to unmarried black women with children" (which 110608 suggests), then THAT is racist.
not to delve into a whole other discussion, but if you think native americans are suffering from the problems that have, purely because of welfare then you've got some reading to do. Once again, if you look at the opportunities in the peoples environment (ghettos and reservations), there are seemingly ZERO opportunities for change or a way out of that situation....and thus addictions and crime occur.
white, black, native american, green....it's all the same, no opportunities or hope=high crime and drug abuse rates. - air360, on 01/20/2009, -0/+1haha tbombadil your funny
http://todaysceleb.blogspot.com/ - jatkins679, on 11/09/2008, -0/+1Precisely. When someone is shot, the shooter is either someone known to the victim or the victim was doing something (usually illegal) they shouldn't be doing in the first place.
Truly random violence is extremely rare in the U.S. It just doesn't happen. Especially when shot, you can pretty much make book that the shooter is somehow known to the victim. - inactive, on 11/09/2008, -0/+11,924 out of 14,831 murders in 2007 were committed by a stranger, according to the FBI. But as I'm reading it, that could include hired killers too. I agree that just random, no relationship whatsoever murders are highly rare.
More stats here: http://www.fbi.gov/ucr/cius2007/offenses/expanded_ ...
Where you can find such stats as one person in 2007 killed their brother in a love triangle homicide. I'm guessing in West Virginia. - Jeeum, on 11/08/2008, -0/+1You best be trollin', sleaze.
He didn't say reduce welfare, He said cut off to gov't assistance to blacks. - inactive, on 11/08/2008, -0/+0How is reducing welfare racist? Bill Clinton did it in his "Welfare-to-Work Program." Was that racist?
Furthermore, look at Native Americans. They get reparations and pay no taxes. They also have the highest rates of unemployment, suicide, alcoholism, etc. Do you REALLY think it's a good thing to give people something for nothing?
How about letting the local community help out? That way, the whole situation isn't completely anonymous. I.e., there's some accountability involved.
Oh, but that makes me racist, right? - sportbikepilot, on 11/08/2008, -2/+2no...
- inactive, on 11/08/2008, -0/+0Because it's Bush's fault.
- inactive, on 11/09/2008, -0/+0@cathpah
Sounds like you can't write too goooood.
Cutting off assistance to unmarried black women with children would undoubtedly be racist. I'm sure you can appreciate the ambiguity with your statement considering 73% of black children are now born out of wedlock.
Also, just so we're clear, are you suggesting that we pacify would-be criminals with welfare?
Let's replace "hope" with "job", because, let's face it, hope is not tangible. If people are out of jobs, then yes, they resort to crime. Do you think increasing taxes on half of small businesses will increase or decrease unemployment?
QED - rogue780, on 11/09/2008, -1/+1Buried because prayer has no place in Digg.
/sarcasm - TBombadil, on 11/09/2008, -1/+1i don't give a *****. I mean I do, but only in a very abstract sense, just cause hes kinda famous people are supposed to give a damn...?
- jatkins679, on 11/08/2008, -3/+2Funny, I didn't see anything written on how/if they family is getting any counseling or psychological support. Two years of living in suspense over anyone death, that isn't healthy. Catching the killer isn't going to bring them 'closure' (it's a myth anyway). And you can't live your life in suspense, hoping that someone else does something or something changes that you have no control over.
I don't think ESPN is doing them any favors by allowing them to continue to ruin their own lives. You CAN go on with life after the death of a loved one (even a violent death), it's OK to do that. - stradf, on 11/08/2008, -7/+5You got dugg down by I agree with you. Who the ***** is taht guy and why should I care? Think everyone will make me a digg front page if I get murdered?
- SuperStromboli, on 11/06/2008, -21/+13Who?
