- bgrah449, on 08/12/2008, -4/+278Nifty system, but "hero" might be a bit lofty, yeah?
- VanD, on 08/13/2008, -4/+132I am big Kevin Rose fan as much as the next guy.
But don't label him an eco hero because he thought of and idea.
When he puts that idea into practice, then you can call him that.
It is a step in the right direction.
And this isn't a shot at Kevin, because he didn't write the article nor did he asked to be called an eco hero. - inactive, on 08/13/2008, -4/+115GAYEST. DIGG TITLE. EVER.
Circle jerk in the bonfire - phibit, on 08/12/2008, -2/+85Nice idea, but the name seriously lacks originality. iP**** is already taken.
- ErickStevenson, on 08/13/2008, -15/+97What The ***** is up with the names today? Why does everyone name anything new "i____" Is it Ipod related? WTF!
/rant - Roger, on 08/13/2008, -5/+71I have an idea: world peace!
That should be enough to get me some recognition. - themarq, on 08/13/2008, -3/+49Yeah, but this is digg. Let the ass kissing begin.
- robbh66, on 08/12/2008, -19/+65Buried for being a stupid idea. Turn off all your stuff when you leave and turn it all back on when you're there? How about just turning it all off when you're not using it and turn it back on when you are? That way it's not on all the time when you're home and not using it.
- digitalMessiah, on 08/13/2008, -1/+42You mean iPeace
- roxgod666, on 08/13/2008, -1/+29$10 hes going to mention this on diggnation
- benologist, on 08/13/2008, -0/+24Digg user Roger becomes unlikely world peace hero!!!
- PullingTeeth, on 08/13/2008, -7/+29Waits for obligatory Kevin Rose comment that will generate over 9000 diggs.
- Pucciarelli, on 08/13/2008, -0/+20$20 says Kevin complains about this picture on Diggnation.
- rossbrown, on 08/13/2008, -1/+21Hero is pretty bad, but "planet saviour" crosses the line.
- sockpuppets, on 08/13/2008, -1/+21I see your ass kissing and raise you a reacharound.
- Freya23, on 08/13/2008, -0/+14When I used to live in Europe we had a master 'switch' near the door that would turn everything off except the fridge and alarm. I don't really think that he can be considered an 'eco hero' for this.
- benologist, on 08/13/2008, -1/+15So buy an iPhone with whatever acceptable data plan and buy the "iPower" device from Apple.... then sit back and save a hundred bucks a year?
Or just turn crap off if you're not using it.
A better title woudl be "Digg's Kevin Rose unlikely to become eco hero". - inactive, on 08/13/2008, -2/+16Thats because Digg is one huge Kevin Rose Dick Suckathon.
- inactive, on 08/13/2008, -3/+16iPhuck?
- sockpuppets, on 08/13/2008, -0/+12I already own one of these, it's called "my finger on a power switch."
Seriously, what's next the iCrapper? I no longer have to decide when I need to crap, it will decide for me! - clickwir, on 08/13/2008, -1/+13ipower? I will ignore it just because of the awful name
- wonderbriefs, on 08/13/2008, -0/+11Holy *****, did I really just read that he's a hero for a concept that's not even a product? My dad was automating our wall-outlets and appliances with his big bag-phone, old 80s modems, and our Tandy Color Computer. I really don't think this ***** is cutting edge, especially just as some random talk on Diggnation.
- IDIGTHEDIGG, on 08/13/2008, -17/+28Anything with "Kevin Rose" in it is guaranteed 5000 plus diggs.
- juliandunbar11, on 08/13/2008, -0/+11*Spongebob voice* KEVIN!
- cinder, on 08/13/2008, -2/+13Ferengi Rule of Acquisition #33: It never hurts to suck up to the boss.
- inactive, on 08/13/2008, -2/+12OM NOM NOM NOM NOM (on kevin rose's ass)
- Abennobashi, on 08/13/2008, -0/+10iGeneration?
