Worlds Most Expensive Tequilas
wineandalcohol.com — Premium tequila is one of the most expensive spirits on the market. Enthusiasts of the beverage often state that no other liquor has a more distinct taste based on price. Most of us will never taste the majority of tequilas on this list because for the same price we could buy a house.

- esurient1, on 12/21/2007, -0/+2The Tequila...hands down.
- indyGuy, on 12/21/2007, -0/+10Yeah, they're expensive, but only one is the cost of a HOUSE. Dugg for the good list, though.
- davidrools, on 12/21/2007, -0/+2You can't buy a 1 bedroom condo for that price here in the bay.
- gn0stik, on 12/21/2007, -0/+2Move
- davidrools, on 12/21/2007, -0/+2You can't buy a 1 bedroom condo for that price here in the bay.
- Paktu, on 12/21/2007, -0/+19The key thing to look for with any tequila is whether it is 100% blue agave. This is why Sauza ($15 for a liter) tastes dramatically better than Cuervo ($25), and why Patron ($40) is considered "ultra premium".
- glasnostic, on 12/21/2007, -2/+6Yeah price range really only means something between 10 and 100 bucks for a liter. once you start paying over 100 bucks for a liter of anything you imbibe you are just buying status symbols.
- cawpin, on 12/21/2007, -0/+2For tequila, maybe. I personally haven't bought any that expensive. However, my single malt Scotches disagree with your statement.
- jinjin, on 12/21/2007, -7/+2Sauza better than Patron? Have you ever even tasted Patron?
- glasnostic, on 12/21/2007, -0/+4sauza better then cuervo.
- jisrael, on 12/21/2007, -0/+7Sauza is better than Cuervo. Patron is ultra-premium.
reading comprehension ftw...
- cawpin, on 12/21/2007, -0/+7The only thing that sucks about Patron is that once you taste it you can't ever drink Cuervo again. Another good one, although a little more pricey, is Casa Noble. It's the best one I've had.
- salomejones, on 12/21/2007, -0/+5Patron has been a favorite of mine since I discovered it. Luckily in very large cities there are some places that specialize in the harder to find spirits by the glass, and DBA here in NYC offers three patrons for pretty reasonable prices..
- worldsbestgamer, on 12/21/2007, -0/+3Patron is good, but I find it over rated. There are comparable ones at the same price range. Tehy just don't seem to have the hype that I suddenly seeing Patron get.
Scotch is another one of varying tastes through the price ranges. But I think moderately high priced Walker Gold takes the cake, and I have had a few that go for twice as much.- esurient1, on 12/21/2007, -1/+0I have to agree. While I wouldnt call it garbage by any stretch, it isnt near as good as everybody makes it out to be. Im pretty sure we can thank rap music for that one.
Anybody that really drinks Tequila should tell you the same. While its bottle and packaging may look a little cooler than the rest, I'll take Sauza or Cuervo if my pocket book is making the call. Preferably Sauza. - BrokenCircle, on 12/21/2007, -1/+1Blended Scotch is not real Scotch do not even attempt to think you can discuss Scotch if you drink Blended Scotch.
- VAXcat, on 12/22/2007, -0/+1 Can't agree with ya there - as I spit out the only mouthful of expensive single malt Scotch I've ever had the misfortune to taste, two things occurred to me. First, I thought, now I know why they blend this stuff. Second, man, this really tastes like I've always imagined ***** would taste. My friend who gave me this ill favored shot of whiskey assured me that the ***** taste is richly prized, it's referred to as a "peaty" taste.
And when it comes to Tequilas, I;'ve sampled a lot of them while working in Mexico, and the best I've ever tasted, at any price, is Sauza Tres Generaciones, both Anejoe and Plata. The Reposada is OK, but not as good as the other two. - worldsbestgamer, on 12/24/2007, -0/+1So you are saying that 15 Scotch single malts blended together are suddenly no longer scotch because they are blended? They are all still single malts.
Thats like saying putting Motts Apple Juice and Troppicanna juice together no longer makes it apple juice.
- VAXcat, on 12/22/2007, -0/+1 Can't agree with ya there - as I spit out the only mouthful of expensive single malt Scotch I've ever had the misfortune to taste, two things occurred to me. - gn0stik, on 12/21/2007, -1/+2I've had the first three of those (10, 9, 8), And porfidio, the one with the cactus in the bottle. But it was obviously not of the same grade as the one listed because it didn't cost me 2,000 for that bottle. Lately I've been drinking AHA-TORO, which is quite good, and not too expensive.
When I spend more that 50 bucks for a bottle, it becomes a special occasion drink for me. It's not something I just do shots with my friends with. I actually yelled at my wife for making a margarita with my gran patron. That ***** is NOT mixing tequila.
- glasnostic, on 12/21/2007, -2/+6Yeah price range really only means something between 10 and 100 bucks for a liter. once you start paying over 100 bucks for a liter of anything you imbibe you are just buying status symbols.
- manicallday, on 12/21/2007, -9/+7I don't think that you need to spend this kind of money for a good tequila. I really don't see the point when it comes from one from the larger distributors. For instance I picked up a decent Anejo for $30 from an independent distributor. If you just take the time to understand the different types of tequila and Mezcals you can really find some good buys. My rule of thumb is to just stay away from the larger distributors except maybe Corazon and Herradura. The rest of the majors are just crap. Especially Patron.
- bobcrotch, on 12/21/2007, -1/+14Sorry but Patron silver is a good tequila.
- manicallday, on 12/21/2007, -10/+2It's really not. If being a lemming is your thing then cool. But, if your into drinking tequila then you know the difference.
- objectcode, on 12/21/2007, -3/+8if being a douchebag is your thing then cool
- cawpin, on 12/21/2007, -3/+6I do know the difference, you obviously don't. Patron is good stuff. Casa Noble is better.
- Takfam, on 12/21/2007, -5/+4Thanks manic. You just lent big time credibility to my theory that you're a whiny emo that thinks anything popular is conformist. Go listen to whatever indie rock band to you've downloaded this morning and start cutting yourself.
