Neglected Horses Turn to Cannibalism

    Humans may be at the top of the food chain- but they certainly are not anywhere near the top of the cool chain.

  • zeiben, on 01/12/2008, -0/+10Unfortunately, this goes on everywhere - race horses, work horses, unwanted riding horses - there's a huge volume of these animals that are dragged around in all kinds of pitiful state until they get sold for meat or dog food and slaughtered, usually in a half-assed way. Then there's all the unwanted offspring of mares that they have to keep pregnant to harvest urine (for premarin, a hormone supplement). And then you just have the odd redneck farmer who gets too many animals, can't care for them, and just leaves them to suffer in a box out of shame.
    We use these animals for our recreation and amusement, and they're pretty generous with us - they deserve a little care and a death with dignity.
