I doubt they'd eat Michelle, though I'm sure the irony would be rich.
No, Rep. Bachmann would do well to sell the positive effects of oil itself, now that we're talking about drilling off every coast as well. A coat of crude oil serves as effective sun block for animals weary of increased ultraviolet radiation (the sun is, after all, the real cause of global warming). Crude oil serves to end racial discrimination among animals such as birds, since they'd all be the same color. Polar bears coated in black might learn to adapt to forest life in the lower latitudes. Friction among other water-borne animals would be significantly reduced, thus promoting their escape from predators. The list goes on and on. And we haven't even touched on the wonderful natural taste of Alaskan crude oil, likened to Kona coffee among the locals.

- greenfyre, on 06/21/2008, -2/+5It's bad enough that he is that dumb, but to announce it to the world?
- openthink, on 06/21/2008, -1/+6let's not rush to conclusions. many animals enjoy a good cup of coffee and espresso. in fact, why not dot the pipeline with starbucks every couple miles. and, we've heard, french fries are hugely popular among bear and penguins, so macdonalds franchising would be a natural boon to the eager wildlife...
- JimmySpaza, on 06/21/2008, -9/+2Too bad so many of you are skeptics and deniers. Shipwrecks create wonderful environments for all kinds of sealife. Docks and piers do the same. Controlled burns of undergrowth help sustain forests and prevent massive wildfires. A source of warmth in such climates can indeed help wildlife.
Why not be open-minded and tolerant of new ideas. It's not like the environmentalists have never cried wolf and been proven wrong.- ichbeineinrcg, on 06/21/2008, -1/+5Jimmy, he said that the pipeline would turn into a "coffee klatch." Metaphore or not, that's just retarded.

- allaboutdatiki, on 06/22/2008, -0/+5Gee, could this whole mess have been orchestrated to provide the thundering drums needed to get done what the oil companies and their minions have wanted for so long? America has woken up to the smell of *****. :)
- Newportbeachguy, on 06/22/2008, -6/+2***** the caribou, I'm broke.
survival of the fittest motha *****- PATSCRU, on 06/22/2008, -0/+2If you're broke, perhaps you should find another place to live besides Newport Beach. When your lifestyle has exceeded your means and you're willing to drastically alter an entire ecosystem to preserve that lifestyle, something isn't right.
- 919kwjc, on 06/22/2008, -1/+1I'm willing to drastically alter an ecosystem just to get a good dinner. Because I'm just a man, and I really can't alter an entire ecosystem. So grow up emotion queen and start helping solve the problem.

- DangerCollie, on 06/22/2008, -0/+1Any self-respecting caribou is going to hang out somewhere they can get free wi-fi. Because caribou are notoriously cheap, except in their choice of laptops. There they exhibit typical herd behavior, opting for MacBook Pro's.
And that little tidbit is every bit as accurate as the statement by Rep. Bachmann. - 919kwjc, on 06/22/2008, -2/+1This is how it works: liberals say something is bad and, in fact, it turns out to be good (oil pipeline and caribou). Liberals say you should change your way of life and things turn out to be worse (plastic vs. paper at the grocery store).
Liberals don't care about all this crap, they just want you to pay more money, lose your freedoms, and give government more power. It's not about helping, it's about power.
