(There is no need for "????" in this case...) - dezman2003, on 12/20/2007, -2/+28People who can afford to shop at the sony store do not need a 100 dollar coupon.
- redfan, on 12/20/2007, -6/+31Awesome. Now a Sony TV will only cost me $900 more than any other brand.
- snailian, on 12/20/2007, -5/+21I wonder how much I could sell the coupon for.
- heystoopid, on 12/20/2007, -2/+14Yeah , I would not be unsurprised that the replacement unit comes with a built in root kit and a hard wired permanent digital do not record flag as well !
- anrahman, on 12/20/2007, -4/+14My old Sony TV will probably fetch less than $100 at a garage sale - this gives off that (priceless) 'green' vibe too ;)
- Chompy, on 12/20/2007, -3/+12Unfortunately the coupon is only good at Sonystyle and other Sony-brand outlets, and they mark their stuff up about 50% above retail. I've never understood why anyone buys anything directly from Sony. If it's $1600 at Sam's Club and $1900 at Best Buy, it will be $2600 at sonystyle.com.
- ThEDeMoNKiNg, on 12/20/2007, -1/+9Hmm. There does not seem to be a Canada option. Why do all the the U.S. citizens get all the good crap? NewEgg, Woot, Sony TakeBack, among a endless list of others. WHY? D-:
- socialpyramid, on 12/20/2007, -9/+17Sounds like a great program!

“Sony Take Back”
Companies announce Comprehensive U.S.
Take Back and Recycling Program
Sony Electronics, in partnership with Waste Management Inc. and its wholly owned subsidiary, WM Recycle America, LLC, announces the “Sony Take Back” program, the first national recycling program for post-consumer electronics.
From cameras to televisions, “Sony Take Back” gives Sony customers a free and convenient way to recycle up to five Sony products per day by dropping them off at designated Waste Management eCycling Drop-Off Centers throughout the country. Waste Management currently has 75 electronic recycling collection sites throughout the U.S. and will have one in every state by the end of 2007. Consumers also have the option of shipping their used Sony electronics products to select Waste Management locations.
As the technology industry sees continued growth, the amount of electronic waste is also increasing. A study by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency showed that in 2005, used or unwanted electronics amounted to approximately 1.9 to 2.2 million tons. Of that, about 1.5 to 1.9 million tons were primarily discarded in landfills, and only 345,000 to 379,000 tons were recycled. By recycling old electronic products, useful materials such as glass, plastic, copper wiring – even precious metals – can be collected and re-used in the manufacture of other products. Recycling not only minimizes the amount of waste needed for disposal, it also minimizes the extraction of new raw materials from the earth and resources required for processing.
How the Program Works:
To locate the nearest recycling center to you click here or call 1-877-439-2795.
If you would like to mail your Sony product to us for no-fee recycling, please send it to the closest WM Recycle America eCycling center below:
Where does it mention again, that I get a 100 bucks back? - Asianwaste, on 12/20/2007, -0/+7Oy. A link would've sufficed, but this is above and beyond. Thanks.
- sensia3, on 12/20/2007, -0/+6F'king funny thing is, they have something like 10 recycling centers in Mn, but one in NY/NJ and that is in Ithaca! WTF?
- themastersb, on 12/20/2007, -3/+91. Buy some cheap TVs for less than $100
2. ?
3. Profit - CaviMike, on 12/20/2007, -0/+6You guys get pot. Enough said.
- Zoshchenko, on 12/20/2007, -2/+8I hate to criticize a program that has such good intentions, but it's seriously flawed. First of all, good luck finding a recycling center. I live in Virginia and there are NONE in the entire region. Plus, the $100 is only good off the full MSRP you'll find at the Sony stores. You'll still end up paying way more for a Sony TV than if you do a little price-shopping at the big-box stores. Like I said, major flaws.
- abeg, on 12/20/2007, -0/+5more like $50- $75
Read the fine print
Terms & Conditions
Waste Management will charge a $25-$50 recycling fee for non-Sony television recycling.
Consumers who bring their television to a participating Waste Management facility for recycling between November 15, 2007 and March 15, 2008 will receive a coupon good towards $100 off the qualifying purchase of an HDTV from Sony Style retail (stores, online and telesales) through March 31, 2008. Limitations apply, see below for details.
- xkidace, on 12/20/2007, -0/+5It will cost me more money to drive to the nearest drop-off center, then they would give me for a TV.
- nubbler, on 12/20/2007, -0/+5Well what is everyone expecting. Of course its not as good as it seems. No big company would just give $100 just to make you happy, there will always be something in it for them.
People, these companies do not exist to make you rich, actually quite the opposite. - se1zure, on 12/20/2007, -1/+6For all the people in here saying sony tv's are crap, you obviously havent seen the best of their bravia line.
But of course, the typical digg trend is to hate on sony no matter what. - probrian, on 12/20/2007, -1/+5me TWO!...wait how many do you have again...one or two?