- archer104, on 12/21/2007, -0/+8Hating popular things is way too popular.
- manicallday, on 12/21/2007, -10/+2It's really not. If being a lemming is your thing then cool. But, if your into drinking tequila then you know the difference.
- dhVyse, on 12/21/2007, -0/+9Patron anything has proven to be very good to me. Mmmmm Patron...
- Takfam, on 12/21/2007, -1/+9I need to know why you think this. You list no reasons why those two brands are superior, yet you claim that Patron, a widely recognized premium tequila, is crap. Quite frankly, you sound like one of those whiners that stops listening to a band because they sold out by signing a record deal. Just because it's popular, doesn't mean it's bad.
For the record, I prefer Cazadores over Patron, but that doesn't mean Patron is crap.- Ricky8765, on 12/21/2007, -0/+5"a band because they sold out by signing a record deal. Just because it's popular, doesn't mean it's bad."
No but a lot of bands change their sound once they start getting big to appeal to a larger audience, and in turn they lose the uniqueness that once attracted their initial fans because they want to sell more albums.- Takfam, on 12/21/2007, -0/+4Fair enough, but tequila doesn't change it's taste. I just used that as an example of the parent's attitude towards Tequila. It's not like he's saying "Oh, I used to drink Patron back when they were independent."
- Ricky8765, on 12/21/2007, -0/+1Haha, I wasn't calling you out on the Tequila bit. I just wanted to clarify your analogy in case you weren't aware of the reasoning behind it.
- manicallday, on 12/21/2007, -0/+1"Fair enough, but tequila doesn't change it's taste."
What are you talking about? Yes it certainly can. Not all tequila taste the same. Such factors such as distribution demand and the supply of available quality tequila can certainly affect taste from year to year. It's the basic Price, supply and quality paradigm. You can't give all three on the same level every single year. Something has to give.
- Takfam, on 12/21/2007, -0/+4Fair enough, but tequila doesn't change it's taste. I just used that as an example of the parent's attitude towards Tequila. It's not like he's saying "Oh, I used to drink Patron back when they were independent."
- manicallday, on 12/21/2007, -1/+1Yeah but I think that I have a right to call Patron crap if I in fact think that it's crap. I judge things due to individual merits and circumstances. So if I don't like the major brands and have a reason for it so be it. I don't know why this bothers you so much. I just know that's its really hard to maintain a decent quality tequila on a large production level. Further, if you didn't read it, my comment was not blanketed. I acknowledged that there's in fact decent larger companies. In fact, if you really want to be honest, the best ***** is the unlabeled ***** you buy in Mexico for like nothing. ***** you by in a barrel from a farmer for like $10.00. So to be honest, after having that, I really don't care for any of the imported bottle tequila. It's all a rip off.
So if you really need that label to make yourself feel better then fine, Patron is awesome. It comes in a really pretty bottle and all the cool people drink it. Feel better? Wannabe label dropping spokesperson.
- Ricky8765, on 12/21/2007, -0/+5"a band because they sold out by signing a record deal. Just because it's popular, doesn't mean it's bad."
- manicallday, on 12/21/2007, -2/+1I argue that the size of an operation has everything to do with the quality of some things. Tequila is one of those things. Basically there's only so much you can do to meet demand before you start cutting corners with somethings . And Patron has hit that mark. They can afford to ride off of their brand name rather than the product itself. The difference in taste between a 1999 bottle and 2007 bottle of Patron blanco is pretty significant. It's almost two like tasting two completely different tequilas. And it's not an improvement.
Am I a dick about this? Yeah, I admit that I am. But tequila is something that I love and hopefully I will start producing one day. The good thing is that I will be just as much as a Dick when it comes to critiquing my own tequila. If it's ***** it's *****. And if I have to cut corners to make more then I will just make less. It's about presenting the best product possible to your customers not just a name or a bottle.- Isotope, on 12/21/2007, -2/+2Until Cuervo buys you out and makes your product into *****... every man has his price.
- DrMonkeyLove, on 12/21/2007, -1/+1"It's about presenting the best product possible to your customers not just a name or a bottle."
No, actually it's about making a profit. They're companies. That's what they do.
- nickdngr, on 12/21/2007, -0/+1You're absolutely right, a 1999 bottle of Patron tastes way different from a 2007 bottle. That has more to do with the fact that you've had the 1999 bottle longer and have probably exposed it to light while letting it sit in the glass container for 8 years. It tastes better to you because you don't have the refined palate you claim to and experience an altered version of the tequila. You can say it's "better," but that is personal taste, you can call Patron crap, and that is personal taste, but unless you are basing your claim on things such as acidity, bite, agave quality, distillation processing, etc., you come off like your an ignorant kid trying to sound hip as opposed to someone with refined tastes in finer tequilas.
- manicallday, on 12/21/2007, -0/+1Yes. It's personal. That's why I used the word "my." As to suggest that I think that Patron is crap. Thus, its just advice that I found. Whatever works for you great. Further, this is ***** digg not a tequila site. Take the advice for what it's worth.
- bobcrotch, on 12/21/2007, -1/+14Sorry but Patron silver is a good tequila.
- Neuticals, on 12/21/2007, -8/+3Man, even the cheapest one on that list better be laced with opium for it to be even close to worth the cash.
As for the most expensive one: *****, there is NO material possession worth $225k. Opium or not.- LogicBomB, on 12/21/2007, -2/+3Except you know, a house... or land, or land with a house on it.

