- addictedidol, on 10/12/2007, -5/+62It is a marvelous shot, but anyone else bugged out about the quality?
Imagine that but in 1-2 gigapixel quality! Pure madness. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14yeah i too will comment about the low quality, if i ever make it to the top of Mount Everest, i will take a nice camera :-)
now... just to get to the top.... - etruscan, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12Better QT version:
http://www.panoramas.dk/fullscreen2/full22.html - rockforever, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12I was sitting here, waiting for it to finish loading, then realized it was done. I know its a panorama, but damn.
- muted0, on 10/12/2007, -5/+14Everest is tall.
- spin, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10true, those are not what I'd consider high res. It would be awesome if he made a higher res version available so I could use it as a wall paper.
Here are some 3200x1200 dual screen wallpapers I made from 360 panoramas. It is not Everest, and I am not a professional, but I am getting better. These were done in the hills of North Carolina(accept the utah one). http://spinink.net/gallery/view/wallpapers/ - Dested, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Finally, a panoramic where I can see the curvature of the earth.

http://img155.imageshack.us/img155/4849/mteveresttc5.jpg - dgblackout, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6woah, that's gotta be the world's hardest photo to take.
just lugging a camera and tripod up everest is a lot. - weijie90, on 10/12/2007, -5/+11Oh yeah! Everest is tall! Thank you for enlightening us!
- grammarpolice, on 10/12/2007, -6/+11Seriously, I would think a gigapixel picture would be more than 156KB.
By the way, thanks gangals. - dreamlayers, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5It's a beautiful scene, but what a horrible JPEG artifact mess. If you have QuickTime (I think QuickTime Alternative can't display panoramas) then instead check out: http://www.panoramas.dk/fullscreen2/full22.html
- TheSurfer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Thats Makalu 8.475 meters, Everest is 8.848
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4"but anyone else bugged out about the quality? "
it's because it's really old. about early 90s. - Romanito, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4The sky gets really dark up there.
It really feels like you only need a small jump to reach space.
... or maybe he just used too many polarizing filters. - nikkie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4@spin Normally I'd digg you down for promoting your website in the comments, but those pictures are gorgeous! Thanks!
- djchester, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Great, now I don't have to climb up there out of curiosity of how the view looks like..
- TheSurfer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Read my post just a little highder up
- je12u, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Just think, another few years and we can white water raft down the entire mountain
~wipes away a tear~ - StudlyChris, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Digging just for the fact that the link takes you directly to the picture (which is very cool regardless of the quality).
- TheSurfer, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5First of all it is inappropriate to just rip of an image and post it without any copyright information like this.
My QTVR version at http://www.panoramas.dk is made with permission from the photographer and you can read all about him and how it was made on the page. http://www.panoramas.dk/fullscreen2/full22.html There is also a link to his site where you can buy it as a large poster. It has been online since the anniversary in 2003. - mapkinase, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2In the "Everest on the sea-level plane" model, you can see as far as >300 km from the top.
- FlapJaw, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Yeah, does it? That's amazing. And it doesn't look that high since everything around Everest is high too..
- Koray, on 10/12/2007, -5/+7I had a Nepalese boss once. Can I play?
- ISEEDEADPEOPLE, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Nothing personal mate but that doesn't look bugger all like Everest, Don't get me wrong I have been to the Tirol's and they are beautiful but nothing on the Himalayans
- RawShark, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Something I have wondered:
It takes about 2 months to climb Mt. Everest. Most of that time is spent simply acclimating your body to the high altitude. If you flew from sea level to 30,000 feet, you would die within a couple of hours. So you have to spend about 2 months at the different base camps, living in the snow, the cold, with nothing but mountains to look at.
When a climber summits, do they really say to themselves, "WOW! Look at the view! Look at the mountains! It's so beautiful." I know you want to take a picture after so much effort, at least to say you've been there. But I think the experience would be somewhat disappointing. "This is the same ***** I've been looking at for 2 months." - AkiraXXX, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3"Made it, ma! Top of the world."
- loveandrockets, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Imagine a commercial jet coming right for you, that's how tall it is young Timmy.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4@kwood: On Digg and from Nepal. I myself am residing in UK at the moment.
- elik, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Even better, they tend to leave a lot of garbage about before dying. If you're a sadomasochist though, it's some of the best fun to be had.
- coldskool, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Does the sky really start appearing black when you get up that high? Crazy..
- Sazzle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Im down with the wallpaper idea. 360 degrees, all four walls = TEH AWESOME. Also a good way to decorate one's cube, methinks.
- universltravlr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1complain about the quality but just getting a DSLR up there would be difficult if not impossible. on the discovery channel special. the day they summited was an 18 hour roundtrip in temps around -40.
- Shirokun, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1it looks like there is a higher mountain than the everest (where the photo was taken from) at the left of the photo :P
- prammy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yea I know its not high res but wow. Everytime we think of all the marvels humanity has built, something like this always takes my breath away.
- ohsofancy, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4Now I can cross "Climb Mount Everest" of my to do list.
- KillerLettuce, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@loveandrockets
Acually I think a commercial jet would be about 10,000ft above you. If your talking about jumbo jets - Nerys, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1So anyone got a link to something a bit higher res or some kind of contact info to the original photographer so I can get a higher res version ?
- peletiah, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1hehe, well, ok. their glaciers are still intact, unlike ours, i admit...
- JorgeGT, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1They don't make such movies nowadays...
- counterplex, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@etruscan
That site has a number of other very good panoramas as well... Thanks! - elik, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Usually, you're too hypoxic to think any of those things...
- Shirokun, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@TheSurfer
Thanks! ^^ - oMeSSiaHo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I dont they really do it for the view, they do it for the challenge. I guess they also do it because not many people have actually made it to the top.
- Mikecol, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Warning: etruscan's QT link resizes browser window.
- rowlodge, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1can't believe how many amateurs take trips up there like it was a fun park, only to die.
- saleem, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2first thought if i took that picture and saw the world beneath me: "I win."
- dreamlayers, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I find that QuickTime works fine with Firefox on Windows XP. However, I have to agree that QuickTime has some issues. Starting with 7.0 it couldn't properly play MPEG4 audio from recordings made by my digicam, and later versions can't play 640x480 30fps MPEG4 video on an Athlon64 3800+. Mplayer plays it well, and it uses a fairly small percentage of CPU time. The only reason I have QuickTime is because I like QTVR panoramas.
- DudeRoks, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1So this is what the top of the world looks like, huh!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+6I am from Nepal. Am I the only Nepalese person on digg? Let's find out.
