Fat People Cause Global Warming, Higher Food Prices
latimesblogs.latimes.com — two scientists write in a letter published Friday in the medical journal Lancet that obese people are disproportionately responsible for high food prices and greenhouse gas emissions because they consume 18% more food energy due to their greater body mass -- and require increased quantities of fuel to transport themselves and the food they eat.

- jakilevy, on 05/17/2008, -4/+4fascinating article. most people are afraid of being rude, but this article really hits the point home. You should also take a look at a blog WeSeeThat :

the writer covers similar issues around obesity, politics, and the food crisis, but with a political twist. - Odenized, on 05/17/2008, -4/+4Excellent study. Does this figure-in the fact that people are genetically predisposed to eat more. I find it difficult to say they are eating more food than they should when it's in their nature to do so.

- flogistan, on 05/18/2008, -1/+5Don't forget, fat people fart alot more and their farts are more similar to cows, and this really speeds up global warming.

- blackjack75, on 05/18/2008, -1/+3Excellent strategy to fight global warming. Let's shoot all fat people. They are a much easier target. They certainly don't run as fast as our cars.
- Stevanoski, on 05/18/2008, -1/+2Fat people also cause big splashes when they do cannonballs off the high dive. This is reason enough to hate them and want them dead.
- artzoom, on 05/18/2008, -1/+1what a moron idea... An other study explains that most obese people in developed countries are poor. One of the main cause of their obesity is inherent in their lack of money to eat healthly (some veggies, meat or fish are more expensive than a bag of potatos)
- StanleyKoolPrik, on 05/18/2008, -1/+5The world would be an exponentially better place if people stopped worrying about what other people do and just focused on them-self-*****-righteous-selves.
- redcolumbine, on 05/23/2008, -0/+1Sure, obesity - erm - eats up all kinds of resources, but this is a ridiculous diversion tactic. Wasteful use of inappropriate fuels causes climate change. Obesity causes poor health, loss of independence, and death, which are reason enough to try to stem the tide.
