- ghm101, on 10/12/2007, -1/+92This Dan Hinkle guy sounds like an absolute complete *****.
Picture of him in the dictionary next to the word sort of *****. - cameron074, on 10/12/2007, -3/+57He ruined the season for that whole team, including his own son. What a piece of *****.
I hope no one actually says "It's the coaches fault, etc." because that's b.s. These are kids and they worked hard and now one ***** has screwed their entire year over.
send this guy some hatemail:

I hope he gets a tumor. - kevinlw1974, on 10/12/2007, -1/+51Contrary to Jrocknyc, I hope the kid doesn't have to suffer for his father being an ass. His teammates seemed to like him. Hopefully he will see that his father is wrong. You know, this just kills me. How in the world can parents act this way? I mean, how do they justify these actions to themselves?

- halleyscomet, on 10/12/2007, -1/+35If you read the second page of the article, you learn that this jackass made his son play football instead of attending his grandmother's funeral.
And the kid helped his team win the damn game.
And then, despite going to the playoffs after the game, the jackass fired the coaches, because he didn't like the position his kid played?
I'm sure his teammates are treating him really well after being cheated out of the championships over what position the kid played. - oOLiquidNightOo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+27http://www.pbfcomics.com/archive/PBF193-Fun_Bot.gif
- xtmno3, on 10/12/2007, -1/+27Hinkle would not comment for this article. The commissioner offered to hire a new coach, but the boys would play only for Owens.
I offer a word of empathy towards the kids and a congratulations for sticking to the right people in the situation. The kid's dad is an ass, plain and simple. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+25For those looking to talk to Dan, here's a google cache with his info:

