- witcompe, on 10/12/2007, -2/+99As an Air Traffic Controller, I see these pictures and think to myself, "It's going to be a long day..."
- ihaveplans, on 10/12/2007, -5/+83Please concentrate on keeping the plans from crashing and stop browsing Digg.
- anagoge, on 10/12/2007, -1/+41Digg is turning into one big forwarded email.
- chazzy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+33These photos are reposted from the original photographer's site, who has many more impressive photos:

THANK YOU for doing what you do. I could never conceive of operating under that sort of constant pressure.
- wvdavis, on 10/12/2007, -1/+18Better here than in my 'In' box.
- ybrugman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16Breathtaking photos, most are of tornadoes forming.
In picture 5 you can see a hook cloud forming,a signs of a tornado being formed, and having lived on the prairies i look at that and think...oh ***** - Spooky, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13As a geek gamer I look at these and say damn, will I loose power or my broadband connection?
- usherzx, on 10/12/2007, -8/+21As a Civilian, I see comments on Digg made by Air Traffic Controllers and it makes me wonder whose controlling the air traffic while you guys are on Digg.
Please don't forget to look over your shoulder to check and see how the planes are doing every once and a while... - superal1394, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11Why do the plains always have the cool looking storms? here in upstate new york, all it does is rain. really hard. for a long time.
- dmurray14, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9good call guys, i'm so glad you're looking out for us. seeing as air traffic controllers must be working 24x7, hearing from one on here must mean they are not doing there job. it's not like they might not be working at this time...
- kravex, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8"Go on, clear off! Bloody weather"
(Monty Python, Holy Grail) - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+9I like where this thread is going
- ComradeCreed, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I don't know why, but the first picture is both beautiful and disturbing to me. Just imaging stands under or even close to one of those sends shivers down my spine.
- robman8023, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4If I had a nickel for every time I've had these pictures emailed to me or seen them on the internet, I'd have like $0.35.
They were forwarded to me with a headline saying they were pictures of Katrina, which as we all know is Bravo Sierra.
Buried as duplicate. - dbanshe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3@ ybrugman
Those are called wall clouds, hooks can only really be seen on radar. - Osiriscky3, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Also, as an Air Traffic Controller I look at this and laugh because I think of all the pilots who think they can fly through it.
- VipeNess, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3ohhhh... funnel clouds... mostly when you see these, seek shelter right away, espically the green in the sky is the sign of a tornado.
- djkritikal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3"What a way to make it to the front page! I'll just steal someone else's images!!!"
- bobdole369, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Most of these pics are showing wall clouds. These are the precursors to tornadoes forming:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wall_cloud
In the Wikipedia image, the wall cloud is on the left portion of the image, while a tail cloud comes off the backside of it to the right. A tail cloud is NOT a tornado. Look closely at the center of the image to see tiny projections formed by downdrafts. Its these projections that are the most likely area for a funnel cloud and later a tornado to form.
Don't confuse a wall cloud with a shelf cloud, you can tell the difference by where its at: Shelf clouds form at the front side of the storm, Wall clouds typically at the tail end. Shelf clouds don't form tornadoes. - mesoed, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Uhm... there is no such thing as a hook cloud. A hook echo on radar, but no hook cloud. A wall cloud? Yes.
- 1337gmr, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Is it just me or does the first picture look like the space ship is coming from Independence day!?!?!?
Great shots. - archick, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1wow! nice pictures
- tuzziel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I am very happy not to see such things around here.
- burkay, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2The one before the last one is a pirate!
- wvdavis, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2*This* is why I don't live in Kansas!!!
- barbarac, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Posted b4 or not, those photos make me feel very very small each time I see them.
- UO07, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1until your mobile home gets plowed down by a tornado that is.
- mhummel, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Watching a wall cloud form in front of your very eyes has the same effect, even if you aren't that close. Maybe it's the big mass of rotating clouds...
- knowicki, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Amazing!
- holyskeleton, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1um...ya its kinda suck if you ever get stuck in one of those...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1as a storm watcher i look at those and say ok time to sound the tornado warning
- witcompe, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2For everyone who said that I should be watching the planes and the radar screens instead of posting on Digg... I would like to say that I work 8 hrs out of the day, 16 hrs I am at home. At my house, I have a computer and internet access. With said computer I check Digg. In the tower we do not have a computer hooked up to the internet. On lunch, I will take my MacBook to the terminal and access the WiFi there though...
- quantumHobbit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Amazing /=Awesome
I know this is a petty commont but at least it is less so than the above. - dvdave, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I live in L.A. and we just don't see that here. If I ever did, it would freak me out! Looks like the beginning of the "War of the Worlds."
- siszam, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Beautiful pictures! Sigh. I miss the south and all the wonderful stormy weather. I live in SoCal now. If it sprinkles rain people lose their minds and start crashing their cars into each other.
- thankyousir, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0These pictures are amazing. There is nothing that strikes fear in me more than a storm front or a mesocyclone.
- DeskFlyer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Comment buried because it is a badass link that many people probably haven't seen before because they don't keep track of every single webpage in the intertubes. Mother Nature FTW.
- DeskFlyer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0If I saw that in person, I'd crap myself.
- Hiros, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Very very nice images of storms!
- jimbo100, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0the sixth one down looks like something out of War Of The Worlds.
- richardbutler, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Not to take away from how awe-inspiring these images are, but how many times are they going to get to the front page of Digg?
- caitlin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Beautiful photos.
- gaiden2k5, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The 3rd till last reminds me of the movie Independence Day, awsome photos
