- JRW5061, on 06/20/2009, -2/+17Or you could just look at the nutritional information, under carbohydrates. It tells you how many grams of sugars there are. I think that's a bit easier.
- Psara, on 06/20/2009, -3/+18"Sneak"? As in they're trying to force you to eat sugar against your will?
- davidlow, on 06/20/2009, -0/+7Corn syrup is used in "is used in salad dressings, tomato sauces, powdered drink mixes, fruit drinks and juices, and desserts like pudding and ice milk"
...and everything else. Really. 95% of everything in a supermarket (that has more than 1 ingredient) contains corn syrup. - evildeadguy, on 06/20/2009, -0/+5i could give a ***** less what its called as long as I don't see aspartame or its other names in the ingredients list.
- vizerei, on 06/20/2009, -0/+4What was this a 7th grade science project of trying to find all the common names for sugar?
I guess the kid forgot to separate out Molasses, Backstrap Molasses, as well as a few others, when the list was made. - tgc1, on 06/20/2009, -1/+5Where the hell is Galactose?
- pinchduck, on 06/20/2009, -0/+4It's working.
- nepidae, on 06/20/2009, -1/+5Its an evil conspiracy to enfatten americans.
- ThraxyWaxy, on 06/20/2009, -0/+4I saw a pamphlet at my old school cafeteria entitled "hidden sources of sodium" and the number 1 example was "PRETZELS."
- palehorse864, on 06/20/2009, -1/+4So just get a natural sugar?
- JonTheGoose, on 06/20/2009, -0/+3Sugar! doo doo doo doo doo dooooo awwww honey honey! doo doo doo doo doo dooooo
u r mah candy grrrrl!!
*leaps into traffic* - akchrs, on 06/20/2009, -0/+3I like those giant yellow Costco sugar cookies dipped in delicious sugar. That's jut me though.
- leesw, on 06/20/2009, -0/+3Cane juice is better for you than regular sugar simply because it takes longer to digest. So it doesn't hit your blood stream so quickly. Way better than Aspartame.
- Barackalypse, on 06/20/2009, -0/+3Can I get a list of artificial sweeteners instead, since those might actually pose health risks?
- darlingt, on 06/20/2009, -1/+3How does glucose not get its own heading?
- Goombellaofgoom, on 06/19/2009, -0/+2I'd seen some of these, but about half were new to me. Very interesting list...
- Wosat, on 06/20/2009, -0/+2Here's one I've seen before...
"Evaporated cane juice" -- cane, like sugarcane... hehe - leesw, on 06/20/2009, -0/+2That's hidden?
- davidlow, on 06/20/2009, -1/+3The sugar in maple syrup is sucrose, not fructose like it says in the article.
- JRW5061, on 06/20/2009, -0/+2then you get the diabetes
- uclaith, on 06/20/2009, -0/+2well... grapes have the highest concentration of sugars of any fruit (dates are second)
therefore, white grape juice should have a higher concentration of sugar by default... theres nothing else added to it other than white grapes - nepidae, on 06/20/2009, -0/+2wtf? I thought pretzels were covered with crystallized love.
- snapcase, on 06/20/2009, -0/+2That just further points out the pointlessness of this article. They list all these different sugars and several of them aren't even metabolized in the same ways. Different types of sugars have different impacts on your health, and of course, depending on how much and how often they're ingested.
Seems like the article is trying to say that all sugars are the same and that they're also all bad. Pretty naive. - Anth0n, on 06/20/2009, -2/+3Eat natural foods, drink water. Problem solved.
- diggadigga, on 06/20/2009, -0/+1then you get the power
- palehorse864, on 06/20/2009, -1/+2First you get the sugar.
- nepidae, on 06/20/2009, -0/+1beware?! sugar ***** rules.
- hardtoconfuse, on 06/20/2009, -0/+1Everything is bad for you.
- Czaja, on 06/20/2009, -0/+1Nevermind my comment, darlingt beat me to it.
- Czaja, on 06/20/2009, -0/+1They forgot to mention glucose.
- apathy9, on 06/20/2009, -1/+2"White grape juice. A highly purified fructose solution. Virtually no other nutrients are present. It is often used in juice concentrate blends." - I have seen this listed as an ingredient in many different juices. I figured it was just a cheap base juice to use in cheaper brands of expensive juices, like how apple juice is listed as an ingredient in many juices. Who would have thought that this was anything other then the juice from white grapes?
- inactive, on 06/20/2009, -1/+2White grape juice is probably the sneakiest.
- Bainemo, on 06/20/2009, -1/+2Question: Does the name of sugar change in the nutrition facts too? Because if not, you could just look there instead of carrying around a list of sugar code-names.
- CarpetFilter, on 06/20/2009, -0/+1Hmm, well, technically, starch is sugar. It's a polymer of glucose, and your body breaks it down into exactly that. The upside is that it takes energy and time to digest starch, so it doesn't result in quite as large a blood sugar spike.
Even more interesting, cellulose is a polymer of glucose as well, but we can't digest it. Cotton is made of cellulose. Your cotton t-shirt is therefore mostly pure sugar. - Bainemo, on 06/20/2009, -0/+1Oh. Where.
- yacks, on 06/20/2009, -0/+1"First you get the sugar,... then you get the power,.... then you get.. the women"
- snapcase, on 06/20/2009, -0/+1Not really... apple juice is used as a sweetener as well.
- Barackalypse, on 06/20/2009, -0/+1Then you lose all the power and half the money, plus your kids and the house!
- uclaith, on 06/20/2009, -0/+1i believe you meant the diabetus
- FLarsen, on 06/20/2009, -0/+1Not from sugar. Sugar is a problem *after* you get diabetes.
- uclaith, on 06/20/2009, -0/+1sucrose = fructose + glucose
your body breaks sucrose down into the individual molecules anyways... - FLarsen, on 06/20/2009, -0/+1The list is stupid. Why are sugar alcohols on there? Especially xylitol, which is nothing but healthy and delicious.
- FLarsen, on 06/20/2009, -0/+1You're an idiot Anth0n. Go drink some crude oil, it's natural!
- yacks, on 06/20/2009, -0/+1or get mowed down in gunfire from a bunch of sugar gangsters
- norcalscan, on 06/20/2009, -1/+1Pickle surprise!
- Anth0n, on 06/20/2009, -0/+0Fruits!
- Bainemo, on 06/20/2009, -1/+1Based on the name my guess would be sugar derived from milk somehow
- mrgeekguy, on 06/20/2009, -6/+3Don't forget cocaine, sweet, sweet nose candy.
