- BowZzer, on 10/31/2007, -19/+221Of course they ran up the score. But its not incumbent on any NFL team to play "classy" football. If the 'Skins don't like it, they should try to suck less.
- ForlornHope, on 10/30/2007, -9/+84You're right. The 'minimum wage' in the NFL is $285,000 per year for a rookie, and it goes up with experience: http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_is_the_league_minim ...
They're highly paid professionals and need to stop whining. You got beat, do better.
Next up: Sony accuses Nintendo of 'running up' the Wii sales, even though they're way ahead. So unfair.... - witcompe, on 10/31/2007, -10/+67If the Pats wanted to run up the score, they would have left Brady (and other starters) in the entire game. Redskins just pale in comparison to the Patriots... that and only that is the reason why the score was so high.
- VMark, on 10/31/2007, -4/+584th and 3 and they ran up the middle with a fullback. If you can't even stop this you have no business to complain about running up the score.
- andtank91, on 10/31/2007, -5/+55This is football, stop crying just because your team sucks.
- JD52, on 10/31/2007, -8/+55Enough crying like a pop warner team. These men are payed to score points, kick your offense's ass, and win games. That's it. If you don't like it do something about it (other than run your mouth).
- DrunkMc, on 11/02/2007, -8/+48Bellichick has been accused of cheating and people have claimed it has helped him win Superbowls. That is a huge mark against a franchise, he is going out and showing what happens when the Patriots play.
If the Redskins thought it was so mean, they should go play ***** Tennis. This is professional football, they are paid millions to show their best every week. The Patriots brought their best, the Redskins didn't. - Ajajadude, on 11/02/2007, -2/+38This is what happens when you piss a team off like the Patriots. Want to try and make a huge deal out of the "cheating" that every team tries to do? You've just earned the entire league a massive beatdown. Congratulations.
- ravens32681, on 10/30/2007, -2/+34This is the NFL. If a team allows that many points to be scored against them, they deserved to be embarrassed. I guess no one remembers the Jacksonville vs. Miami playoff game a few years back when the Jags steam rolled Miami 62-7. No one cried then about running up the score and that was the playoffs. Dan Snyder needs to understand that he is an idiot and he ruined the Redskins, and what better way to show that to him by flattening the Skins.
- 46reasons, on 10/31/2007, -4/+35Eh, players need stats to go to the pro bowl, get 8 figure multi-year contracts, and win awards. Teams need to produce high-scoring games and excitement to increase fan base. Can you honestly blame them, even if they were running up the score?
Sounds like the Washington linebacker is just a sore loser if you ask me. - tekkou, on 10/31/2007, -5/+34Somebody better call the waaaambulance.
- deadsQuerl, on 10/31/2007, -4/+32Um, backups were put in. Quit your bitching, learn to defend. Patriots have a big game against the Colts coming up, they have every excuse to keep working their plays.
- J3553, on 10/31/2007, -1/+26i'll start by saying i'm a big redskins fan. i don't need your pitty.
the pats have every right to score as many points as they possibly can. it's not disrespectful, it's playing football. maybe the skins should show some respect to their fans by playing better and getting their ***** together. maybe joe gibbs should stop being a ***** coach and start motivating his players and hold his players and staff accountable when they ***** up. no more of this "i'm so proud of our guys... they fought their guts out". how the hell did this guy win three rings? - inactive, on 10/30/2007, -34/+59Yelling at Belichick to show some class is like me yelling at my dog to learn to fly.
- richmessenger, on 10/30/2007, -4/+27Good coaches don't care about class, they care about winning. To me it is far less classy to bitch about how bad another team beat you.
- zioxide, on 10/30/2007, -2/+25Maybe the Redskins should have tried to play some defense instead of bitching.
- bigbadgoat, on 10/31/2007, -1/+23I think they did show them the respect by trying to score every single drive. They treated them like a professional football team, and gave it their best shot every time they broke out of a huddle. If anyone doesn't have respect, its whoever put together the Redskins and actually thought they could compete against a real football team. If I were part of the Redskins organization, I'd be embarrased about about how non-competitive the team is, not blame the other team by showcasing how bad you are.
The patriots never taunted them, or show-boated, they went out and played the game. Not their problem if you can't stop them. - 5Twelve, on 10/30/2007, -1/+23I can't stand the Pats but hey, if the Redskins don't like it they should have played a little harder.
