Researchers are not bound by the theories they are researching. A real scientist would be just as excited to prove an existing theory is wrong as to prove it is right. We do not base our reports and research on faith of any kind, but on decades of hard science. Chimps regularly hunt, kill, and eat smaller primates... this stick usage, has been observed many times by different people (according to the article). No where does anyone go off into left field, this is just research about primates and tool usage.
