That was one crazy storm - my power went out, but thankfully it came on a few hours later! - ohnoerino, on 08/06/2008, -0/+16Re: #2...it's always amazes me when the sky turns grape-purple like that. It's happened a few times this summer.
- sandiegodude, on 08/06/2008, -0/+15Awesome shots. I really wish they had a lil higher resolution though. I'd love to use some of those for a new desktop background.
- BrentDPayne, on 08/06/2008, -1/+15***** awesome pics! I live in downtown Chicago and experienced this sucker first hand. The best thunderstorm I have ever been in. Sirens, thunder shaking the floor and cracking so loud it literally makes you jump, wind so intense that I thought I was going to create my own mini-tornado when I opened the windows to my 28th floor apartment.
Awesome photos of an amazing storm! - inactive, on 08/06/2008, -1/+10Fantastic photos.
This was an incredibly powerful storm. Because of the wind and tornado sirens in the heart of Chicago, my wife and I had to wake up our daughter and hunker down in the hallway of our condo building.
Meanwhile, meteorologists later reported that outside there were 800 lightning strikes a minute during the height of this storm, and 90,000 lightning strikes in a four-hour period -- a number more in keeping with SIX MONTH'S worth of lightning for northern Illinois, all in four hours. - MMorJon, on 08/07/2008, -0/+7WTF is LOLcat doing in #3?
- kbu79, on 08/06/2008, -1/+8Cool photos! The view from my place Monday was insane! Wish I would've taken some pictures but I was too busy heading to safety once the tornado sirens went off.
- billbugger, on 08/06/2008, -2/+7If lightening stuck the photos, then how are we able to see them?
- dobry, on 08/07/2008, -0/+5good thing it waited for lollapalooza to be over :)
- leerayIG88, on 08/06/2008, -2/+6"Lightning striking again"
- Wootstapler, on 08/07/2008, -0/+4That storm was ***** insane! The block across from my street was covered on the news, and was reported that a tornado touched down in that area. At least 10 houses had roof damage, someones chimney was leveled, trees were snapped in half.
- xnathanielx, on 08/07/2008, -0/+4Great photos! Sitting through this massive storm was awesome too. Had lightning strike right across the street. The tornado sirens in Chicago were goin' off!
- Pvisi111, on 08/06/2008, -2/+5Sick photos
- burstaneurysm, on 08/07/2008, -0/+3That was one of the most impressive storms I have ever lived through. The lightning was utterly gorgeous!
- martyFREEDOM, on 08/07/2008, -0/+3I was out on a smoke break from school when that storm hit. About five minuted before the clouds rolled into the loop, the tornado sirens went off, and didn't stop for about 20 minutes. They reminded me of something out of Silent Hill, it got eerily dark really fast.
- WantToPlay, on 08/06/2008, -2/+5Amazing........and I thought Florida had bad lightning...

"Damnit - the black wire is the hot one! I said give me the ground. Yes, Gabriel! The one with no freaking insulation on it!" - connieLingus, on 08/07/2008, -0/+2i was there on randolph drive floor 28 when the storms came...the bolt that hit the sears towers started a fire on top of the antenna that lasted about 30 seconds. incredible show...
- bouche, on 08/07/2008, -0/+2that's some freaky numbers.
- nick2, on 08/07/2008, -0/+2I am in western Kenosha county (hour north of Chicago in Wisconsin) and the sky was constantly lit up. It was pretty cool and scary

They had 2 tornado warnings go off, 2 rain delays and a bolt of lightning that hit the scoreboard. When the last lightning bolt came down before the stoppage, the catcher for the Astros high tailed it out of there, and the pitcher stood there wondering who to throw to.
- goddessophia, on 08/07/2008, -0/+1I love lighting and it seems to like me... at least once it tried!
- novivo, on 08/07/2008, -0/+1Ya it was pretty crazy. I was trippin on acid all night. Beautiful.
- cquilliam, on 08/07/2008, -0/+1Wow, we don't have anything like this here, which really sucks. Actually, I remember about 6 years ago during an afternoon storm you could see chain-lightening. But, most times, the sky just flashes and that's about it :(
- Lynx55, on 08/07/2008, -0/+1I LOVE lightning photos...HATE actual lightening ( was under a metal awning once, getting out of the rain, when lightening hit the awning. My sneakers were smoking. No *****. Hey I was 15...what did I know? ) Wish these were desktop size. I resized one, but of course, too blurry, and I don't feel like messing with it! Thanks though, great photos!
- petro62, on 08/07/2008, -0/+1I was in Chicago for Lollapalooza and was running back to the girls friends apartment right as this storm hit. It was a pretty freaky storm. I am used to them from the small town I live, but it is totally different in a big city like that. While the lightening is neat I think the cloud formations in those pics is what is both the coolest and scariest. All sorts of amazing stuff. We went out after the storm and had to search for places that had power to eat at. Neat to watch the sky stay blue though.
- smackythefrog, on 08/07/2008, -0/+1Man, I'm in the suburbs and it really was scary. I have never been in anything like that before, I honestly thought that a tornado had touched down down the street from me.
- cnot3, on 08/07/2008, -1/+2Holy *****. God uses 4chan.
- revanrules, on 08/07/2008, -0/+1any full res images?

- coheedcollapse, on 08/07/2008, -2/+1My friends were at a Cubs game when this was happening. They called me with the tornado sirens blaring in the background.
