- ctabone, on 07/12/2009, -0/+49Yes, using old coffee grounds in the garden has really improved my morning cup of joe.
- bonkeykong, on 07/12/2009, -3/+51More like a top 9 list, plus some ***** about making flower designs in your latte's.
- ryanhayn, on 07/12/2009, -5/+32FYI - just because you drink coffee black doesn't make you a bad ass *****.
- datagod, on 07/12/2009, -1/+17I just eat the beans raw, right off the plant. Stay away from that cat-poop cofee. Way too expensive. Mine is cheaper!
- ivan423, on 07/12/2009, -11/+24I use a French press. I press my ***** coffee. Press the bitch. Press it. Press it bitch.
- inactive, on 07/12/2009, -1/+13I always drink 2-3 cups a day. If you need to take a memorable ***** drink coffee. Your ass turns into Cape Canaveral on launch day.
- Theycallmetak, on 07/12/2009, -0/+10From Hawaii?
- DrewBlood, on 07/12/2009, -0/+10use a press and decent beans
- DarkLance, on 07/12/2009, -1/+10Use water that is 180-190 F, not boiling, which will over extract the coffee. Get a thermometer
Let your French Press sit for 5 minutes before pressing down
Use a burr-style grinder, not the crapy spiny blade ones. If you cannot afford one (like me), bring your coffee to your local supermarket and use theirs, I like to run a small amount of their coffee through first to get any flavors out from previous uses.
Check your grind size, the finer the better, as you'll need to use less. People tend to leave it far to coarse, even for French Presses it can be fairly fine. Look at the mesh or filter you use, just keep it larger than the holes.
Don't be afraid to veer off the directions on the can for quantities, adjust to your taste :)
Also, the coffee required is not directly proportional to the amount of water. Less water will require more coffee - prisoner24601, on 07/12/2009, -1/+9Seriously though, why is it that I've bought like five different coffe machines for my home over the last ten years and can't reliably get any of them to make a cup of coffee any better than my local gas station or a Denny's?
- cJw314, on 07/12/2009, -4/+12pluralization != apostrophication
- Megatronz, on 07/12/2009, -1/+8I like my coffee like my president.
- Chinzon, on 07/12/2009, -0/+7Thanks, thanks, my ***** have been quite forgettable of late.
- Foozy, on 07/12/2009, -1/+7never put coffee in the freezer it ruins it.
grind your coffee fresh or it ruins it. - inactive, on 07/12/2009, -0/+6AeroPress is the *****
- joculator, on 07/12/2009, -1/+61. Buy a Poppery II on Ebay (to use for roasting)
2. Buy some green coffee beans from sweetmarias.com (go with Brazilian, much more forgiving when roasting)
3. If you're using a paper filter, run cold water through it first to wash out the paper taste.
4. Heat up a couple of cups of distilled water in a regular pot to where steam is just coming off of it, don't use a drip coffee maker.
5. Try heavy cream in your coffee. - DesignerDave, on 07/12/2009, -0/+5Wayyyy better advice than the post.
- inactive, on 07/12/2009, -0/+5I only counted 6 tips on making better tasting coffee. Am I wrong?
- Forbiddendonut, on 07/12/2009, -2/+7spike the coffee?
- mca1990, on 07/12/2009, -3/+7Tip 11: Avoid CHarbucks whenever possible. Whenever I go there to order a plain coffee it always tastes like lava (how the ***** do you burn water?). Part of the issue might be due to the fact that all five Starbucks I am surrounded by employ careless, inexperienced, teenagers (which I once was) as baristas. Fortunately the city I live in was once a small college town and we have many other well established coffeehouses willing to serve an excellent cup based on Austin's climate, as well as some interesting brews only concocted by the people keeping this city weird. COFFEE FTW!
- Pushkin, on 07/12/2009, -0/+4Pop a nespresso capsule in the machine, press the button, remember the cup :)
- Peko, on 07/12/2009, -1/+4My wallet makes me a bad *****.
Say what again. - Peko, on 07/12/2009, -0/+3The Moka is not really a typical percolator. I wouldn't say it's a perc at all. It's kinda 'stovetop espresso'. Kinda.
I have one and like it - I find it too small though =(. It has a fair amount more setup and especially cleaning. It does brew a much stronger cup.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moka_(coffee_pot) - NJank, on 07/12/2009, -0/+3hot water lines in many older homes leech trace amounts of lead from solder joints into the water line. Hence you always want drinking water to come off the cold line. Also, keeping warm/hot water in a tank doesn't make for a great drinking environment.
