- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+13"At -2000 feet, light fades to perpetual darkness, the water temperature drops to a few degrees above freezing, and the truly strange animals take over. Fish are just as likely to stand on their heads or point straight up as they are to swim. Sharks with no dorsal fins grow to 20 feet. Tripod fish, polka-dotted angler fish, and swimming sea cucumbers start to appear. "

If it's something they've never seen before how the hell do they know how to keep it alive once they capture it?

- Grok22, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5"This time it's seen because marine park employees caught the beast, at closer to our level. They think it surfaced because it was sick or something, and it died shortly after capture."
They found it close to the surface of the water, it was not captured in its habitat - avisotin, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4I bet he drives the ladies nuts.
You're welcome, ladies! - thesonofdarwin, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Come on now, there is at least a little science involved in... science. We have a means of studying these animals in their natural habitat via submersibles. Study the chemical and physical parameters of its environment first and replicate them the best we can. Most creatures become so adapted to their environment that they cannot survive other places. Obviously, some organisms are quite a bit more specific than others and almost all of them come from extreme environments. We can't even culture many bacteria from these extreme environments correctly and yet we move on to multicellular organisms? Trial and error is fine when you've done everything to eliminate any possible error that anyone can think of. Unfortunately, many "scientists" don't do this. And I speak as a scientist.

- Evi1d33d, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4A frilled shark doesn't look like that normally, he got sick and floated to shallow water. Since the shallow water doesn't have the high pressure like the environment he's used to, the high pressure inside of his body is actually forcing everything out and causing him to become bloated. He's in real pain.
- shorty9, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Sharks are beautiful creatures.
