The REAL Energy Crisis
breitbart.com — Bush prety much nails it, " "One interesting thing about American politics these days is those who are screaming the loudest for increased production from Saudi Arabia are the very same people who are fighting the fiercest against domestic exploration, against the development of nuclear power and against expanding refining capacity."

- Propagrandize, on 05/17/2008, -1/+0Middle East oil is a fraction of US imports. I am at a loss for any news reporting as to whether exisiting US wells have been turned up given oil pricing. And speaking of fractions, please explian why deisel is off the charts in term of price given steady demand. The whole issue of oil pricing is whacky as gas is cheaper 2000 miles from refineries.
- endrest, on 05/18/2008, -1/+1Diesel is used more, primarily for shipping goods we need on a daily basis. That's why it's more expensive. Drilling in ANWR will take 3-5 years for the crude to reach a refinery, so that's out of the question for immediate relief, however... The REAL problem is the lack of refineries we need to process the crude to usable gasoline. We lost a lot of infrastructure after hurricane Katrina. Then again, some oil comes out of the ground almost usable as diesel, such as the oil processed via shale. Extraction technologies for extracting from shale have existed for over 50 years. Only now have we considered it feasible, again, primarily because the price of a barrel of oil is near $150/barrel. Or is it over that? I can't keep up.
Nuclear power will be a help, but there's a long wait that involves the regulatory process. Green tech is going to solve this through traditional market forces. Those with the initial capital to try to get their energy usage off-the-grid will be the same as those that were the first adopters of the TV, the microwave, the VCR, etc. Market forces will be boosted by a government that actually doesn't tax these start-ups to death. - adk4200, on 05/18/2008, -0/+0Maybe if you just stopped driving you damn hummers around, and actually you know, conserve.

"those who are screaming the loudest for conservation of energy from American families are the very same people who are driving around the 4X4's and SUV's..."
