- saikhan, on 10/12/2007, -4/+46Dude! You should totally check out what’s on now: The Weekly Forecast!
- diggduggjoe, on 10/12/2007, -5/+37Its okay, but I thought interactive would mean I could move storm systems around. ;)
- tidu, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13dunno, it might have been a good thing that you were safe in your basement instead of surfing the internets...
right? - Ellsass, on 11/05/2008, -0/+10I suppose you completely disable JavaScript too. Your web experience must suck.
- sockmonkeyfun, on 10/12/2007, -5/+14This is very cool. I am a weather geek and love radar maps. In Oregon there is almost always something up there to see. :)
- Braxo, on 10/12/2007, -5/+14Wow, now instead of simply looking out my school's library window, I can see the East Coast Snow storm in near real time using Internet.
About 3 inches so far accumulated since I arrived here 3 hours ago. Buffalo, NY - smilesman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9http://image.weather.com/web/flash/FMMain.swf?viewPortWidth=1000&viewPortHeight=800&initialWeatherLayerType=radar&initialZoomLevel=5
Resolution is much nicer this way... - justinjacobs, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8*tivo'd*
- Charlotte_Web, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7I use the ForecastFox Enhanced module for Firefox, which does something very similar. Not only can you have a multi-day forecast at the bottom of your web browser window, but there's also a radar icon you can mouse over at any time and it will popup an animated radar display.
https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/1978/ - GuyHitByTruck, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4That link (at least for me) makes it by itself, but not full screen.
- Brows, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5This is not Amazing, it's nice but not Amazing. btw, you could do this in Google Earth for more than a year now
- louis74, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6I'm with tidu.. wii weather is neat.. but add real time data like this and boom I'd use it
- DarkPrince11, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Ironic, I look outside and its a clear night, I check the radar and it says Im supposed to have like snow...(In Deer Park, NY btw)...:/

Well I think I agree with this guy's message, that the web is being dragged down by dopey bandwidth-stealing bells-and-whistles like Flash, CSS, web forms, and paragraph tags. Why can't web developers leave well enough alone and stick with the original 1993 spec?
Personally, I don't let Flash run for safety reasons. I always browse with Javascript, cookies, and Flash turned off by default, and a popup blocker. I turn off all ActiveX controls and scripting, no Java, and I don't let my browser connect to web pages that are being dynamically generated or sent to the browser by any sort of server. I then make sure that my browser is not running at all before surfing to any web site, as well as disconnecting my cable modem both at the LAN port and the coax. That prevents port sniffing as I understand it.
It may seem like a bit of a hassle, but I've only had five or six viruses and trojans in the last week, so you can't argue with success. - BobaFettTDG, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7ZOMG it's raining in Seattle NO WAII!!1
- vawksel, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6Eh... its nice, but "amazing", not to me.
- rkzda, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Not if his main pc is in the basement like mine and many others I know.
- Ellsass, on 11/05/2008, -0/+2Or change your display resolution to 640x480 and shrink the browser window down until it fits. But that's just no fun.
- wasd, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4I agree, its amazing. Been telling people but they don't care. I still think its pretty sweet :)
- daggett, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I second that... although they do pretty well with the next day forecast, I've learned not to trust their 7-day forecasts. Why do they even bother?
- haonanzhang, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2can I display the map in full screen by itself?
- Rodzirra, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Wow... It's crummy everywhere in the US today.
- shreela, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I clicked and clicked where I live, and thought it was lame. Until I thought about how it's about 70'ish with a few clouds outside. So I went up to the NE where the pink showed snow activity, and chose the button for radar and clouds and watched the animation. A bit more exciting, but not much. Maybe I'll watch it again next time there's a hurricane or tornado storms.
- kenvibe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I've never used "Microsoft's Virtual Earth," but I must say its not that bad. Its a copy, but there are some pretty cool features as well...
- tidu, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2You're screwed.
- cplusplus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Uses Flash (yuck) while gmaps uses AJAX (nice).
"No radar" message for my areas - its useless.
No satellite photo for anything close to my area - I'll take gmaps, thanks. - garyh84, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Flash is yuck and AJAX nice? Interesting...
- TimTim, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Wow! It took two days for this to show up on Digg!
It's still cool though! - jimbobaii, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This is a superb use of our technology. I wish we had a UK equivalent
- jukin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Yet, they still can't predict what weather will happen tomorrow.
- Spiritcatcher, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5Pat Robertson is the only mofo that I know of who moves storms around. Hurricanes specifically.
- Dolomite, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Whatever d00d. Micro$oft makes sucky software. It full of bugs and not secure.
- acey049, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1here you go
http://image.weather.com/web/flash/FMMain.swf - drummerlcc, on 05/05/2009, -0/+0Hey, have you checked out http://imapweather.com - we've got some pretty cool stuff on there.
- westsnoop, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0The doppler map is superiot in every way to this abortion.
- Zolk, on 10/12/2007, -5/+5And it even works in Safari.
- Cyre, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2My house doesn't have a basement...
- alexhuyalegzz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I can't believe it! I've never thought it is for real.
- rkzda, on 10/12/2007, -8/+8You should live there because you have a little Johnson or what?
- donsherio, on 10/12/2007, -5/+5....so im thinking this map is USA only at the moment??? siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiigh...
- prfcteclipse99, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0How do i make it a little bit smaller of resolution to the following link...when i click on this link the bottom controls dont show up...can someone please make it a little smaller to show everything in the map? Here is the example... by smilesman on 02/25/2007
http://image.weather.com/web/flash/FMMain.swf?viewPortWidth=1000&viewPortHeight=800&initialWeatherLayerType=radar&initialZoomLevel=5
Resolution is much nicer this way... - kiloWatt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This makes me wish I hadn't failed my GIS class!
- CoreBurn, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Yeah www.weatherbonk.com shows a lot more information and works in either the browser or Google Earth.
- hitmark, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0I agree, its amazing.
- davekoob, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm going to have to say I do think this thing is pretty cool. We had a major ice storm here in Iowa this past weekend and this was a pretty cool tool to track the storm down to the street level.
- drummerlcc, on 10/26/2008, -0/+0Take a look at http://imapweather.com - it's a new site we're working on. This is a VERY early release, but be sure to sign up for updates. The next version coming out in early 2009 promises to change the way we connect with the weather.
- TheGuruStud, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Buried for Microsoft being mentioned positively in the article :P
- acey049, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Try right clicking on a black area of the page and then click "zoom in". Right click in the black area again and click "Show All" to have a bigger version of the original, including the controls. Sometimes it depends on where in the black area you click on.
Then, if in Firefox click View > Full Screen (or F11).
In IE7, click Tools > Full Screen (or F11) - KnightMareInc, on 10/12/2007, -5/+4good timing, its snowing here.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Wow...you possibly can't expect to not get buried for this bit of pathetic fanboyism, could you? It is just a matter of which os hte MANY reasons you gave people to bury you they will choose. Will it be the $, that hasn't been used by regular people for years? OR will it be the FTW, which has NEVER been used by anyone with any social skills? Or will it be your blind hatred of anything Microsoft, since Virtual Earth has definite advantages (as well as disadvatnages) over Google EArth?