- neio, on 08/13/2008, -0/+10Well, it's not really a new concept, Bill Gates, the beastmaster's, house has the same idea with RFID chips knowing where you are and switching lights on or off based on that.
Good to see more people exploring the concept of saving energy thou. - Emachine, on 08/13/2008, -6/+15...anything but your comment. Nice try.
- tnoy, on 08/13/2008, -0/+9You can power off devices for only $1.99 a device!
- wonderbriefs, on 08/13/2008, -2/+11As someone who has some pull in marketing for different things, I really wish I could have dugg you up more than -1 to 0.
I'm so sick of the iGlut it's making me nauseous. Every next iProduct made is only going to target uninformed-America who only buys "more of the same." - AllINeed, on 08/12/2008, -17/+25Kevin Rose is my hero ;) Any guy who can actually find a use for the market of frat boys that becomes as popular as Digg gets kudos from me.
- inactive, on 08/13/2008, -0/+8Oh come on. It was a good idea the first 1000 times it was thought up. From the plug in timers my grandparents used to the X10 my parents used to the Insteon I use. He's a day late and a dollar short for planting a flag on that "idea".
What exactly is the solution, besides waving a magic hand at Apple? I've got gadgets throughout my entire house. - KloroFormd, on 08/13/2008, -0/+7"most electronics today is using power even if off."
Just like the idea that's being discussed would. It can't get the "power on/off" signal if it's not using power...
Here's a better idea: Flip the main breaker on your way out. - chubbybubba, on 08/13/2008, -2/+9Can someone please check if Kevin's pee cures cancer. Maybe even just for small cuts or minor burns?
- spokesandspools, on 08/13/2008, -2/+9i'm sorry but anyone who puts the letter 'i' preceding their products name needs to be slapped
apple got it first, use some brain power and figure out your own product name.
kevin rose- great idea, but 'iPower'? you sir, are better than that. - mozert, on 08/13/2008, -1/+8Kevin Who?
- solarweasel, on 08/13/2008, -0/+7first it was e- everything like email and emachines, then it was i- everything like ipod, iphone, and apparently ipower...
next? i predict f-
fThis, fThat, fYou - foodude, on 08/13/2008, -0/+6No, you most certainly don't.
- Natitude, on 08/13/2008, -0/+6let me explain it to you... electronics use power when it STAND BY mode, not when actually powered off. Some things may need to actually be unplugged to actually stop using power. Which is another reason why this probably wouldn't work that well.
- bgrah449, on 08/12/2008, -1/+7I think it's neat, but not without problems: The biggest, obviously, is what about family members or roommates?
Besides that, though, how many things really need to be turned on remotely? Computers, I guess; heat and A/C; but lights? Xbox? Television? Not so much. - thosemoose, on 08/13/2008, -3/+8Yeah, it's called unplugging items when not in use. Not that hard.
- se1zure, on 08/13/2008, -1/+6It is a good idea. But honestly, iPower is a terrible name, and I think that a system like this would be better designed by GE or belkin or something. While I love apple products, saving money on power won't make up for the surely $500+ pricetage
- Tyrghast, on 08/13/2008, -0/+5Have some peace, every six months for 250 bucks a pop!
- inactive, on 08/13/2008, -4/+9what's with his smug ***** smile
oh, san francisco - Travisx2, on 08/13/2008, -3/+8The Idea has merit.. if you work within reality... People, humans that is, don't remember to turn things off. and even if they do.. most electronics today is using power even if off. even if batteries fully charged... Have you ever tried unplugging everything that uses power in your house?
I have.. You can't really do it on a daily basis.. so.. for you perfect beings this will be a waste of time.. for us humans it might just fit the ticket.
Travis. - nymphetamine, on 08/13/2008, -0/+5http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r1CPKhAxPyU
- CavemanUK, on 08/13/2008, -0/+5WTF is up with people assuming the 'i' prefix came in with the iPod! iMac was first! /sarcasm
- zeblith, on 08/13/2008, -1/+6Doesn't work too well for shut-ins, though.
- tnoy, on 08/13/2008, -0/+5Plus at least one bury from me.
