- JCSaint, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9That's my favorite too. Makes you want to know how it got there.
- notjamt9000, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11This greasemonkey script helps if you don't want to click all the mirrors - it displays images in digg comments

http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/7714 - drewpost, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I'm REALLY curious where in Africa this is and how those big ass ships got there!
- neave, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7The server's a bit dodgy, it works if you reload a few times. Otherwise try http://duggmirror.com/environment/PICTURES_Beautiful_Air_Scenes_of_Africa/

Flickr Stream: http://www.flickr.com/photos/poliza/page2/ - merripen, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7The saturation slider makes everything beautiful.
- DrScott, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7First one looks like the mapping of a neuron. Or possibly something quantum. Brilliant.
- andreib, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Here's the link to the ship on Google maps
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=-23.99604038+14.45733994&layer=&ie=UTF8&om=1&z=18&ll=-23.996197,14.457493&spn=0.002945,0.007639&t=h&iwloc=addr
or just type -23.99604038 14.45733994 in the search box and hit the search maps button.
The author of the photographs has diary with Google Earth information for each stage of the helicopter flight across Africa. Here's the web page:

- KorakTarzan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6 Unlike the big media, I am glad some guys could see some beautiful things out of Africa which is not about AIDs or wars. I lived in Africa many year, The continent is more larger than its representation in western media....even recently the Chinese govt (the Asian powerhouse) tagged Africa as the "Land of Myth and Miracles" ..I think we need to take a close to the countries in that continent...
see related article: http://www.wsws.org/articles/2006/nov2006/afri-n15.shtml - extremer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4is the link really need after your name?
- Agret, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Comment hijacking but if you want the high res versions of these pics the photographers flickr page is:

I'm using the ship one as my wallpaper now =D Oh yeah, the photographer also has notes about the photos. - syphron12, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Why are you writing poetry on a Digg page? Go on deviantART ^_^.
- phoZoN, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5is it just me or do they look like computer rendered images?
nvm great pics - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5http://www.frogview.com.nyud.net:8080/show.php?file=1745
- chicken101, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Wow, some of the rhinos look like leeches from that distance.
- wooties, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6@ anomalya
dude, you're linking pics from burning man. not Africa, dork. - DiggsOnlyNeoCon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Some of those pictures look like an RTS.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4finally some well worth it pictures, not dumb "title explains it all pcis"
- rnwen2750, on 10/12/2007, -8/+11Wow... Talk about ignorance. How about doing something to help, not just bashing stuff, kay?
- Yusayoh, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Will anyone care to buy me a couple of tickets to Africa? These are certainly amazing! =D
- kilps, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3What's wrong is that not everyone is dying and not everyone is fighting (i'm not trying to downplay what is happening ... it is a problem) ... and wild animals DO NOT roam the streets ... in most countries.
Just do your research and you'll have an amazing holiday ... I recommend going to South Africa - just because I live here :) - dle5, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5"Talk about ignorance."
Ignorance indeed. Care to explain what was incorrectly stated? - Platysquirrel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3The is a large boat, and relatively undamaged compared to when you said the drought was. This was more recent.
- bbhh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2if i'm not mistaken it is the Skeleton Coast. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skeleton_Coast

Re the ship in the desert: "Shipwreck of Eduard Bohlen ... This freighter ran aground south of Conception Bay in 1909, Namibia".
I see icoms already posted a link to Michael Poliza's flickr pages. Worth repeating tho, because his photos are worth looking at, and flickr has enough server horsepower to survive digg. - aroundtown, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The ship reminds me of Close Encounters
- MindStalker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Not really all that misterious. A dried up bay or river essentially. Still curious exactly WHERE though, as too find it on google maps would rock.
- BenKenobi88, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2that it does

- PYREX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1so this is what it looks like to aliens
- PunkPortrais, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I miss the rains down in Africa.
- spiffytech, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Reminds me of "Five weeks in a Balloon" by Jules Verne
- JoeCool1986, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1it's Noah's ark!!
- MarkCiccone, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm pretty sure the last two were photoshopped images from Google Earth, I have the African Animals bookmark and the Elephant tab has a picture almost exactly like the last picture.

http://www.flickr.com/photo_zoom.gne?id=277321587&size=o - Scytle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The boat could have gotten there because that used to a channel that lead to the sea, this is not the first time this has happened. In Russia the Aral sea used to provide much water for farming and because they used too much of it to irrigate the land the boats were left high and dry. You can find more info here.

- Vasant56, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This ship is probably there just because the coastline changed... I would still love to learn more about it though
- Dotmeister, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Wow...boobies on the third one posted by anomalya...
- RJNavarrete, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Can I get some help over here? I seem to find myself stunned to the point of paralysis. Damn stunning pics.
