- BigManOnCampus, on 11/18/2008, -31/+54Sounds odd in America, it must be all those obese children going without a second breakfast for the first time in their lives.
- Christianptriot, on 11/18/2008, -13/+35Interesting where our government - the "We the People" - decides to place so much money to solve such a horrific situation: Wall Street.
Many American children don't eat right or enough, and yet fat-cat stock brokers adn financial execs are stuffing their fat faces with $300 bottles of wine and other fine foods, while children in their own states go hungry. - inajeep, on 11/18/2008, -4/+25Your 'lots of' is a few hundred or lower thousands. I take it you have a license for all those activities too... Cities and their suburbs hold millions of people from all levels of society. If everyone goes out to fish or hunt you wouldn't find a rat, rabbit or pigeon within a 10 mile radius of a city in a month.
Your grasp of reality, my friend is in question. - scottknick, on 11/18/2008, -9/+29Correct, and as long as Republicans support policies that keep these people in poverty, the hungry will continue to vote Democratic.
- alais, on 11/19/2008, -6/+26"Has your child complained of hunger in the past year".
That's pretty much every kid in the country. - inactive, on 11/19/2008, -2/+18If only Focus on the Family, the Catholic Church and the Mormons had spent their Prop 8 money on feeding the hungry instead of promoting hate.
Too bad we don't have some sort of book that could have given them guidance on this... - johnnr2, on 11/18/2008, -1/+15FTA:
The findings should increase pressure to meet President-elect Barack Obama's campaign pledge to expand food aid and end childhood hunger by 2015, said James Weill, president of the Food Research and Action Center, an anti-hunger group.
He predicted the 2008 numbers will show even more hunger because of the sharp economic downturn this year. - manstein01, on 11/19/2008, -1/+15Knew many kids back in school who had little food. Most of the time it was because their parents just did not give two ***** about feeding them - they needed cigarettes/drugs instead.
- johnnr2, on 11/18/2008, -4/+16"Poverty is the worst form of violence" - Mohandas Gandhi
- pe5t1lence, on 11/19/2008, -0/+11I have a Modest Proposal for you...
- deadbaby, on 11/19/2008, -8/+19How much of that is parents who can't afford food vs. parents who prefer to buy lottery tickets & alcohol instead?
- RobotBuddha, on 11/19/2008, -0/+9They're kids, who cares what country they were born in. Really, when it comes to suffering, who cares what particular plot of land anyone is on.
- evilrevolution, on 11/18/2008, -5/+13when I was a kid I was hungry all the time.
- 3gibberish4q57, on 11/19/2008, -1/+9If we allowed for child labor these freeloading kids would be able to buy their own scraps of food.
- inactive, on 11/18/2008, -5/+13"The poor you will always have with you." I'm not convinced that government can do anything about this problem. We're still fighting that "war on poverty" you know, and all we have to show for it is the gangrene called "thug life".
- RobotBuddha, on 11/19/2008, -1/+8The discarded food angle confused me a bit too. I've known a fair amount of hippies who pretty much lived off food from dumpsters.
- SSPink, on 11/18/2008, -4/+11The president is a Republican.
Unless... is Bush one of the republicans that changed their party affiliation this election cycle? Is he a democrat now?
If so, it is a great plan, start the revisionist history early, start calling G. W. Bush a democrat and blame the democratic party for all of his mistakes... well done, republicans, well done. - jitterbits, on 11/19/2008, -0/+7"The fact that people choose to live in places where you cannot provide for yourself is not my fault."
Yeah, those people too poor to eat should go rent a u-haul and move to another state because that's a much simpler solution!
Oy vey. - jacked, on 11/19/2008, -0/+7Some of the hunger problem might be due to the way they determine their numbers. The last study on "America's hungry children" that I saw included all children that had, at any time in the past week, been hungry. (I think it was a week, it might have been something else.)
Well, of course they were hungry at some point, but then they ate something! I wonder if this study did the same sort of thing, simply to make the number impressive. - NinaOdell, on 11/19/2008, -1/+8If I had a dollar for every story of a mission tying food to prayer or acceptance of Jesus Christ, I'd have enough money to feed 10 kids for a year.
- RobotBuddha, on 11/19/2008, -0/+7iDepressed.
- inactive, on 11/19/2008, -2/+9Really? Got any evidence to back that claim?
Focus on the Family is having to LAY OFF people because they spent too much money on hate. They just made a whole bunch more families poor. Good job, stupid bigots. - BeaverBoy, on 11/19/2008, -0/+7Depression 2.0
- NinaOdell, on 11/19/2008, -1/+7Do you live in America? Let's talk about the Appalachians for a minute, or rural Arizona, or ANYWHERE rural and desolate in America...