===========
Subject: Childish Behavior
Mr Hinkle,
Concerning your firing of Mr. Owens:
I see that your selfish childish behavior has no equal. What kind of example are you setting for these kids? Your childish actions make me sick, I wouldn't expect that from anyone, let alone from a league commissioner. Do us all a favor and remove yourself from any position in which you have this kind of power. Trust me, the league would be a better place without you there.
Fernando
==================== - greymaxcat, on 10/12/2007, -1/+21Jesus... imagine the pressure on his kid... Wouldn't want a prick like that for a father....
- gemlarin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+19My Email to Mr. Hinkle:
Mr. Hinkle,
You sir should be ashamed of yourself. Do you not think that your son will view your actions in the firing of the teams coach and will follow your childish examples in life? Someday sir the tides will turn on you and reap what you sow. Your unacceptable behavior caught the attention of national media and your name is now forever scorn in the minds of responsible parents and community leaders.
Own up to a shameful mistake and reverse your decision now. Let the children be children and stop living through your son.
Sincerely,
XXXXX - SpenceMasta, on 10/12/2007, -1/+18im so confused, how can a person be such a dick? everyone is against him for clearly the right reason, this makes no sense, there must be more to the story like if Dan Hinkle was molested as a child when he was put on offense on a team, its like he doesnt want his son to succeed playing offense
- q1006662, on 10/12/2007, -0/+17I sent him emails from both of my addresses, telling him I wouldn't be enrolling my son again next year.
I wish I had a son.
-Q - pathy, on 10/12/2007, -3/+18Surely that's grounds for unfair dismissal?
- Stroker, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15Definate abuse of powers in this case IMHO. Mr. Hinkle needs to apologize and step down and in that order.
The parents should hit the league in the wallet by asking for their $160 back as well for not acting on this sooner before the kids lost their chance to shine. - seattle98104, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16youth sports don't make national headlines, idiot parents do.
what's new? - senseigmg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13You must be Hinkle, considering you registered today. Otherwise, you're just a spineless prick. Some people stand for what they believe in.
- spdracerx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13pti@espn.com
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13Yup, what a piece of *****. If my dad did some crap like that when I was in peewee or junior football I would disowned him for the shame of having such a dick for a father.
Seriously, it's peewee football. It's supposed to be fun, the coaches put the players where they play best, everyone plays, and again..it's fun! - Ghost_MH, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12pti@espn.com
Who'd a thunk it??? =p
EDIT: Beaten by seconds >_ - PapaBoojum, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12@Nougat
The boy quoted is Michael Holland another player on the team. Its not Hinkle's son, Scott, who is not quoted in the article. - debuggercll, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12I thought the title said "Dumb Parents Rob Kids FOR Fun". I'm really disappointed =(
- jatlasb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11Not very easily, but I'll try.
So, all you Europeans out there, listen up:
In soccer, rugby, ice hockey, ect., the same players will do both offense and defense. Not so in american football. An american football team usually has two squads of players: offense and defense. (note: I'm leaving out special teams because it isn't relevent here) Team A's offense takes the field against Team B's defense and vice versa.
Basically what happened here is that Mr. Hinkles son was moved from the defensive squad to the offensive squad, and the guy got pissed about it.
EDIT: beaten to the punch. Sorry ya'll. - mutatron, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13Two years from now this story will be on Law & Order: Criminal Intent. Of course, there will be a murder between now and then.
- Suzilla, on 10/12/2007, -6/+17I smell a Disney movie coming outta this.
- timla, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11Well,
I think we have found the second biggest ***** out there. - tchawla, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12'League Chairman Mark Meana said yesterday: "This is disturbing, because we have 5,800 kids, 313 other teams and 22 other organizations, and usually the only thing we ever talk about is the actions of one lunatic on the sidelines or the parents who make headlines nationally for doing something stupid."'
Gee, what do you know, headlines nationally...he's right. - alcimedes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10The worst part of all of this is apparently this guy's son was a good kid, and worked really hard to do well on the team. He liked his teammates and his teammates liked him. Now because of his dad his whole team is screwed.
However, I give props to those kids. At 12 - 14 years old they said they didn't want to be in the playoffs under new coaches, they'd only play for their coach that got them through the season.
Sounds like the kids are more mature than the boss man. - Nougat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Basically, the coach didn't play the commissioner's kid *exactly* the way the commissioner wanted him to, so he (commissioner) fired the coaches.
- halleyscomet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9@bradjward
Oh, it makes perfect sense. You see, Dan Hinkle values the vicarious life he lives through his son more than the son;s actual life.
There are a lot of American parents today, who live through their children. They push their kids as hard as they can to force them to be the "best" at everything. These kids are pushed to excel at whatever the parent thinks they should be excelling at. The parent them comes to define their own pathetic life through the accomplishments of their children.
Dan Hinkle doesn't really care about his son, except as a means of showing off what a great person he has, because of how great his son is.
He's a cold , heartless bastard who uses people and sees them as nothing but things to be used for his own purposes. As far as he was concerned, the league existed to stroke his ego.
The joke will be on him though. His son will either rebel and turn away from what his father values, or he'll turn out just like his own father, which means the man will grow old alone, and end up in a cheap ass retirement home, assuming he doesn't die of a heart attack first. - bradjward, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10And how could he leave his son to play football while he went to his mom's funeral? Does that make sense to anyone?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10The guy has some serious issues. His son plays, plays well, and their team is in the playoffs?
What an assclown. - sinurgy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10He definitely sounds like an ***** and if I was the dad of one of those boys on that team, I'd have absolutely no qualms popping him one in the jaw!
I know...probably not the smartest or most responsible reaction but people like that make the world a crappy place and I have no tolerance for them whatsoever! - ricree, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9In American football, when possession changes the teams can swap out as many players as they like, so there is a distinct offense and defensive group, although some players will be in both groups. The commissioner of the league wanted his son to always be in on defense, but in the one game the coach decided that he would be more effective in an offensive position instead.
- mizuhri, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Well the commissioner better hope that his son will even get to play next season. The way he acted will be grounds for his dismissal. Of course they will let his son play but after he gets fired he won’t let him play because he is a dick.
- tsf5000, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8What a ***** douche.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Good idea. This should DEFINATELY be on PTI.
- Jolene, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Seems like a conflict of interest to have your child on a sports team that you are the commissioner of...
I remember when I was young and in youth sports teams, the coaches always had sons within the teams and they always got the most opportunity to do well. Just always seemed to me that they should have to be disconnected so everyone is treated equally. - grooviekenn, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7What a Douche Bag!
- ilovemusic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I sent him a very "nice" email. I played hockey for many years, and coaches/league owners that are jackasses turn kids into jackasses later in life. I hope this kid gets saved.
- NICU, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8I can't believe someone could be that stupid and obsessive, but I guess it is possible.
- geronimo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6All of the commissioners friends and acquaintances now know what an ass he is if they didn't know already. He'll get fired, he'll lose friends, he'll be an outcast and he'll get what is coming to him. As someone else said, these things always work themselves out. He thought he could be an ass and no one would find out, well now the world knows thanks to the internet. Good job ass hat, good luck finding friends.
- halleyscomet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6@DevilsAdv0cate
With a user name like that, it must be a HOOT when you post in the political forums. - mphil14, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Anybody know the email address for PTI? They'd rail this guy.
- shertzerj, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Sent a brief email to him. I hope not too many people send him flaming hate mail (well, maybe a couple would be nice); I think a calm, intelligent message goes a lot farther in situations like these.
- caryw, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7I run a local (Fairfax County) message board and there's a thread for this. Including his arrest record!