- zioxide, on 10/30/2007, -5/+25The ***** second team offense and backup qb were in. The Redskins should have stopped them.
- rootnik, on 10/30/2007, -1/+19So there IS crying in football...
Godfrey,
You are a linebacker. If you don't like the other team throwing deep, do something about it. It takes time to find an open reciever down field. Quit crying about it, rush the QB and stop the play. - qniverse, on 10/30/2007, -1/+19People were piling on the pats during the way overblown spygate deal...and so now the pats are piling it on their opponents on the field (where it counts) and these guys can't handle it and all i hear is whining.
What do you expect the pats to do? Just keep going three and out to give back the ball to you the opponents? Don't play for 30 mins? These whiners are all idiots. - CraigB12, on 10/30/2007, -6/+23Oh stop crying. Like they said up there, this is PROFESSIONAL football. Everyone is governed by the same cap, and if you suck its your organizations fault. That being said, I'm happy they're doing this. At the beginning of the year everyone was saying, "They can't win without cheating." Well, and I'm not even a Pats fan, now they're not only going to beat everyone that said that, they're going to blow them out.
- Campog, on 10/30/2007, -2/+19Somebodies a little cranky!
- ruded0g, on 10/30/2007, -3/+18I guess the NFL should add a new rule to the hand book:
"If one team has a score of 35 points or more by the half, and the other team has yet to scored any points, the game is then called and the team with zero points looses".
I guess that would make more sense then "running up the score". - NManX, on 10/30/2007, -1/+16http://photos.digitalrave.net/images/5426Gibbs.jpg
- unorginalityftw, on 10/30/2007, -2/+17I'd find it more insulting if they decided to play nicely, much rather be run into the ground and have the team try hard against you than treat you like nothing. Losing that way has more respect than freebies ever will.
- iTorrey, on 10/30/2007, -0/+12Yeah and let's not forget that things can change drastically in minutes. Look at the Jets vs Miami game from a few years ago. Jets down 30-7 in the third and they pull off a miracle and come back to win it in OT 40-37.
Offense is out there to do what? Score points and manage the clock. They did both very well. If the other team isn't stopping you from moving the ball should you just stop your self? That's just plain stupid. This is professional football not Pop Warner. I can't believe anyone would get upset at players for doing their job.
Also it should be noted that one score later in the game was by the DEFENSE after Vrabled stripped the Redskins QB for the third time. Should the defense have just let the skins recover it instead of picking it up and scoring?
And going for it late in the game on 4th down when you were already up, it's called game time practice. They obviously wanted to work on some things and you only get to do that properly in a game setting. You can run stuff all day in practice against the 2nd string defense but it's all different in a game. So they went for it. - ProxyContin, on 10/30/2007, -6/+18That's exactly why right there. Bunch of crybabies talking about "cheating". They didn't do anything other teams haven't done except they got called on it. They can't stop the Pats on the field so they try to tear 'em down with a scandal. So you know what? Videotape or no videotape they'll kick the snot out of you every Sunday. So put up or shut up.
- NightOwl4, on 10/31/2007, -3/+14This is a professional sport! These men get PAID to win....IF YOUR NOT GOOD....GET GOOD....if you lose by 50 points your team just sucks....STEP YOUR GAME UP!
- NeoNightmareX, on 10/30/2007, -0/+9If it's professional football, then the Redskins should play like professionals
- UrinalPooper, on 10/30/2007, -1/+9Isn't scoring points the goal (pun intended) of these televised sporting events with which you creatures are so enamored?
I actually like seeing sports updates on the front page because it keeps me informed about a topic I normally don't pay much attention to, however, an article about someone being lambasted because their team scored TOO MANY points? For shame. - Ajajadude, on 10/30/2007, -2/+10Well, you might as well practice your 4th down conversion plays when you've got the Colts to play next week. As a Pats fan, I kind've scratched my head when they did that, but I didn't think it was that big of a deal. It's like you and everyone else who's thinking straight has been saying: if the 'Skins didn't like it, they should've stopped the Pats.
- fluxion, on 10/30/2007, -3/+11exactly, think of it as a lesson for the redskin to not suck so bad next time. if they were nice about it the redskins might've been mislead into thinking they actually played a decent game.
- pinchduck, on 10/30/2007, -0/+8The Redskins pay a LOT of money to 22 starting players, several coaches, and a host of support staff to prevent a route like that. Now it's Bill Belichick's fault that they spent their money poorly?