- MidnightRIder77, on 07/12/2009, -0/+3Or a top 8 list with some ***** on flower designs and gardening tips.
- dstz, on 07/12/2009, -1/+4Have you tried a stovetop percolator? (i.e. Bialetti) it makes a fine strong and thick coffee and it's cheap.
- compulsive1, on 07/12/2009, -0/+3Agree about burned tasting coffee at Starbucks. Actually I think they roast their beans too much, or just use cheap beans. I only once or twice got good tasting coffee there- it was some sort of daily special. The house blend is rather poor quality. Not much flavor and bitter taste.
Personally, I get my coffee mail order from a place that imports popular European brands. German, Austrian and Swedish coffees are very good- way better than what I can get from local roasters- or Starbucks.
Also, I use lower temperature coffee maker from Krups. It takes a bit more coffee per cup to get it strong, but the lower temperature preserves flavor much better. When I used cheap coffee maker that just dumps boiling hot water on the grinds, the same coffee tasted bad.
I have a French pump too. I use it from time to time- it's different than filtered, but still very good. - McHoffa, on 07/12/2009, -0/+2I like my cold brew concentrate for cold drinks, but for hot I think I prefer freshly ground, freshly brewed...
- CraigReed, on 07/12/2009, -1/+3a percolator? Bite your tongue for giving such advice!
- BigBalledOX, on 07/12/2009, -16/+1811. Don't be a pussy - put the cream and sugar away.
- mca1990, on 07/12/2009, -7/+9Agreed. I drink my coffee black or I don't call it coffee anymore. Also ***** you pansies and your energy drinks.
- harrynotlarry, on 07/12/2009, -0/+2Ground up and covered in boiling water. Ahh yes.
- mrkmrk, on 07/12/2009, -2/+4Have my babies?
- billyvnilly, on 07/12/2009, -0/+2can't be positive, but i think it's just better to get cold water from the tap... rather then using hot water from the tap.
- Pushkin, on 07/12/2009, -0/+2Ebay - nespresso
- Wareznuke, on 07/12/2009, -0/+2Don't know why you're being dugg down. Your comment is very accurate and informative. Right out of coffeegeek.com
- Trichomonas, on 07/12/2009, -0/+2He meant $10,000. In some countries a dot/period is used instead of a comma.
- lisaawesome, on 07/12/2009, -0/+2I'm glad I'm not the only one who loves black coffee. People think I'm crazy for wanting it black. I like the bitter taste.
- inactive, on 07/12/2009, -0/+2Craig: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kona_coffee
- LoneWolf01, on 07/12/2009, -1/+3Instant coffee serves me fine.
- pimuni, on 07/12/2009, -0/+1an illustration like that of alcoholic drinks would be awesome too
- CraigReed, on 07/12/2009, -0/+1There might be good coffee beans grown in those parts, all the volcanic soil and such.
- Wareznuke, on 07/12/2009, -0/+1Get a Technivorm. Hands down it's the best machine I ever owned. It's the only drip machine that brews your coffee at the right temperature. It's pricey but worth the money.
- driftwood07, on 07/12/2009, -0/+1you have clearly never had the cheap folgers in a giant tub then.
- Wareznuke, on 07/12/2009, -0/+1love it!
- moxsapphyre, on 10/22/2009, -0/+1so many ways to tweak a cup of coffee. starting with good coffee makes it easier...
http://www.HawaiianIsles.com - inactive, on 07/12/2009, -0/+1depends on how your water is heated, if you have a hot water tank then dont drink it.
- haikuFU, on 07/12/2009, -0/+1I dug you up, but it's not a percolator. I have a Bialetti and I use it every day. Makes better coffee than any other machine I've had.
Cold press is awesome also, but I really end up going through a lot of beans to make cold press.
The only better coffee I've had than the Bialetti is good HIGH quality beans in a good high quality espresso machine ($800+). Most of the machines are crap, but CoffeeGeek has some good reviews if you're in the market for one. - madponyboy, on 07/12/2009, -0/+1Try using coconut milk instead of regular. deliciousness.
- radanator2, on 07/12/2009, -10/+11Drink your Red Bull, go bungee jumpin, and listen to your Village People energy drink boy! Us BLACK coffee drinkers are gonna admire our chest hair and drive our Mustangs while you pansies are teasing your hair and deciding what underwear to buy at Hot Topic.