I do remember the next morning(s) though. They hurt. :(- cawpin, on 12/21/2007, -2/+2That's because you're drinking crap tequila. Good tequila doesn't give you a hangover.
- Skitzzo, on 12/21/2007, -0/+1No, good tequila doesn't give you a hangover as easily. It has less impurities but you'll still have a hangover if you drink a lot of it.
- schnikies79, on 12/21/2007, -0/+3Exactly. I just can't remember.
- hokie47, on 12/21/2007, -0/+2I think it is funny how many people, including myself, have bad memories with tequila. I have had bad times with other kinds of drinks as well, but the distinct smell and taste of tequila will always be etched in my brain.
- Skitzzo, on 12/21/2007, -0/+1"the distinct smell and taste of tequila will always be etched in my brain."
You obviously didn't drink enough. - olsonea, on 12/21/2007, -0/+1Cuervo Gold != Tequila, which is most likely the reason you are so turned off by the wretched smell of 'tequila'. Authentic tequilas should not cause one to wretch in their mouth.
Tequila is only tequila if it is 'cien percento de agave', or 100% from agave, and must be issued a 'NOM' number, otherwise, it is not authentic tequila.
- Skitzzo, on 12/21/2007, -0/+1"the distinct smell and taste of tequila will always be etched in my brain."
- MrVictor, on 12/21/2007, -0/+2No, try real tequila with agave. You'll be amazed; it's like a completely different tasting drink. Lightyears better than that ***** tasting Jose cuervo.

- todwod, on 12/21/2007, -0/+7But you see, if you do ultra preimum, tequila, there is NO need for a chaser. Try patron silver and you'll get what I mean =D
- Maciula, on 12/21/2007, -1/+2Obviously you're clueless. Instead of shooting poison called Jose Cuervo during after-work happy hour, try something like Don Julio, Cabo Wabo, Don Eduardo and then share your valuable thoughts.

- esurient1, on 12/21/2007, -0/+0Haha.

