- vassoom, on 08/18/2008, -1/+237Do you think the lightning made an incidental glass sculpture where it hit the sand? He should dig it up! (No pun intended.)

IT'S GON RAIIIIIIIN - BillyB, on 08/18/2008, -0/+174Pretty impressed with how quickly the camcorder adjusted the exposure for the brightness of that bolt.
- diggmachinee, on 08/18/2008, -8/+159I bet that was 1.21 gigawatts...

- lamiaconfitor, on 08/18/2008, -5/+64OOOOOhhh mmmmyyyyyyy fffffffffuuuuuuuucccccckkkkkkkkiiiiiiinnnnnnnggggggg GGGGGGGGGoooooooooodddddddd!
- Battlecry, on 08/18/2008, -1/+58I was thinking the same thing. When lightning hits sand it sometimes turns to glass, called a flugurite, and is worth a fair bit of money :)
- damntourists, on 08/18/2008, -1/+55that loud boom and crackling sound was actually the sound of him ***** himself violently.
- handheldchimp, on 08/18/2008, -2/+54Knowing me, I would have gone out to the sand to see if it had turned into a glass crater.
- Elliuotatar, on 08/18/2008, -0/+47Why? Do you jitter a lot when you *****?
- stuffradio, on 08/18/2008, -3/+50Can I have $50,000 /week for 25 years?
- FoxOrian, on 08/18/2008, -1/+47That guy got a pretty lucky shot!
A lightning bolt hit the apartment building across from my window the other day. Lightning that strikes that close makes absolutely amazing sounds that you just can't really experience anywhere else except from a real mother-nature lightning strike. It scared the ***** out of me because I barely had any time to react when I saw the flash, but I just sat at my desk staring wide-eyed at where it struck in complete utter amazement.
[Anyone else around here in the Boston, MA area knows we've had a strange increase in lightning storm activity this summer. -- not that I'm complaining, I think lightning and thunder makes a day more interesting!] - flxfxp, on 08/18/2008, -2/+47Can you give me a slomo rick roll?
- handheldchimp, on 08/18/2008, -6/+50I believe it's Jigawatts.

- FreeTalkLIve, on 08/18/2008, -1/+33Someone invent a lightning catcher to power the world and stuff.
It's sad to see all of that power just pissed away. - mycartel, on 08/18/2008, -3/+29i was hoping for 7 slow-motion replays, each of which were slightly slower than the last

That said, - would you have ventured out into the water ata time like that!!?? - gn0stik, on 08/18/2008, -0/+22I'm surprised that the camera didn't wig out, or shut off. All that em in the air after a lightening strike must be huge. That dude's got some solid nerves and good ***** camera.
- Fapsauss, on 08/18/2008, -3/+25the "glass" that is formed is called lechatelierite. people will pay outrageous prices for a big enough piece. id love to make a bong out of one. how many people could say they have a bong blown from lightning???

- Brocclibob, on 08/18/2008, -0/+20I had one strike near my house earlier this year. I don't think I have ever heard anything more earth-shatteringly loud in my life.
Humans have nothing on Mother Nature. - kaykfrink, on 08/18/2008, -1/+20Is that really a trick? I remember doing that when I was 10 with my VCR.
- Scynet, on 08/18/2008, -1/+20It's actually a lot more.
"...this works out to approximately one gigavolt (one billion volts) for a 300 m (1000 ft) lightning bolt. With an electric current of 100 kA, this gives a power of 100 terawatts."
100 terawatts = 100 000 gigawatts