- dezman2003, on 12/20/2007, -2/+6I've walked into the sony store a few times in Canada and everything is retardly expensive. I didn't know about the price matching but I suspect they only sell the expensive products and let other retailers carry the cheap *****, so they can't really price match something they don't carry now can they? Hope this helps you figure it out.
- inactive, on 12/20/2007, -0/+4Why on earth would this get buried? IT WOULD be cool if you could trade in 3 old TVs and get three coupons and get $300 off a new TV. A little dumpster diving on garbage night in a city and you've got yourself a new TV.
- KSUdesigner, on 12/20/2007, -0/+3"Unlike the Take Back program, this new offer allows you to recycle any TV—not just Sony products."
It's not the same program, it builds upon the Take Back program. - aussieNickuss, on 12/20/2007, -0/+3I wouldn't ming getting $100 off a 52" Bravia with my 34cm.
- inactive, on 12/20/2007, -3/+6Sony is not the only one taking back electronics to save the environment Hewlett Packard, Apple and Dell are doing the same thing although they are not offering $100 as far as I know. http://mystarbucks.wordpress.com/2007/11/26/us-rec ...
- bigteebo, on 12/20/2007, -0/+3To me, there's value in reducing clutter in the house, and TVs are no exception. If I didn't have an HDTV already(and gave my old tv to my mom), I would go with the program.
- tnoo, on 12/20/2007, -1/+4As the blurb in the title says: "-like $100 towards a new Sony set to be specific."
Nowhere does it say you get $100 cash back people!
I'm so sick and tired of reading everybody whining on Digg because they don't know how to read. Why don't you people just take the time to read a story before you go crying about everything. - inactive, on 12/20/2007, -1/+31: Go to goodwill, buy console for cheap a$$ ca$h.
2: Go to recycling center, get coupons!
3: Profit! - inactive, on 12/20/2007, -3/+5are they stackable? That would be pretty damn cool.

- Jo9100, on 12/20/2007, -0/+2Yes. RTFA. It's written.
- inactive, on 12/20/2007, -0/+2The style store is a giant rip off on prices. I got a Bravia over Black Friday, and it was $800 less than the site. If they price match, I'd love to see a link. Your better off just recycling yourself of giving it to someone that needs it over Craig's List.
- Jesse801, on 12/20/2007, -0/+1now if only they would drive up to your house and take it from you. The closest center to me is across the state
- Cerebral, on 12/20/2007, -0/+1Or visit the goodwill stores after hours around back and just pick the TVs up for free :)
...not that I know about any of that or anything. - Cerebral, on 12/20/2007, -1/+2Props bro. You supplied with the info asked and yet you still get bashed for giving too much information. Gotta love digg.
- Waterrat, on 12/20/2007, -0/+1 I'd never deal with Sony due to that root kit they put out.
And you better be careful,no telling what will be hidden in that new Sony tv. - inactive, on 12/20/2007, -0/+1Link? I'd love to see that.
- aussieNickuss, on 12/20/2007, -0/+1You have "a dozen or so" TV's lying around?? You must have a LOT of useless space to fill up around your house.
- inactive, on 12/20/2007, -0/+1You too?
- Asianwaste, on 12/20/2007, -0/+1Anyone know the locations for the 79 centers that participate in this program?
- Wolfboy, on 12/20/2007, -0/+1I doubt they will collect many TVs, at least in my part of the country. The recycling centers are way out in the country, pretty much the middle of nowhere. It would take two or three hours for most people to get to them.
- Cerebral, on 12/20/2007, -0/+1Good question... I clicked through everything I could and can find nothing about any $$.
- inactive, on 12/20/2007, -0/+1it's probably better for the environment in the long run too. The TVs that are recycled still have to be processed, possibly releasing the toxic components near the processing site; and the non-recycleable components will end up in a landfill.
Selling it at a garage sale is better all around. Not only do you help somebody out who may not be able to afford anything else, but you re-use something that would otherwise be trash. reduce, reuse, recycle; the order matters.
And hey, don't forget about Craigslist people! They also have a "free" section that is ideal for things like old working TVs and such.. - Myztry, on 12/20/2007, -0/+1And if you don't have an old TV you can just buy a cheap brand new B&W portable for trade in, and still come out ahead :)
- trevz0r, on 12/20/2007, -0/+1I work at a Best Buy store in Canada and we have done several "TV Trade Events" where you get money off your new TV when you bring your old one into the store to be recycled. We have even done is several times on notebooks too...
- probrian, on 12/20/2007, -0/+1who to?
- bbschaefer, on 12/20/2007, -0/+1Pity I live about a 100 miles from any of the approved recycling centers. This is really pretty useless except for those that happen to be in the right place, geographically speaking.
- chroko, on 12/20/2007, -0/+1Ming The Merciless commands you to give him $100 off his 52" Bravia with your 13" - even if you don't want him to.
