- diemunkiesdie, on 08/17/2008, -2/+92Consumerist is retarded! I received both of those messages and let me tell you, you can opt out of those messages at the bottom of the email where it says "To unsubscribe and not receive further emails, click here." It wouldn't be an unsolicited email since you are signed on their list and you can opt out of their emails.
Also, why shouldn't they send a message telling you that the previous deal is not valid and won't work? Stupid Cosumerist blog getting mad at a company even when they try to do the right thing! Also the opt out link does work! I just verified with a friend who opted out last week and didn't receive either of these messages. And no they aren't even in her spam box! - MidnightRIder77, on 08/17/2008, -5/+57I'm commenting on this story.
- MidnightRIder77, on 08/17/2008, -2/+51Sorry I commented on that story. I won't do it again.
- chrissku, on 08/17/2008, -2/+35Pizza Hut made a mistake. They apologized. What's the big deal? I mean honestly.
- samimnot, on 08/17/2008, -2/+2790% of everything on the Consumerist is exactly like this...people with nothing better to do, except whine and complain about every little thing.
- AmyVernon, on 08/17/2008, -5/+29"new functionality" = fail
- curseoflou, on 08/17/2008, -1/+26should have sent spam pizza instead.
- connieLingus, on 08/17/2008, -0/+19i got this message...here is full text
Dear Valued Pizza Hut Customer:
You may have received an email on Wednesday that appeared to be from Pizza Hut with the subject line
"Sports - 2 Medium pizzas, 1 one-topping and 1 specialty or up to 3 toppings". We were testing
new functionality that will better serve our customers. It was not the intent of Pizza Hut for this email to be
sent to you. We apologize for any inconvenience or confusion this may have caused. We value your relationship
with us and understand that communicating with you via email is a privilege not to be taken lightly. We have
identified the cause of the mistake and have taken steps to make sure this does not happen again.
Again, we apologize for any inconvenience or confusion that email message may have caused. We appreciate
you as a customer and want you to be 100% satisfied with us.

- jordanlgta, on 08/17/2008, -2/+14What is the problem here? They apologized for a mistake. What the hell do you people want?
- inactive, on 08/17/2008, -0/+12Oh no, we have an unsolicited apology! Somebody call a wambulance!
- jisrael, on 08/17/2008, -0/+12The Consumerist: You're damned if you do and you're damned if you don't (hopefully you catch us on a good day).
- terrya64, on 08/17/2008, -1/+12I order pizzahut online at least 30 times over the last 3 years and have never recevied any spam from them.
- idiftl, on 08/17/2008, -3/+13Hello, this is Homer Simpson a.k.a. Happy Dude. The court has ordered me to call everyone in town and say that I'm sorry for my telemarketing scams. I'm sorry. If you can find it in your heart to forgive me, please send one dollar to "Sorry Dude" 742 Evergreen Terrace, Springfield. You have the power!
- joemofo214, on 08/17/2008, -1/+9Yea, I did notice that, so I unsubscribed. No big deal
- inactive, on 08/17/2008, -0/+8I totally agree, what a retarded claim. I recieved the message too, at least Pizza Hut tried to warn their subscribers instead of leaving them in the dark. -1 for Consumerist.
- thegrantman, on 08/17/2008, -0/+7They apologized....and that's a hell of a lot more than can be said of most companies.
- fatb0y42, on 08/17/2008, -0/+6dugg for productivity.
- MurphyWatson, on 08/17/2008, -1/+6If this is what the future is like, I'm just making a cheapo yahoo account for all of it. I'll keep my gmail nice and clean.
- GMTruckClub, on 08/17/2008, -0/+5It was a 3rd party marketing company (spammer) that sent them out on Pizza Hut's behalf, smoss@epsilon.com. Probably cost them a big contract.
- Blandyman, on 08/17/2008, -0/+5You were annoyed? Wow bro, god forbid they waste all that valuable time of yours where you have to click the checkbox and then delete (which you probably would've done anyway.)
- acis1, on 08/17/2008, -1/+6I welcomed the follow up email. The first email came from an address that wasn't pizzahut.com and I assumed it was either a phishing scam or someone had gotten a hold of the email addresses of pizzahuts customer base. The follow up email explained what went wrong and put my mind at ease as far as giving them my CC number when ordering online. I'm tired of seeing crap like this on consumerist.com they shouldn't be allowed to have a website anymore.
