- granolajoe, on 07/24/2008, -1/+66I'd convert it and give it to an organization. It's already been made and energy has been used to produce it. At least put it to good use, maybe to haul large things or lots of kids around for a charity
- orlandorays, on 07/24/2008, -4/+53Uhh, no. Blowing it up would be more hazardous to the environment than running it normally.
- cheerio, on 07/24/2008, -9/+35Is that really a question? Hell yes he should. Anything going boom without people in it is a good thing. :P
- inactive, on 07/24/2008, -1/+23What about getting Jonathan Goodwin to rip out the fuel system and put an electric drivetrain in there, like he did with the 60 mpg Hummer hybrid?

- ryaninsocal, on 07/24/2008, -2/+21Thanks George W.
- mikesbaker, on 07/25/2008, -1/+17here is an idea - shove that thing up your ass
/jealous I'm not rich enough to by a 50k+ car and then destroy it for 15 minutes of internet fame (that's only 5 minutes of real life fame) - thelaxdude, on 07/24/2008, -0/+16Screw the guy. He should just sell it...you know, it is what one of those pesky 'R' stands for. REUSE. An awful lot of energy went into making it, doing anything else with it is just a waste.
Failing that, swap out the engine for an efficient diesle and sell it to someone that does need a behemouth four wheeler. - harryterry, on 07/25/2008, -1/+17*****. just give it to me
- inactive, on 07/25/2008, -0/+15Convert it, video all the steps, the cost, the install, then, auction it off to the highest bidder, and give it to a charity. That would do more for people than blowing it up. You hate the fact that it gets 13mpg but you want to blow it up? way to help the environment asshat.
- pittpat, on 07/25/2008, -0/+14I say give it to a charity that can use it or sell it and do something useful with the money. There are too many kids that are hungry, with no place to live for this asswipe to just blow up a $70,000 SUV.
- final_sound, on 07/25/2008, -1/+14blow it up? are you kidding me? blowing up a car will release way more dangerous emissions into the atmosphere than just driving that car for a year would.
jump it into the ocean? we're trying to make a point about not polluting right? are you getting it yet? - shutaro, on 07/24/2008, -5/+18explosions > kids
- edebolt, on 07/25/2008, -0/+13Most older RR's are functionally totaled already. They have very expensive suspension parts which need to be replaced and cost more than the value of the resale. The folly of this is that the production of a car uses as much energy as it does to drive it for 10 years. Blowing it up is dramatic but stupid. Its better to part it out and sell the desirable parts and recycle the remaining scrap. Preventing needless addiitional auto production saves more than converting to something which gets 50% better mileage.... Green decisions for people who failed math.
- GemStar38, on 07/24/2008, -2/+15this is stupid, getting the SUV off the road will just put it in the landfill, how is that helping the environment? Give it to an organization that can do some good with it so they don't have to buy another vehicle.
- gavinhudson, on 07/24/2008, -4/+17OK, awesome idea. One fewer car on the road is great (from my pov as a bicyclist & pedestrian). Explosions are cool too. I wonder if there's a way to destroy it in an environmentally friendly way.
- elephantwaylon, on 07/24/2008, -3/+16If you concern is the environment, blowing up might be fun but probably not the greatest idea. Clearly, however, if you bought 13 MPG in the first place your concern is not being eco-responsible, but rather now that gas prices have gone up you're feeling like it's too spendy. I say give to organization that can use it...there's plenty of great non-profits in need. I'm sure you'll do something crazy random with it, however, since fun seems to be more a priority.
- ryaninsocal, on 07/24/2008, -2/+14Check out the video.
- Mikeblake11, on 07/24/2008, -3/+15Convert it to an 800 HP biodiesel and race the CA Gov in his Hummer while raising money for CA teachers!
- restlessmouse, on 07/25/2008, -2/+14Oh mister high and mighty environment saver. The fact that you would even consider pushing it off a cliff or blowing it up proves that this is just one of those internet projects to generate publicity and/or advertising revenue.
Although I am 100% sure nothing bad will happen to this two-year old expensive luxury vehicle.
Then going on to chastise Ford for "pissing gas out the tailpipe"... You BOUGHT the stupid thing! Did you think it would get 40mpg? Give me a break.
Dugg down for making me want to puke.
- mikesbaker, on 07/25/2008, -0/+10you can say ***** if you want to
- ryaninsocal, on 07/24/2008, -1/+11Not necessarily if it creates more attention that way, causing a larger ripple effect and ultimately causing more conservation than the additional environmental cost of blowing it up. And I like the idea above of finding an environmentally conscious way to blow it up, if that isn't oxymoronic enough for you.
- Hosalabad, on 07/24/2008, -0/+9So what does he need donations for?
- shutaro, on 07/24/2008, -1/+10It'll be fine for the environment, as long as it's an awesome explosion.
- Sharky35, on 07/25/2008, -0/+8He should only blow it up if he promises to be in it when it goes boom.
