- BREZZZ, on 07/07/2009, -0/+24Just tie yourself to a pipe with a belt. I've watched enough movies to know that the cellar door is just going to rip right off and suck your Pa right out. His overalls act as a parachute and he flys right out. And guess what? Overalls = no belt to tie yourself down with. So the first thing you should consider is not where to hide, but what you are wearing.
- Lucas123, on 07/06/2009, -0/+19It's a time-travel vortex.
- inactive, on 07/07/2009, -1/+16Although this picture may be worth 1000 words, in person, the storm is only worth around three: HOLY ***** *****
- tankenka, on 07/06/2009, -2/+11protip: Due to lenses being circular, if it is a vertical wide-angle lens, it is probably also a horizontal wide angle as well. The rectangular shape comes from the shape of the film/image sensor. He probably just turned his camera sideways for this and cropped out the rest.
Also, sweet pic. - popzero, on 07/07/2009, -1/+9Damn. Missed my chance to return to the Nexus.
- tankenka, on 07/07/2009, -0/+7And in typing that, I realize beer and digg are best kept separate.
- Snoogs, on 07/07/2009, -2/+9THERE IS NO DANA-- THERE IS ONLY ZUUL.....
- gianthorse, on 07/07/2009, -0/+6I wish i could see something this astounding in real life
- chakalakasp, on 07/06/2009, -0/+5Wha? It's true that the image area of a lens is circular, however -- it's a vertical shot because the vertical dimensions are larger than the horizontal dimensions. How this is accomplished doesn't really matter, though saying you took a "vertical shot" usually means you rotated the camera so that the longest side of the image sensor (assuming the sensor is not a perfect square) runs perpendicular to the horizon.
- Ghostalker, on 07/07/2009, -0/+4V'ger is looking for the creator...
- pathouston22, on 07/07/2009, -0/+3Taken on a 10-22mm lens, at 10mm. So yes, wide angle lens. And yes, he probably just cropped.
- the2989, on 07/07/2009, -0/+3I live in Tornado Alley. It'd have to be pretty late in the evening for the clouds to get dark at all, and even then, all the clouds would be dark, not just parts of them. Big storms during the afternoon/early evening just turn the sky a mild shade of gray (or blue/green if it's a really ugly storm).
- tankenka, on 07/07/2009, -1/+3Correct, however the term wide angle is used specifically to describe a lens type that has a very lare field of view, and often has distortion, making straight lines appear curved.
- caseycoold, on 07/07/2009, -0/+2As long as it wasn't in the path...

- akoostik, on 07/07/2009, -0/+1Should I be more scared of this? Or a tornado?
- Roadvirus, on 07/07/2009, -0/+1Awesome yet still deadly
- awtprod, on 07/07/2009, -0/+1a tornado. a mesocyclone, picture above, is not nearly as dangerous.
- XBebop, on 07/08/2009, -0/+1The only trees for miles around...and they get hit dead-on.

/nerd - ajworf, on 07/07/2009, -0/+0I knew if I scrolled down far enough I would find some idiot calling this photoshop. Have you ever even opened photoshop before? Not only do I use photoshop on the daily and believe me that's not photoshop. I used to live 45 minutes west of Dodge city and that is a yearly sight.
- exarkun15, on 07/07/2009, -1/+1If this is the same storm I remember it passed right over my house. Funny, as it left town there were tons of people following behind it in their cars watching it. Awesome site to behold though.
- CJDesign, on 07/07/2009, -2/+2hahaha jeez...scary as f**k!
- hossman, on 07/07/2009, -0/+0Beautiful mesocyclone.
- mogebier, on 07/07/2009, -2/+2I would just crap my pants.
Then faint. - DeskFlyer, on 07/07/2009, -1/+1Damnit, I remember seeing a TV show (or movie) that showing a giant inverted vortex hovering over a city and then a couple of dudes drive a truck up in it or something. After that it just got bizarre. Can't remember what it's from now.
- jackointhebox, on 07/07/2009, -1/+1Ryan McGinnis is one sadistic mofo...
- belyi, on 07/08/2009, -1/+0They owe nothing beyond the original ticket price. These customers took a risk, and it didn't work in their favor. I have a feeling these are the same people that feel they are entitled to be bailed out of the negative equity in their homes. http://pinkcitytravel.blogspot.com/