- Aorawn, on 08/17/2008, -0/+5Except, that you can unsubscribe, so this article is full of fail. Buried.
- pintomp3, on 08/17/2008, -1/+6i only got the second one, so i was a bit confused. i guess my spam filter caught the first one.
- Jrr6415sun, on 08/17/2008, -0/+4papa johns won't even let me cancel their spam email.. everytime I click unsubscribe it says sorry an error occurred.. they are worse than the real spam i get
- motang, on 08/17/2008, -1/+5Yeah I was a victim, you think they would offer us a free medium pizza or something. :-)
- btschul, on 08/17/2008, -0/+4I do that already. For sites where you need followup, this is great. But for sites where they just send you that ***** "click here to activate your account" link email and that's it, try using http://email.bugmenot.com
- freepizza48, on 08/17/2008, -2/+6I don't mind a little spam. The deals they offer you for ordering online are great.
- chaoswings, on 08/17/2008, -1/+5I'd say the "new functionality" = win it worked so well they used it for the apology mail! I'd call that a success.
- lies03, on 08/17/2008, -0/+4I do this already... everyone should. After all, they are free.
1 for professional stuff (college,work,business)
1 social websites, or just websites you like.
1 for things that might seem like spam, but you still want to register.
1 for online buying. Keep this separate from your professional one. This will have a ton of email receipts. - thesonofdarwin, on 08/17/2008, -0/+3No apology so they can bitch some more. But why, they are bitching as a result of receiving the apology anyway so...
I wish I would have invested my money into tampax stock instead of a college education at this rate. - rootnik, on 08/17/2008, -4/+7***** Pizza Hut for sending me emails after I foolishly gave them my email address.
- heyitsgarrett, on 08/17/2008, -0/+3Stop posting links to your ***** blog. It wasn't funny the first time.
- asus2000, on 08/17/2008, -0/+3"unsolicited apology" --- That's the best kind.
- inactive, on 08/17/2008, -0/+3It's just a confirmation. Is that one email going to break you?
Get the ***** over it. - xjeffx, on 08/17/2008, -0/+3Sounds like Digg :)
- DoctorGrondo, on 08/17/2008, -0/+3Everyone should use Yahoo's AddressGuard feature to make disposable email addresses. I have a different email address for every single service, so if any of them start overly spamming, I just delete that disposable email address and I never hear from them again. I wish Google would add a feature like this.
- Reinon, on 08/17/2008, -1/+3funny story, especially the title. i'll remember to laugh later today
- booyahbitch, on 08/17/2008, -1/+3"We have
identified the cause of the mistake and have taken steps to make sure this does not happen again." = we fired the booze chugging assclown who was testing new functionality in our production envronment!!!!!! Or at least that is how it comes off to me. :o) - oddturtle, on 08/17/2008, -2/+4Tough life, getting an email apology. Good thing we have Nader to fight for our consumer rights.
- dattaway, on 08/17/2008, -0/+2just be aware some vendors email lost passwords for accounts that have credit card information saved...
- SSUK, on 08/17/2008, -0/+2Go back to school. You seem to belong there.
- Jrr6415sun, on 08/17/2008, -1/+3KFC and Taco Bell are AMAZING... pizza hut is good too every once and awhile.
I don't know why people hate so much on the good food :/ - asus2000, on 08/17/2008, -0/+2LMAO.. Trading one big corporate POS intestine clogger for another..
- xjeffx, on 08/17/2008, -0/+2I am sad for you.
- dericko, on 08/17/2008, -2/+4Taco Bell is far from amazing...
I can go eat authentic mexican food for the same cost at many places in town.. - wreckosaurus, on 08/17/2008, -1/+3http://img524.imageshack.us/img524/3403/scammerqc9 ...
- skinrock, on 08/17/2008, -0/+2So you order online and you get emails that may benefit you for future online orders, big ***** deal. I was one of those that got those emails and thought it was pretty funny. Took me all of two seconds to delete it. It's not like my email has been compromised.
- Nick22, on 08/17/2008, -1/+3You know, consumerist has some good stuff sometimes, but most of the time it seems like they are just a bunch of cry babies
- nickstang, on 08/17/2008, -0/+2I agree... sign up for a ***** ton of these free email address and use the foward email feature to your REAL gmail (or other) account.
This gives you the option of deleting an offending email spam account. -