Nah, let's not.
I think you should get out more. - inactive, on 11/19/2008, -0/+6Just as long as that local food pantry doesn't feed hungry gays.
- Myztry, on 11/19/2008, -3/+9There's no genuine starvation in any western part of the world.
It's not like people are picking rich grain out of dirt in a barren landscape.
There's enough discarded consumable food in countries like America, Australia, etc to feed entire starving nations like Ethiopia or the like.
The concern is over luxuries - not essentials... - NinaOdell, on 11/19/2008, -0/+6Then this bi-racial, bi-sexual, liberal is moving to Alaska! YEE HA!
- KingGorilla, on 11/19/2008, -0/+6ADOPTING ANY CHILD IS ADMIRABLE! There are worst people to criticize than people who want to shelter, feed and love an unwanted child
- unpolloloco, on 11/18/2008, -5/+11I'd agree, except for the fact that democrats tend to support other policies that do the exact same thing.
- Wholekernalcorn, on 11/19/2008, -3/+8Americans are rich, poor, fat, ugly, beautiful, hungry, stupid, smart, hopeful, despaired, changed, static, fascist....We're everything!
- jitterbits, on 11/19/2008, -2/+7And here's the source to back up gnocchi (mmmmm, gnocchi!) before someone comes back scoffing:
http://coloradoindependent.com/15287/after-pumping ...
(LOL) - strangewill, on 11/19/2008, -0/+5Yes, your grasp of reality is skewed, our society cannot support everyone living in rural environments.
- NinaOdell, on 11/19/2008, -0/+5It's simple.
Cheap food makes you fat.
Walk into your average grocery store and prove me wrong.
The cheapest food is almost always loaded with carbohydrates, fat, or sugar. Plus these foods stave off hunger pains the longest.
If you want to look at something, look at Malnutrition in America. Fat kids aren't just unhealthy because they're fat, they're unhealthy because they're dangerously malnourished. - blitzkriegpunk, on 11/19/2008, -0/+5Beta
- JulioHJ, on 11/19/2008, -0/+5if it was it would be eaten by the starving children
- cosmicv, on 11/19/2008, -0/+5No doubt...you know these surveys are done by asking people "Has your children even told you they were hungry?"...which of course pretty much every child has said before.
- kindpastor, on 11/19/2008, -0/+5See this book:
http://www.amazon.com/How-Lie-Statistics-Darrell-H ... - Myztry, on 11/19/2008, -1/+6My dogs eat much better than people from genuine starving nations.
Their is quite often food left on peoples' plates after a meal.
Even expensive meals at restaurants are rarely finished.
It's still good food, and I'm not just talking spoiled food goods.
Their is massive amounts discarded fresh off the plate. - AWBoy666, on 11/19/2008, -3/+8To CNN, it doesn't make a difference. They're just trying to prove their liberal point.
- JenniferInMO, on 11/19/2008, -0/+5Where are the Christians and the Mormons? You know, those people are so busy spending millions of dollars and thousands of volunteer hours to deny same sex couples the right to marry? Those same people who protest outside of abortion clinics and attack our laws in an attempt to force women to bring unwanted children into the world? Where are they while our children are starving? I am going to post a link to this article on all of those insane WND articles which bash gays and talk about infanticide.
- AWBoy666, on 11/19/2008, -1/+5Thank you!
- humanstruggle, on 11/19/2008, -3/+7Scoffing at hungry children in this country where we have so much food...where we feed half of the world is disgusting. I hate the trends of child hate ... people who employ it are truly heartless bastards and that wasn't meant as a compliment to your screwed life views.
- dark1587, on 11/19/2008, -1/+5Ahh another Jonathan Swift fan? Trippy.
- danwgre, on 11/19/2008, -2/+6Well, I am drinking a $300 bottle of wine right now....the bouquet is a little off though, so I'm just going to throw it out. Mewhahaha!
- inactive, on 11/19/2008, -0/+4Welcome to the streets. :)
- kindpastor, on 11/19/2008, -1/+5Wouldn't most starving Africans just pretend to like Jesus in order to get food?
- danwgre, on 11/19/2008, -0/+4Man, there is a fine line between hippie and homeless
- jasdf, on 11/19/2008, -0/+4I would almost be willing to bet on it.
The researcher asks the kid if they were hungry last week, the kid says yes. End of conversation. They didn't hear that the kid then ate to satisfy their hunger. - inactive, on 11/19/2008, -2/+6
(LOL) - psteve4, on 11/19/2008, -1/+5I didn't mean to give the impression that the people who adopt from other countries are doing a bad thing, I just think it causes people to overlook a problem that does exist in our country, which many people don't believe is going on.