- linagee, on 07/25/2008, -1/+8Donate it to Mythbusters!
- atact88, on 07/25/2008, -0/+7Hell yeah blow it up! Ignite that gasoline! Do not recycle that metal! Burn the rubber on the wheels for extra black smoke! Light those fluids up for extra toxic fumes! WHOOOOOO WE'RE GOING GREEN BABY
- ryaninsocal, on 07/24/2008, -0/+6Wired article here, in case anyone cares. :)

http://www.treehugger.com/files/2008/07/one-fewer- ... - Ansible, on 07/25/2008, -0/+6Find someone or some organization that needs such a vehicle and sell it to them. This was manufactured with extreme offroad driving in mind, and if that's what it is used for then its existence is justified. If it ends up as a grocery getter, then that's a waste of resources. Range rovers delivering life saving medicines to remote villages, that works for me.
- Benji521, on 07/25/2008, -0/+6Quite the environmentalist wanting to push it into the Pacific. I'm sure that'd be wonderful for the environment. Here's a "craziest idea ever" for you: Take off the Ghost Busters shirt cause its not 1984 any more, buy yourself a non bean bag chair, and quietly donate the car to some kind of charity or organization that could either use it or recycle it properly...
- woodguard, on 07/25/2008, -0/+6Someone has more money then brains!
- techblogLAT, on 07/25/2008, -0/+6Sorry pal. There's plenty of free explosions to be had on the Internet.
- tbk123, on 07/24/2008, -1/+6digg users LOVE explosions
- jamiewalker19, on 07/24/2008, -11/+16Blow it up!
- inactive, on 07/24/2008, -7/+12Yeah! Blow sh** up!
- TimTebow4Life, on 07/25/2008, -1/+6I know this guy doesn't need a car, but I always hate when people think they're "going green" by getting rid of their gas guzzler to purchase a brand-new hybrid. While they may save a little gas mileage, they are making a short-sighted decision and will start to like the smell of their own farts (more so than normal). The amount of energy used to mine the metal for a car, manufacture it, and ship it to the U.S. is astronomical (especially with this monstrosity). The best thing this guy can do is sell it at a discounted price to someone who really can't afford it (just like the house they got with a variable rate mortgage). The buyer will think he looks good but won't be able to afford gas, thereby taking the car off the road. Problem averted without the creation of smug.
- jvredpath, on 07/25/2008, -0/+5Agree with previous posting. Sell it at a discount if you hate it so much. People have no concept of how much energy and natural resources goes into building a car. There has to be some big family out there that lives in the north in Canada or Montana that could use it. There is nothing wrong with an SUV. It's the knuckleheads that buy one that are single and live in a city. Convert ? Convert to what ? Diesel ? more polluting than gasoline even if there were a reasonable conversion kit for less than $10,000. And a diesel engine is no good up north. Natural gas, where are you going to fill up ? People are really losing their minds.
- adikt, on 07/25/2008, -0/+5I think DIGG just got gamed by Range Rover. Free Advertising!
- yersoocrust, on 07/25/2008, -1/+6Grind it up, and put it in the bong.
- ryaninsocal, on 07/24/2008, -1/+6I actually don't drive it anymore. This has nothing to do with gas prices.
- MightyAphrodity, on 07/24/2008, -3/+7DO IT, DO IT, DO IT...
- Diggtatorship, on 07/25/2008, -0/+4"You decide?"
Actually he decides... - gavinhudson, on 07/24/2008, -0/+4Say it on the site. Not here.
- BTConan, on 07/25/2008, -0/+4I use water for other things...
...like recording my music. - dizilbdog, on 07/25/2008, -0/+4Why don't you just make some guy or gal's day who is need of a car and sell it to them for a dollar, and stop being a douche and wining that you have a landrover for *****'s sake I've heard of worse problems in the world.
- DavisFreeberg, on 07/25/2008, -0/+4Two words, Demolition Derby
- Pusod, on 07/25/2008, -0/+3Frankly, I don't care what you do with it you ghostbuster t-shirt wearing, leather bean bag chair sitting, macbook pro typing, pretentious yuppie who's only doing this to get more attention! I know what you can do with your Range Rover... why don't you shove it up your ass!
- TheMachine1, on 07/25/2008, -1/+4Convert it to run on natural gas. If conversion fails use that natural gas to blow it
up. - jamessavik, on 07/25/2008, -9/+12Here's an idea: why not quit being a whiny little enviro-bitch, quit wheedling for publicity and drive your damned vehicle.
A typical Range-Rover costs $50K+ so you can afford the gas.
Buried for being a self-promoting ass wipe. - TehProphet, on 07/25/2008, -0/+3Just give it to me.. I am 17, only vehicle I have is the 77' dodge truck my parents gave me.. it gets even worse mileage than that, and the gas guage doesn't work.. I've had it run out of gas on me before and I had to walk 10 blocks to fill up a 2.5 gallon gas can..
