- TobiasParker, on 07/14/2009, -0/+31The Aral sea is an inland sea. Rise in ocean levels are because of glaciers melting, which would not affect an inland sea.
Sometimes i regret ever clicking the "show comment" button. - dvirsky, on 07/14/2009, -1/+25what? RTFA please before commenting.
- eanbowman, on 07/14/2009, -0/+20It's somewhat striking as an animated GIF http://i234.photobucket.com/albums/ee101/seikokun/ ...
- WoollyMittens, on 07/14/2009, -4/+23When Russia ***** up, it's always on an epic scale.
- skipvt, on 07/14/2009, -1/+20Pictures were backwards, should have shown the before then after.
- RealmDown, on 07/14/2009, -0/+19It's a glitch in the Matrix.
- The2DQuartet, on 07/14/2009, -1/+17In Soviet Russia, rivers diverted for make benefit glorious nation of Kazakhstan
- GrandZooby, on 07/14/2009, -5/+17Yes, because corporations always put the well-being of the environment ahead of their profits.
How much do you want to bet that there's at least one corporation raking in huge profits from all those rich cotton fields irrigated by the water from that lake? - CyberBeast, on 07/14/2009, -9/+19Shows what happens when the government decides to do "some" projects.
- The2DQuartet, on 07/14/2009, -0/+6Never mind RTFA, just reading the caption under the headline shows this has as much to do with global warming as my hamster does with the last ice age.
- MacEnvy, on 07/14/2009, -0/+6Maybe you should go ahead and read the part about the World Bank again before you make a fool of yourself.
- Junkyarddawg, on 07/14/2009, -0/+6You guys will be thrilled to hear that lake Balkhash, which is another Great Lakes-sized lake in Asia, is now going the way of Lake Aral, and for the exact same reason. Lake Baikal is still stable, but only because its effluent has been dammed, otherwise it too would be shrinking.
- eanbowman, on 07/14/2009, -0/+6LOL
syntaxgs is back again with another post.
Wow, this time it's actually readable! Bravo! - wolfing, on 07/14/2009, -0/+5they didn't drain it, they just changed the course of rivers that fed it, so it slowly dried up
- jnisme, on 07/14/2009, -0/+4You weren't saved from it.
- greatfloat, on 07/14/2009, -2/+6Why does this same thing keep coming up every few months?
- IKORKYI, on 07/14/2009, -1/+4like everything they do
- Yazilliclick, on 07/14/2009, -2/+5No, this resulted from the typical mistakes people make by thinking they understand the consequences but are shown to have not. It is not unique to any group of people and every group of people makes these mistakes. It is a good cautionary tale about why we should not jump ahead with what see as solutions especially when they effect something that we cannot fix.
- Swift2, on 07/14/2009, -4/+7This resulted from a totalitarian state where "green" was seen as a petit-bourgeois disease.
- inactive, on 07/14/2009, -3/+5Repeated obvious troll is repeatedly obvious. I can,t believe he didn,t misuse his commas this time though.
- cadcam3d, on 07/15/2009, -0/+1Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aral_Sea worth a look -- not too shocked the part about a "secret Bioweapons facility on the Vozrozhdeniya Island" left waste there too
- bionh, on 07/14/2009, -2/+3well, inland seas will also experience a level increase with global temperature, due to an increase in the amount of evaporation. syntaxgs is a moron for another reason entirely.
- jamauss, on 07/14/2009, -2/+3That's a ton of water to get "diverted" - how the hell did they manage to drain a lake the size of Ireland!?
- MissMeagan, on 07/14/2009, -0/+1Wow is right!
You can't even recognize it in the end! - inactive, on 07/14/2009, -1/+2Wow!
- Ajjah, on 07/14/2009, -2/+3In Soviet Russia, epic scales ***** up you.
- Bulk70, on 07/14/2009, -2/+1That first photo looks like something out of Half Life 2
- surf1punk, on 07/14/2009, -4/+2Those are some big blood splatters
- inactive, on 07/14/2009, -8/+5State-controlled economy works wonders.
- BrokenHertz, on 07/14/2009, -4/+0Yea I misread it. Congrats to them, and you for being here to show me the error of my ways. I am forever indebted to you for saving me from looking like a fool in a comment on digg. Thank you so very much!
- BrokenHertz, on 07/14/2009, -13/+0The World Bank just had to get it's greedy hands involved and kill a patch of Earth.
- syntaxgs, on 07/14/2009, -55/+3this just show what the effect of global warming did too the seas
it not a rise in sea level it a fall of sea level

What is Digg?