Oddly enough, Bill Belichick is paid to not only prevent his team from getting routed like that, but to also do that to other teams.
If you have an issue with the Patriots scoring so many points, I suggest you talk to the Washington defense line and staff. They were the ones in charge of protecting their endzone, not Belichick. - quarkie, on 10/30/2007, -4/+12Its called sending a message to the other teams in the league. And guess what: its working. Ask any player who the best team in the league is.
Once you start having teams doubt their own abilities in comparison to yours, it because that much easier to win.
Other teams are just mad that they can't do as well as the Pats. - sugarazor, on 10/30/2007, -2/+9"Maybe Brady will get hurt soon and true NFL fans can start to enjoy the sport again."
Now that's class! - Robbothehood, on 10/30/2007, -1/+8Hey, tennis players try hard too. Perhaps the Redskins should try a junior house-league team?
- Memitim, on 10/30/2007, -0/+7Exactly. Passing up the opportunity to safely practice a seldom used strategy in a real game setting is just foolish. They didn't need the three points.
- uptown, on 11/02/2007, -1/+8Check the Redskins' paychecks..... I'm pretty sure they still won.
- glind, on 10/30/2007, -0/+7But what's worse going for it on fourth down, or kicking the field goal and taking the sure points when you don't need them. If you ask me it's classier to give the Defense a legit chance at stopping you, rather then just going for the easy 3.
- sugarazor, on 10/31/2007, -1/+8I hate the Patriots, they demolished my beloved Bengals and put the first nail in the coffin of their season. But with that said... this even being an issue is laughable. The Redskins got their asses handed to them, that's pretty much the entire story. The Patriots weren't classless, they weren't trying to embarrass anyone, the Redskins just played horribly and Washington fans have no one to be mad at accept their team. The Pats are an amazing team, but any team can beat any team on any given Sunday - the Redskins had all the tools to win that game, but the Patriots used their's even better, end of story.
The story here is that people want to hate good teams, no matter what the sport. If the score were reversed, people would be running around jumping for joy and acting like it was a great sports miracle. Seriously, people take this stuff way too seriously, it's a friggin game. - 46reasons, on 10/30/2007, -0/+7I couldn't edit my comment in time... but also, no lead is safe from a comeback:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Monday_Night_Mira ... - ch0p57ickz, on 10/30/2007, -3/+9these guys are adults.. they're making millions of dollars even if they lose big. if Bilichick wants to run up the score then make him pay for it. Stop whining.
- quarkie, on 10/30/2007, -0/+6And if I were the redskins I would have loved the pats to just spike the ball. Now thats showing class.
Playing to the best of your ability is never disrespectful to your opponents. PERIOD. - glind, on 10/30/2007, -2/+8Actually at that point, is was still the first team. The next possession he put in the second team.
- thebigmatay, on 10/30/2007, -3/+9Except most people didn't think, or say, that the Pats couldn't win. They just thought the cheating was deplorable. That said, people should shut up about the Pats running up the score.
- zioxide, on 10/30/2007, -0/+6They were on the 35 yard line, too close to punt and to far for a field goal. They could have tried the field goal and scored 3 more points right there, but they went for it instead. The Redskins had one of the best defenses in the NFL. They should have just stopped them.
- inactive, on 10/30/2007, -1/+7they ran up the middle with a fullback, that is hardly an attempt at a td. In all likelyhood, they were just trying to get a turnover on downs so they wouldnt have to kick a field goal and run up the score that way. Would people have considered it unsportsmanlike if they had kicked a field goal there and gained another three points? or should they just hand the ball over to the other team with one down left and say "were sorry you suck so bad, and your gonna get angry no matter what we do here, so were just gonna give you the ball to shut you up"
- jayayeem, on 10/30/2007, -6/+12Red Sox were up 3-0 in the World Series at the time of that game. Bill had to remind Beantown who their real championship team is.
- obxjdt, on 10/30/2007, -0/+5Anyone remember week 5, Redskins vs. Detroit?
"The Redskins rebounded in style from a loss to the Giants, defeating the Detroit Lions 34-3 at FedEx Field."
As a Redskins fan, I have to say suck it up, and take it on the chin. We knew the odds were against us in that game, but it's not their fault that we played like sh!t. How do you win a game if you can't hold onto the ball, or play the zone???
The Pats' kicked our ass fair and square because we let them by not playing smart football. The 'Skins looked like a high school team out there! They need to play better so this doesn't happen again, not complain about the score.... -
