- inactive, on 07/25/2008, -0/+11Damn it's too bad they didn't have these robotic flying planes to let us know what was causing the glacier over Chicago to melt away 15,000 years ago!
- inactive, on 07/25/2008, -1/+11awesome! this is a great tool for environmentalist gathering evidence of global warming
- inactive, on 07/25/2008, -1/+8A superb idea. The photo of the ice cap definitely shows how dangerous the task would be for a human.
- tbhurst, on 07/25/2008, -2/+8How psyched are you to be the person that grows up and gets a job flying robot planes over the arctic?
- crazyjake, on 07/25/2008, -2/+7hmmm... ice melting in July?!?! i don't believe it!!!
"Data from ice cores indicate that from AD 800 to 1300 the regions around the fjords of southern Greenland experienced a relatively mild climate, with temperatures similar to today." - sjbdallas, on 07/25/2008, -1/+5Oops, you better not post facts that show how climate changes are naturally occurring processes or the alarmists will digg you down.
- mos6507, on 07/25/2008, -0/+4You are a clueless moron.
- ECgulls10, on 07/25/2008, -2/+5robotic planes now thats pretty sweet
- towjam, on 07/25/2008, -2/+5Apparently global warming is not real...its just a phase in the earth's cycle. In other words, this happened before...all this temperature changes and so on.
Its just that most environmentalist don't go back far enough to see that temperature went up and down. - hellahyphy, on 07/25/2008, -1/+4Change your light bulbs or you are causing global warming. LMAO! I want some of that water though. I bet it's better than this bottled ***** I'm drinking.
- peppino, on 07/25/2008, -0/+3That glacial waterway would make one hell of a log ride.
- inactive, on 07/25/2008, -0/+3Wow, Jesus Christ people: the whole point is measuring how much faster Greenland ice is melting than normal. Of course it melts in the summer! It's just melting faster than recorded levels, and scientists (not just "environmentalists") are blown away by the increased pace of this.
- mos6507, on 07/25/2008, -0/+3You are a cluelsss moron.
- DrJG, on 07/25/2008, -1/+3Beautiful photo - why is it that photos of all these endangered places are so beautiful, so it is all the more heartbreaking to think it might be lost soon, and those things that are unattractive are not going to be lost so easily?!!
- MommaLu, on 07/25/2008, -0/+2The more beautiful the place the more we want to live there and ruin it's beauty.
- inactive, on 07/25/2008, -0/+2No way. The Vostok ice cores go back 600,000 years. That's plenty.
- inactive, on 07/25/2008, -2/+4How about it's a great tool for scientists who are measuring how screwed we are?
- VBDon, on 07/25/2008, -1/+3What do they use to take pictures of the glaciers growing in Winter? Oh wait, they don't want to show that ice grows in Winter and melts in Summer. That would expose the idiocy of this.
- rheaume, on 07/25/2008, -0/+2LOL on a hot day doesn't this look like a fun ride?

In actually its death on a stick but still... - biogears, on 07/25/2008, -0/+1FINALLY, Greenland is getting back to normal!
- hominidx, on 07/27/2008, -0/+1False. Fail.
http://mediamatters.org/items/200703230007 - ElectricRebel, on 07/25/2008, -0/+1Here is similar research project that is using UAVs and other robots combined with advanced radar to study the thickness of the ice and the land underneath both Greenland and Antarctica.
https://www.cresis.ku.edu/ - VBDon, on 07/25/2008, -1/+2Especially in winter when the glaciers are growing.
- jgzman, on 07/26/2008, -0/+1At this point, I am unconcerned with the idea of it being cycles, or man made, or whatever else. It is happening. Our civilization is built on the idea that our icecaps are how they are now, that sea-level is where it is, and that the average temperature is as it is now. Or rather, as it was a few years ago.
When the seas rise, the growing areas move, and the weather patterns change, it will not do any good to claim it is just a cycle. - trollick, on 07/25/2008, -0/+1Bird’s eye view or it didn't happen
- mos6507, on 07/25/2008, -0/+1i blame u
- 2oonhed, on 07/26/2008, -0/+1I think if you were to rummage around in the cold case at the store a little more, you would find some perfectly delicious water.
Nobody should have to suck ***** from a bottle. - EntangledPhysx, on 07/25/2008, -1/+2What about the fact that Antarctica is growing with more ice?
Found this on google, couple years old but still true nonetheless: http://www.commondreams.org/headlines05/0520-08.ht ...
It's not like greenland has the only ice on the planet. - biogears, on 07/25/2008, -0/+0Because it's all about feelings
- jp44, on 07/25/2008, -1/+1Dugg for 'robot bird king' in the title
- swrostmore, on 07/25/2008, -0/+1Why bother when they already know that potential causes of Ice Ages and glacial cycles are variations in lithospheric plate configurations, changes in atmospheric and seawater circulation patterns, changes in atmospheric composition, and Milankovitch orbital variations?
- Trent1492, on 07/25/2008, -0/+0Go do a google search on Milankovitch cycles before you go pulling out a logical fallacy such as the Argument From Ignorance.
- psion01, on 07/25/2008, -0/+1How about a great tool for scientists with no agenda one way or the other?
- inactive, on 07/25/2008, -0/+1Lots of cavemen were breathing on it. Melted right away.
- davidryal, on 07/25/2008, -4/+4The air force should use predators to kill global warming without having to send soldiers in.
Or, just arm these planes and take out Greenland's ice sheets before they have a chance to melt. - meekamoo, on 07/26/2008, -1/+1Is it just me or is that logic flawed a bit?
"Scientists think these lakes may be emptying out through the ice and lubricating the bottom of the glacier with water. "
So the sun melts the ice on the surface and evapourates it pretty quickly. How does that have anything to do with the bottom of the glacier? Aren't the bottoms of glaciers usually always flowing water anyways? I mean, isnt that how they move usually?
(off topic this ***** digg comment box is pissing me off. it has to resize itself with every single letter I type! wtf - dont even try backspacing as you can hardly keep up) - scoottie, on 07/25/2008, -1/+1i blame Al Gore
- Doofy, on 07/26/2008, -1/+1Ice melts in summer? Who knew?
- biogears, on 07/25/2008, -0/+0Really! That had to be one heck of a warming trend.
It's interesting to think what the daily chant would be if there was a global cooling crises. Maybe:
'Replace those CF bulbs with Incandescents NOW'
'Buy larger Carbon-based Shoes TODAY!'
'Buy an SUV mail order from Zimbabwe (see Paul McCartney story)
'Kidney Stones to fade away, Doctors and rich hurt worse'
'Way too many polar bears' - VBDon, on 07/25/2008, -2/+2Ice melting in July?? Who would have guessed? Too bad, they never take pictures of Greenland in February. I guess they're afraid of getting frozen to the growing glaciers.
- darthsand, on 07/25/2008, -3/+1oober cool
- dexdigg, on 07/25/2008, -4/+1Jesus...IT'S ***** SUMMER! Ice melts in summer.
