- inactive, on 09/03/2008, -2/+11If it wasn't for that large land mass to the south, Gustav could have been a real nightmare...
- bblande, on 09/03/2008, -1/+6Dugg for not being about Sarah or Bristol Palin.
- DickyT83, on 09/03/2008, -1/+5You made my penis soft.
- superrcat, on 09/03/2008, -0/+4Gustav WAS devastating! All anyone is hearing is about how New Orleans came out of it fine, but Baton Rouge, the state capitol is devastated. I live here and there is no power, no gas to fill up with, thousands in lines at the grocery stores that actually have food and are open. Traffic lights do not work, trees and power lines are down and we have a curfew. Half the city will not get power until 4-6 weeks! But national news just wanted to watch NOLA get destroyed and when it didn't happen, they moved on to the RNC.
- MacParrot, on 09/03/2008, -1/+4OK, this gets my vote for most absurd and yet funny and on topic comment of the day.
- dsmx, on 09/03/2008, -0/+3Ahh the onion got it right just the wrong land mass to the south.
- anachronaut, on 09/03/2008, -0/+2They probably just blew a fuse or something up at HAARP and lost control of it. They'll get those dirty heathens next time...

- MacParrot, on 09/03/2008, -2/+4Dude it's a naturally occurring weather phenomena that is subject to conditions that can be almost impossible to predict. Don't fret it.

- inactive, on 09/03/2008, -0/+1Too many leftards were watching Bush and Cheney too closely, and they couldn't do their voo-doo to bring death and destruction like last time.

- lornali, on 09/04/2008, -0/+1Gustav fooled all of us!!
- anarcurt, on 09/03/2008, -0/+1There has been a dramatic drop in solar activity the last 2 years. August was the first month without a single visible sunspot in nearly 100 years. Less Energy = Smaller Hurricane.
- Nothlit, on 09/03/2008, -1/+2I doubt it. Project Stormfury basically showed that seeding hurricanes doesn't really make much difference, due to natural eyewall replacement cycles.
- lucutus, on 09/03/2008, -2/+2MacParrot, You're probably right. I'm just saying that this story doesn't jive with the archived facts. Either the writer made it up or somebody is lying. That of course makes me wonder.

- inactive, on 09/03/2008, -3/+2It is indeed a monster. This time, thanks to the levies for keeping the 6 feet of rising water out. If you have watched the recent news video clip in New Orleans, you would see the water rose to the top of the tall levies.

- lucutus, on 09/03/2008, -6/+4Seeding anyone? I don't go around wearing a tinfoil hat but my friends and I noticed something odd in gustav that has not been explained.
Some friends and I were watching this storm closely from multiple sources. At about 10:45 UTC Saturday there were what appeared to be unnatural holes forming around the eye. This was followed by the storm weakening when all forecasts were still predicting strengthening. None of us know of course but we all saw it on various satellite images and agree it is definitely not a previously seen natural pattern.
none of the forecasters said anything about wind shear. They all said it should gain strength. Also as it left Cuba the eye was strong and perfectly round unlike this story claims. - lucutus, on 09/03/2008, -5/+3Correction it wasn't Saturday it was Sunday this was observed.
Check this excerpt from the NOAA Archive from Sunday morning after Gustav left Cuba.
"MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS ARE NEAR 120 MPH...195 KM/HR...WITH HIGHER
GUSTS. GUSTAV IS A CATEGORY THREE HURRICANE ON THE SAFFIR-SIMPSON
SCALE. SOME RE-INTENSIFICATION IS FORECAST DURING THE NEXT 12 TO 24
HOURS...AND GUSTAV COULD REGAIN CATEGORY FOUR STRENGTH LATER TODAY
OR TONIGHT. FLUCTUATIONS IN STRENGTH ARE LIKELY THEREAFTER...BUT
GUSTAV IS FORECAST TO REMAIN A MAJOR HURRICANE UNTIL LANDFALL."
Notice the 120MPH winds? That's Cat' 3!!!!
Why doesn't national geographic jive with the records?
The facts are all archived here.

I thought I was just over analyzing until I saw this story and the facts don't match. - fx666, on 09/03/2008, -3/+1It was all-powerful Obama who shifted the hurricane to the west. Of course, he would love to take credit for all things that go right, and his idiotic supporters believe everything that the blabbermouth says. Obama is also responsible for a sharp drop in solar activity and a host of other things except for the decrease in violence in Iraq.
- oldgeek, on 09/03/2008, -3/+1George Bushes weather machine broke down from being over used for Katrina and they ran out of TNT for the boat that they used to blow up the Levey.
What's so bad the lefty idiots believe that crap. - orlyfactor, on 09/03/2008, -3/+1My guess would be the lack of lightning and an assistant named Igor.

- aenima987, on 09/03/2008, -6/+3Cheney's power is weakening.
- inactive, on 09/03/2008, -6/+3It's just that Bush and his ability to make Hurricanes is beginning to become weak!/s
- PTAV, on 09/03/2008, -4/+0Because it's the nature and it always can change.

- hippocopter, on 09/03/2008, -13/+2The only thing that intervened with this storm was God himself. He would not cause such a disaster at a time when the Republicans NEED to win the White House.