- Superfreak77, on 12/21/2007, -0/+4I live half hour away from the Town of Tequila, so, glad you asked!.
Although I don't drink much, I can tell you that once you get to the upper classes of this brew, it should not cost so much. It didn't get distilled thru the virginal knees of an Aztec emperor's daughter, did it!?
Once at a conf. at my company's HQ in Atlanta, the boss was showing off his knowledge of tequila brands, I think some of them are expensive only once exported, these $40 and $100 premium brands in the US, are $200 pesos here.
Lately things are getting stupid, with fancy bottles, etc. But I do like the names!, there's this one called "Oblivion", -doesn't get any more honest does it?
I haven't seen half of these here locally actually. I think American brewers just buy the base stock and stick a 'Makesico' sounding name for your market.
Hardcore connaisseours go for Mezcal and Raicilla tho.- ToRoE, on 12/21/2007, -0/+1and I thought there was a glut of agave, with to many new growers. shows how stupid US tequila dfrinkers/posers are. meh

:)
- MattB123, on 12/21/2007, -0/+1Really good tequila doesn't need a chaser. But when I do have one a good Sangrita is the way to go.
My favorite that I can (almost) afford is Don Julio silver. Delicious! - partialinfinity, on 12/21/2007, -0/+6The $225k cost is due to the platinum and white gold BOTTLE, not just the tequila.
- akatherder, on 12/21/2007, -1/+1I had a girlfriend who was a redhead and drank tequila frequently. You can take a few guesses as to why that relationship didn't last.

- iblaine, on 12/21/2007, -2/+1Hmm, fair list. Not sure I agree with patron being on there.
- Tweekster, on 12/21/2007, -0/+0I used to fix a laptop for a guy that worked at a tequila distributor. My typical payment was Oru Azul, 30, 50, and 75 dollar bottles.
- troycott, on 12/21/2007, -0/+3This tequila has a very sobering price.
- Sautechef, on 12/21/2007, -0/+1Gotta love marketing. Do you think a 225k tequila is worth it? Yet some idiot buys it and thinks they are the hot ***** because they have the most expensive tequila. If you pay over $80 bucks a bottle of any kind of spirit you are literally pissing your money down the drain.
- jaydoj, on 12/21/2007, -0/+1in soviet russia, tequila drinks you!
- netant, on 12/21/2007, -2/+1What? No worm?!?!?! What a ripoff!
- cima420, on 12/21/2007, -0/+0I've had #2. The guy that shared it with me claimed to have purchased it in Mexico for $450. It was THE smoothest tequilla I've ever had. I wouldn't pay $2K for it here, but I'd definitely take another shot if offered!
- leftnutz, on 12/21/2007, -0/+1The flimsier the product, the higher the price.
- HolmWrecker, on 12/21/2007, -3/+2Boozers are loozers. Just ask my Brother...oh, you can't he died drunk driving. Well, you could ask my cousin...nope, he hung himself in his mothers garage so Mom would see him when she got home, cause the booze was too much. Ask my Mom, she's alive but too permanently pickled to care or even remember yesterday. Ask my uncle..nope, he's a goner too. Dang. You'll just have to find out for yourself...the biggest bummer is the non-stop hurt you bring to your life, family and friends.
- Azuroth, on 12/21/2007, -0/+2I find your story interesting, care to tell me more over a few beers?
- HotWingBias, on 12/21/2007, -0/+3I feel greatly for the pain you've been through, but there is a huge difference between abuse of substance and enjoying a few drinks with friends.
Substance abuse always goes deeper than, "it was the beer's fault." There is always something else at work when someone kills themselves.
And for the record, I have a pretty unhealthy loathing for people who drive drunk, my best friend was killed by a drunk driver who ran a red light. Drunk guy lived, though. But I still drink with buddies. Cabs and DD's for the win. - Skitzzo, on 12/21/2007, -0/+1Stop trying to use Digg as some weird form of group counseling.
- esurient1, on 12/26/2007, -0/+0Haha. Sorry about that.
- esurient1, on 12/21/2007, -0/+1Im sorry to hear that. Fortunately, not everybody allows alcohol to control their lives.
The real question at hand here is, if there wasnt alcohol, would they have still have had problems? Minus drunk driving, Im afraid the answer always leans toward yes.

- jaydoj, on 12/21/2007, -0/+1with you on that one, the platinum is amazing, the asombroso line is good, but I'm a bigger fan of the Don Julio Real....tasty stuff if you're a tequila drinker.
